They just got in over their heads. Real easy to do in the restaurant business, especially when there are expensive expansions.

funny how when one bit of crime comes from PV everyone points fingers, but in any other city in the south bay no one really cares to say anything. Yes there is crime in PV even though it is the wealthiest city in the south bay, and yes PV people realize that. Get over it!

more evidence of PVE crooks who live the high life;

Head of Palos Verdes-based company arrested in New Orleans fraud case - Sept 18th '09 LA Times
Louisiana State Police arrested the head of a Palos Verdes-based disaster recovery company Thursday on suspicion of stealing more than $320,000 from victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Steve Slepcevic, the 41-year old founder and chief executive officer of Paramount Disaster Recovery Inc., evaded authorities for days before arriving at St. Tammany Parish courthouse in a white 7 Series BMW to turn himself in, said Eric Adams, senior trooper with the Louisiana State Police

The three are accused of conspiring to use forged checks to steal insurance proceeds from hurricane victims, according to warrants and an affidavit filed in early September. Slepcevic is also accused of four counts of money laundering, the court records say.
Property records show Slepcevic purchased a $1.6-million home in Redondo Beach six months after Hurricane Katrina.

The arrests come two months after a Times investigation found that Paramount had left a trail of fraud complaints, lawsuits and government investigations from Mississippi to California over the last decade. Slepcevic and his company have eluded authorities thanks to lackluster enforcement and the loose web of state regulations that govern roving insurance adjusters and contractors known as storm chasers, the investigation found.

In California, the Contractors State License Board has referred three cases to the attorney general, which will file a complaint seeking revocation of Paramount's license in the coming weeks, said Deputy Atty. Gen. Jim Ledakis.

The attorney general's office is also seeking $170,000 for a 2007 settlement between Paramount and the California Department of Insurance, which accused Slepcevic, Todd and another Paramount employee of falsely representing themselves as public adjusters to victims of the Angora fire in South Lake Tahoe. Since the settlement, the insurance department has received five more complaints but determined that it did not have jurisdiction to investigate them.

Over their heads, so they had to steal and cheat and lie then run? I hope they are caught and made an example of. No excuses!

I own a production facility a few blocks west of the Club Sushi Hollywood location, a huge space that sat unoccupied years after it was constructed. Privately, locals surmised that if large corporate chains wouldn't touch place, how much more for a small, independent. Lo and behold, Club Sushi Hollywood trumpeted a "coming soon" sign that was up for a year. And when it finally opened, the smell of crash and burn overwhelmed whatever raw seafood was in there. This place never had a chance and I'm sure it bled red the minute they signed the lease.

A definite case of in over their heads ... and theivery.

the Alens sold more shares of stock to investors than they had. they never paid rent in Hollywood. they built a vanilla restaurant. they overpriced the menue. they pocketed all the proceeds as well as the investors money. they stoped paying rent in Hermosa and hosed all of their employees. landlords got the shaft big time. Alens probably have $2mil in cash in a hefty bag. crooks!

If you went to Club Sushi for the food you must not have a car. It's the atmosphere, and the energy and fun that we whiteys went there for. Perhaps you would appreciate Gardena more, with its true Japanese chefs?
I love a good south bay scandal such as Sharkeez "accidental" fire. These restaurants/bars seem to stay open for a little bit while they are hot, cool off, close up, redecorate, and open up again as something new and hot for 10 minutes. It is the life cycle here: Point 705/Sapphire-Chakra-12 & Highland-Harry O's/Upper Manhattan-Chillers/Lattitudes- Harbor Drive and whatever else that place has been-Upper Deck/the Pitcher House-The Pitcher House/St. Rocke- and on and on and on ad nauseum...who will Club Sushi be next?? I wish I could find a financial backer, I have LOTS of ideas!

Just got a tip from a quasi-reliable source...they'll be sitting courtside at the next Clippers game. Probably the best place to hide in LA.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Sagittarius

There's work to be done. Even though it might seem overwhelming, there's a lot to be gained from doing Level One, or routine physical tasks. When your body is preoccupied and very little mental input is required, your mind is free to roam. Do one thing at a time, and you're assured of complete success in all your projects and undertakings today. Your health is not as good as it could be, at the moment. Consider a cleansing diet.
