The State supports this project. The community should as well. It will help create jobs that are badly needed and I am thrilled that they are trying! Isn't it time that someone tried instead of fighting?
Problem is, the LLC they signed this agreement with isn't legally recognized by the state. Somebody didn't do their homework.

Tourism is not going to save Eastern Kentucky. It just isn't. People aren't going to come here. There are other, bigger, more interesting parks. Nobody comes here to hunt the transplanted, docile Western Elk that we brought here. Nobody is paying money into Pineville's economy for horse riding or 4-wheeler-ing. Tourists don't come to places like Pineville.
If we're going to save this area, we need a radical reversal. Coal supported this place for decades, but coal also exploits the hell out of its workers, giving them unsafe conditions, chronic diseases, and an ever-dwindling supply of jobs. In the end, all the coal money leaves Kentucky anyway. We don't get anything from it.
If we're going to save this area, we need brand new industry, and tourism just isn't going to cut it. In my opinion, replacing coal dependence with alternative fuel is the best thing for Appalachia. Build wind farms on reclaims MTR locations. Build a huge solar array atop Pine Mountain and along 25. Hell, just build a mall in Pineville - it'll create jobs and give people a place in town to spend their money, which in turn will keep people around and interested and pump up our economy.
Long and short - we need to abandon this foolhardy tourism idea. It's the idea that every podunk little town in Kentucky has had, and none of them are working.

yes bob did get it started but it died after he left and would have never been done if Mayor Rader had not worked day and night with frankfort and the developer to see this done..Pineville needs the hotel for not just the festival but for family reunions, funerals, clear creek school, salesman, their are about 35,000 cars a day pass pineville and many are looking for a hotel. I think it will be a new beginning for pineville.
Thanks Mayor

It still isn't done. Might never be. And those people looking for a hotel? They'll find all they need in Middlesboro or Barbourville at a better price.

No one has mentioned how long they think it will be before they start building the hotel. I live close by and I'd like to know. It will be nice to have a hotel and more jobs. Who knows, maybe I will be able to work there and will no longer have to travel almost 75 miles a day to and from work.

Don't get your hopes up. If you read the fine print, they still have to sell bonds to finance all this. Investors with money - the kind needed to make this work - didn't get their money by throwing it at risky deals. Plus, the mayor signed an agreement with a corporation that didn't even exist. But it looked good on the front page of the newspaper, didn't it?

she signed an agreement between the parties, that had been agreed upon, to allow the project to officially start. It is wait and see with the bonding at this point. Time will tell....she is trying. And Shetland Pony she isn't one that cares about pictures in the paper, and if you ask her she will tell you that she has been told to expect answers in 60-90 days. Nothing of this magnitude happens instantly.

The problem will be to get enough workers to run the Hotel. Nobody wants to work anymore. It took me 3 months to get someone to come work for me and all I wanted was a Gazebo built. I had a lot of promises that builders would come and they would never show up. I wanted blocks layed and new sidewalks, I called the Goodin Brothers and one came and gave me a estimate, I told him he could start anytime, never showed up, called him and he promised to come, never showed. So I finally after 3 months found a good worker.

OK, here's another good one. One of the PARTIES had no legal standing to enter into such an agreement. Unless Pineville has run out of lawyers I know somebody can explain that's state law. We got local leaders and Mike Bowling trying to strongarm a deal and nobody even checks on that? When Pineville floats a bond offering based on an invalid agreement - its called FRAUD. This isn't the usual Pineville insider deal where everybody walks away laughing. People at the federal level take that real serious. And it WILL come up.

Anybody notice how quiet this got all of a sudden? We had this big fuss over tax money, everybody getting their nose into it, gonna break ground in August. Better check the calendar, folks.

Has this thing died like the coal-fired power plant, the new fire department, and the new bus garage at Ward Chapel? These promises and big talk that don't work out are getting old. We got a better chance of Obama wearing a hardhat and going underground than we do getting some of these wild ideas to pay off. But people still fall for it.

Hey, next time I'm gonna run on the Elvis platform. Everybody that votes for me gets a Cadillac. And you'll see that before you see these schemes work.
