My husband has up to date miners card, 8 years experience, laid off over 2 months, has put in over 10 applications with no luck in the last 2 months. He's went as far as kopper grove, Harlan, & hazard putting in apps.

Surface mining doesn't need greenhorns. Its not enough to be able to push dirt, you need to know why and where your moving it; you need to be able to set yourself up to work your shift without a foreman having to babysit you, and leave the job set up for the next man coming on shift. These men work on million dollar machines and they must meet production. Good Luck

Ok then how the hell can a newly certified surface miner gain experience if no one will hire them so they can get experience?

I am hearing the men on night shift for xinergy on straight creek dont have their safety meeting; they are told to sign the paper that they did have the safety meeting; and they are told to work their shifts 'straight through' with no breaks and no dinner. Before you get all self righteous, let me ask you this..if your family was one payday from being homeless, what would you do?

Well obviously you have never set foot on a strip job ive seen a many of folks like you lie and tell em i can run a dozier and then proceed to set there and spin the tracks off all night. But as for the hiring I dont see it picking up to sometime after the first of the year. its to warm outside and people just arent running them heat pumps and that hurts the coal business plus the pretty much non existant permits being issued and everybody and there mom on the bullshit global warming band wagon this is what happens, a good company to watch is NHE if there laying off then its bad and from what im hearing ITS BAD

I heard a few on the mines in and around Harlan are shutting down next week. Does anyone have any information or insight as to whether or not this is true?
