Dr.Woolum, who has treated my 85 year old Aunt and her now deceased husband for many, many years. Today he refused to fill out forms to assist her in getting her a motorized chair. She recently became a amputee and will shortly lose her other leg due to serve vascular disease. She needed her primary care physician to fill these forms out. He told us that he was a surgeon, not her primary care Dr. I ask why he has for all these years treated both her and her deceased husband for every illness they have ever had. Her problem started last year (May 07) with a sore on her toe. Woolum amputated the toe and did not leave enough skin to pull over the incision and it would not heal properly. She had developed an infection on the toe before he amputated it and he left town after the surgery. She had to return to his office and was told that she could not be prescribed an antibiotic, she would have to wait until he returned to town in 3 wks. He did not check the blood flow in the leg and foot before doing the surgery. Things kept getting worst for her. We, her neices took her to Knoxville. The first thing they did was ck her for vascular disease, which has turned out to be severe. I ask you why would Woolum not help her by filling these papers out. For the past yr. she has been living with us because she has no children. My opinion is Woodum is mad because she went to another Dr. If we had not taken her to Knoxville she would not be alive today. Woolum is a scum bag. He is a sorry excuse for a Dr. I could go on about how he pretended to help my Uncle but you would be reading all day. Please be aware of this QUACK!!!

My Aunt has always been very independent and would do so much better if she could con't to be independent and do things for herself. It breaks my heart that Woolum could be so heartless and turn down this little 85 lbs. lady. This was nothing off of his back, his nurse would have filled out the forms and he would have signed them. I hope some day every wrong thing he has done unethical will starr him in the face!!!

Im just wondering if you have talked to a lawyer about this situation. From what I have read, his neglect and mistake during the removal of her toe, and the actions he took thereafter, could be considered as severe as leaving a pair of hemostats in her abdomen. Malpractice insurance covers big and little, and in my opinion, maybe you should talk to someone to see if you have a case.

We have not spoken to a lawyer. No she is not a diabetic. I am afraid at her age it would be too hard and a long drawn out process for her. I am more hurt about him turning her down for this motorized chair. She was sitting there in front of him and he could see she is an amputee. She also asked him to look at her other foot and he did not offer to do this. Yesterday, at that time she still considered him her primary care Dr. Yes, he is upset because she went to another MD, but he does not understand or wants to understand or even cares that something had to be done at the time we chose to take her to Knoxville.I could understand if she had never been to him before and just walked in off of the street and ask him to do this, but she and her husband had been patients of him for 30+ yrs.

If she would agree to see a lawyer I would have her an appt. today.

Woolum is like Rader there only concern is trying to make a little more money before they cant retire in a couple of years...you know the more they make their last couple of years the more they draw on their retirement. Do your Aunt a favor and dont take her back there go to UK or UT from now on or farther if you have to. Good luck with a lawsuit the lawyers here are like the doctors they are all in the things together and cover for one another so if you want to persue the lawsuit thing do yourself a favor and get a lawyer that isnt from here either. Just thought I would add that....

Well, well, well!! Dr. Woolum had his nurse to call my Aunt first thing this morning and apologized to her for his actions yesterday. He had his nurse to tell my Aunt that he had had a bad day and was not in the best of moods. Big surprize!! He also said to bring the papers back to him today and he would fill them out. My Aunt told her that she would not accept his apology and she would not bring the papers in for him to fill out and and furthermore she would never be back into his office again.

The tendons were exposed at the amputation site. It was as if he had taken an axe and chopped it off the same as one would chop a log.

If he bills her insurance for the visit I am going to report him for fraud. My sisters and I are considering talking to a lawyer at this point. My Aunt did not need to be talked to, or treated the way this so called doctor treated her yesterday. He had upset her to the point we were very concerned for her. He did not for one second consider what all she has already been through the past yr. He is the most uncaring, unconcerned individual I have ever encountered in my life. What goes around , comes around.

Good for your aunt for holding her ground and not accepting his apology. He has probably caught word that he could be facing somr trouble and is just trying to get out of it now. He should have not had to call an apologize to her, he is supposed to be a professional and should act like it too. If he was having such a bad day he has NO right to take it out on his patients. He should have controlled hisself professionally and not put your aunt through what he has. I hope you guys help to get all the doctors out that are just here to get paid and dont really give a rats ass about their patients... Hope you aunt is doing better.

We have started the process of transferring her medical records to another MD. We will see how cooperative he is about this. If he gives us one little problem our lawyer is waiting to start the paper work for what we will do. He thinks everybody are idiots. We will show him what idiots can do.

Dr. Woolum is very important to Bell County and PCH. He is a wonderful and caring man. He is not my Dr. but other members of my family will only go to him and value his opinion. If anything happens to me and requires surgery I do hope that he is around. We have very good Dr. here for what they can get paid after going to college for over 8 years. It is very hard to get Dr. to practice in our area due to their income. We have many people with little or no insurance. How can you expect people to come back here after being in debt for college and not be able to support their family. I appreciate the Dr. that decide to make Bell County their home. If you don't like them, then pay $80.00 everytime you make a trip to Lexington.

It is sad but true there are alot of uneducated people in Bell Cty. that does not know the differents in good medical care and bad medical care. I understand alot of them don't have insurance or the money. My Aunt and Uncle went to this man for probably 30 years and thought he was great. The day he refused to fill out papers for her Jazzy chair told me exactly what kind of Dr he is. It was not as if she just walked in off of the street asking him to do this. We had even made an appt. therefore, he knew what she was coming in for. The truth of the matter is if we had not stepped in and took her to another doctor she would not be alive today. So for those of you who chose to continue to go to this doctor that is your decision, but as for me and my family we would not let him touch our dogs!!

Are you saying everyone from Morristown is educated? I don't think you have to be educated to have medical care. I am sure that there are Doctors in every town that someone will have problems with. That is why everyone has the right to select the Doctor that is best for them.

No I am not saying everyone in Morristown is educated. I was born in Pineville Community hospital and raised most my earlier yrs there and have always worked in the medical field. There are good and bad Dr's. all over. I am not dumb either when it comes to recognitizing good medical treatment to bad or neglect and non caring treatment. I agree with you we have a choice as to who we go to but at the same time I appreciate ones advice and opinion if they have had a bad experience with a medical Dr. or anybody in the medical field. If we don't look out for ourselves or loved ones and get the right treatment and con't to be treated by these unprofessional people that are only out to get our money and or insurance then who is. We have a choice and that is why my Aunt is alive today and she will be the first to say that she is greatful that we switched her medical care.

Dr. Woolum is the best he is a very caring doctor he has taken care of me for the last 16 years I am not a stupid person Dr. Woolum delivered my son and has performed serveral surgeries on me, he is a very caring doctor and takes his time to always listen to what I have to say. I am sorry that you have had a bad experience, but I think that Dr. Woolum has done so much more good than bad for the people in Bell County and the other counties around Bell. I think that you should try to walk in his shoes for a day and see that it is not always about the money for him he is a very caring person.

I have been going to Dr. Woolum for many years and no offense to you people, but if there was a bad result with any precedure he done, it was probably due to your own neglect of the issue... Woolum has been a great doctor and a exceptional assect to Pineville Kentucky...And also to add..he is not the only doctor in the world so if your family doesn't like him, well they ALL need to quit going to him...Also i want to add..i'm gald that your not going to take you dog to him..you'll just come up with something else to blab on the internet...Get a life!!!!!

If you had any understanding of Insurance policies and procedures you would know that Dr. Woolum is not required to fill out the necessary forms for your aunt, it is the sole responsibility of your primary care physician, Dr. Woolum is solely a surgeon. Your problem lies with your lack of education regarding the laws and regulations of insurance information (HIPAA, I suggest you look this up). You are violating a federal law by presenting your aunt's medical records via the internet. I suggest you don't see a lawyer because you will be prosecuted for violating a federal law, only the patient is allowed to voice her medical conditions-not a niece. Dr. Woolum is a wonderful surgeon and just to clear up incorrect information listed above, in a recent interview Dr. Woolum proudly announced that he had been schooled for over 20 years. I know a number of people that travel over 60 miles to see Dr. Woolum because he is a fine doctor and surgeon.
