I've considered from time to time moving from
the city crowded with bumper to bumper freeways,
the recurring smog (even with more expensive gasoline and required car smog devices and testing), outlandish home prices averaging over 500,000 dollars, rentals that are approaching 2,000 for a 2 bedroom, annual fires that sometimes destroy 2,000 homes spread all over the area, flooding, and the impersonal nature of the lifestyle.
Then I think of those winters back East, hot humid summers, and towns that resemble the towns along route 66.
do NOT do it

Move further north. The taxes in Pine Bush pushed us out of the area. taxes outside of town are $8,000 or more for a 2 acre lot. that is with well and septic and no garbage pick up besides.
Try further north, you won't be sorry. Gilbertsville or Morris school disticts(otsego county) are good ones, much smaller than PB as well.
Taxes will run you about 75% LESS as well

Move to Pine Bush area. Just make sure you buy a house in Ulster county. The village of PB is in orange county - high taxes. Ulster county only outside of village.

If you think that we don't have high taxes here think again. Pine Bush taxes are very high, its one of the resons that we are thinking of moving after living here all our lives. Pine Bush schools are going down the tubes very fast. The gangs and the kind of people that are coming up from the city have change this little country town in a big way and its not good. Look some more you will find a better place to live. Good luck

I wouldn't live in Pine Bush if you gave me a mansion for nothing! The taxes are pushing the people who lived there all thier lives out onto the street and town hall don't seem to care at all. Pine Bush is trying to be an upscale ritzy area at the expense of it's long time residents. Listen to Marty above, skip this money pit with all it's corruption and find a better place.

And yes, I live in Pine Bush, but not for very long.

I don't see why people are calling this an upscale town when the town is so friendly to the off grid types.

This man has been living with no power, water or septic and the town officials are aware he is dumping his waste openly on his property and the officials do nothing. Yep, yep, homesteaders and off gridders welcomed. Bring your composting toilet.

So is their a area of this town just for off gridders? That sound interesting to me.
