Waste of time. There are so many more important and meaningful issues than the flag code. Let's stop making the schools a place where mandates such as flag codes and morning prayers and all other nonsense
are required because some moonbat deems them important.

While I don't support reciting the code, I do support it being taught in the classroom. I was taught flag etiquette at a young age, when pride in your country, and all that the American flag represents was important.

Deeming it nonsense is just another example of what is lacking in this country. This issue shouldn't be reduced to just one more thing that teachers have to do.

The flag is more than just a piece of cloth.

I have to agree with you. Penny, I totally disagree with you.
I do not know what a flag code is but I do know the Pledge Of Alliance.
There is no reason why a young child should not be taught Pride in this country. Our flag is not just a piece of cloth. It stands for our people, our nation, our believes as a nation. There are Americans that are proud to display our flag and give alliance not just at schools but throughout our nation. Some continue to believe they are still in their former country and continue to try and change this country. We do not want it changed and to have a child say the pledge of alliance in school, well, that is just the way we do it here.

Anyone who is stupid enough to care that much about a piece of cloth really needs to examine where their lives went so drastically wrong. Students in american public schools are already way behind students from other first world nations in math, science, and reading, and taking time away from actual education in favor of fascist indoctrination would just make things worse. The american flag may have once been a proud icon, but today the flag stands for things such as the Patriot Act, Abu Ghraib, and Guantanamo Bay. If you think those things represent freedom and liberty then you have more problems than simple flag worship, which is sick enough to begin with. As a matter of fact, I am going to go desecrate a US flag in the name of freedom right now.

The pledge of allegiance was written by an American National Socialist, also known as a NAZI!!! Look into the history. The flag and its pledge are fascist indoctrination tools designed to make people more socialist. Further, I do want this country changed! The federal government has taken way too much control, our taxes are too high, and HUNDEREDS OF THOUSANDS of INNOCENT CIVILIANS are being killed around the world in YOUR NAME with YOUR MONEY! Killing innocent people is just how we do it here, I guess. I would be really proud if I was a psychopathic killer who loves seeing people suffer, otherwise I will remain disgusted with the actions of the federal government and the people who support it no matter what attrocities it commits. Down with National Socialism! Say no to the pledge!

question 1: have you lived anywhere other than the United States

question 2: have you worn the military uniform?

You have no idea what the price of freedom costs until you can answer both of those questions with a yes answer. By the way if you think Bush was bad how do you feel about your rights under Obama? You want to talk Socialism if the Liberal Left continue to have their way this country will be a communist state one that even Carl Marx can be proud of. I am sorry that you dont agree with war but had Bill Clinton dealt with Iraq and Afghanistan correctly we would not be there now. Before you go slamming any vet or soldier I dare you to walk in our shoes. Then you can understand why so many of us love the flag and want it protected.

Don't blame the flag for what's wrong with this country. Blame the politicians who are supposed to be representing us. They haven't got it yet. DON'T BURN THE FLAG.Get the phoney politicians out of office. Use your power, use your VOTE.

As much as I love the flag I think people should have the right to do whatever they want with it. Do I find it repulsive and wrong to disrespect the flag? Of course, but I think it would be a waste of time to fine people and put them in jail for desecrating the flag.

the pledge of allegiance was not written by a nazi, but it was modified specifically in the 50's to nationalize and raise sentiment against communism.(like the "under god bit" which was added in 52)

and finally i agree this stuff needs to be taught. as an eagle scout i learned all this stuff in scouts but i think there should be a civics class in all schools where kids can learn things like this. There is nothing wrong with national pride and knowledge and i think it makes us a better country

The article was about the flag code and your response about totally diaagreeing with me, but you have no idea what the flag code is suggests that you should not be responding to posts about which you know nothing. Not too bright are you. Probably should have spent more time learning about many subjects in school instead of repeatedly reciting the pledge of allegiance to a piece of colored fabric.

I don't agree with the idea of reciting the code. It has 67 paragraphs, 116 sentences and 2,565 words, and occupies 5 pages of single-spaced text. That's a long recitation.

It would be enough, I think, to study it (as a kid, I was in the Scouts, and we were required to do that), and, maybe, be able to pass a quiz based on its provisions. I think some of the provisions, particularly those in Sec. 4, deserve to be more widely known (Subsection 4(i) technically makes postage stamps imprinted with the flag in violation of the Code, for instance - and burning is the recommended method of disposal).

A constantly updated copy of the code is posted at the Cornell Law Library. Note that there are no penalties for violations; instead of messing up the constitution, all Congress would have to do is give the code some teeth (but, of course, that wouldn't be showy enough for political grandstanding). I also think more armchair patriots and teabaggers should take the time to read the code before decking themselves out in flag paraphernalia.

Sorry, but I am gainfully employed and do not wish to leave as I am a Democrat and am ecstatic about the current administration and the potential for a productive future. You, on the other hand, haven't a clue and can go and try as you might to memorize the flag code and continue to make even more ridiculous posts then Bruce marien, and that is going some.

Ms. Tuffles or is it Penny?

I am glad that are employed. Happy and just loving life.
Thank all of us vets for that. We are happy with our country.
We served it as well as put our families through all those years.
Our country might not be at its finest right now but we still are proud.
People as yourself might think that you will take this time and change
our countries values, our morals, and our decency. It is not going to happen.
You might laugh and think what values, morals. There are still alot of people
in this country that value this foundation of our lives. The politicians do
not represent all of us. Soon they will be voted out as you can see in yesterdays
elections. I do support this president. I did not vote for him but he is still our
President. I believe his time is running out to show the American people where he is
going to lead this country to. Job creation is failing and also with the flu vaccine.
I know the President can see that it was easier pointing the finger at someone when
you have never held that position. Now it is another story. I wish the best to all and
God Bless America.

If you don't love it... leave it.
