I'd hate to see people get frightened half to death when every T.V., radio and possibly the internet, goes down on Weds afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

This test may take up to 3 and a half minutes. MUCH longer than what we are accustomed to with the monthly "This is a test..." alerts that we almost take for granted now.

So be forewarned.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more attention brought to this as well. The government conspiracy theorists should be all over this like white on rice.. Although I'm not much of an alarmist, I've read a few blogs online about it.

For one thing, people aren't pleased with "one" man having control over ALL media outlets. And supposedly, Prez Obama has given the reigns to an outsider of sorts. Cant' remember who this gentleman is right off hand, but I'll try to Google and post it for you all. Stories online stated that this man is really quite a mystery as far as military background, media attention, biographical info, etc.

Secondly, what about emergency 911 calls during this time. No one can give an adequate answer for what all this 3 1/2 minute "test" is going to actually affect.

Thirdly, many are suspicious as to why they government has decided to allow this "test" to be conducted at 2:00 p.m. EST, as opposed to perhaps a middle of the night a.m. slot.

Lastly, rumors are looming as to why this "test" going to take 3 1/2 minutes and why ALL modes of communication will be effected. Supposedly it will interrupt signals to all radio, T.V., cell phones, etc. More alarmists are saying that it's suspicious that the asteroid is coming our way tomorrow evening and will take hours to miraculously "miss Earth", etc. So they theorize that the meteor warning will go out during this "test".

Oh, and by the way. This is going to be a NATIONWIDE test. Not one of those required monthly random interruptions that we are so used to that we take for granted now. Never has this been done before on such a large scale. At 2:OO p.m. our time, the rest of the USA will also be in "test" mode, for anyone who wasn't aware of that yet....

iƧ:; FEMA
Dear Partner,
As part of our nation's ongoing efforts to strengthen our resilience against all hazards, the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), in
close coordination with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), will conduct
the first ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System on Wednesday, November 9, at 2:00
p.m. EST. The test will occur simultaneously across the United States and the U.S. territories and
will last approximately 30 seconds, after which regular programming will resume. The test will
appear on all broadcast radio and television stations, cable television systems, satellite radio and
television systems, and wireline video service systems. The test will not involve landline or mobile
phones or other infrastructure such as power grids.

The FCC, NOAA and the FCC. Hmmmm. Oh well, like I said, I'm not an alarmist, but I will admit that I don't trust "Uncle S"...

Glad to know that cell phones and 911 communications won't be involved.

I just talked to family out of state, they knew nothing about the "test" yet. Why is this not being put out there more effectively? Maybe it won't go for 3 1/2 minutes like they have planned. If it doesn't, than many people won't even notice it more than likely...

Guess we'll have our curiosity supressed sometime around 2:05 p.m. that day.. Be it truth OR fiction that we're fed..

The "active" portion of the test will be 30 +- 3 seconds subject to satellite uplink/downlink signal delay across the geographic test area.

Emergency Alert System National Test
November 9, 2011, 2 p.m.(EST)

The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place on November 9, 2011 at 2 p.m.(Eastern Standard Time).

Reminder: Stations are prohibited from broadcasting the EAS tones or attention signal except during actual EAS activations, including the Nationwide EAS Test on November 9th and other EAS tests. Broadcasting the tones or signal during news stories or other programming is a violation of the FCCs rules, and could pose a public danger because rebroadcast of the tones could trigger a false alert from EAS equipment that picks up such a rebroadcast. Please see this FCC Public Notice for further information.

Update, November 3 at 11:20 a.m.: NAB has confirmed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission that the nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System has been shortened to approximately 60 seconds. Please update your communications to reflect this change. Please consult this FCC Public Notice for further information, and please note that the FCC Nationwide EAS Test Handbook linked below has been revised as of November 3rd to reflect this change. NAB will provide more information to members as it becomes available.

All radio and television stations must participate in the EAS Test.

Honey, we're not going to implode on Dec 21, 2012. I'll look for something I posted on another thread in here and post it for you. It's too long to re-write.

Not to worry, we're gonna make it!! It may be a different 'time' than what we're used to, but the world will still be turning..
