i was incarcerated for 4 years. there are a lots of things that go on at the different ADC facilities,Larry Norris knows about it, but nothing is never done. It is the same with the Dept.of Comm.Corr., when you go to report, you are treated like s--t. The people on the parole board need to pop-up, so they can see what is going on.
The whole ADC IS CORRUPT.

i was incacerated for a few years in ADC. The whole prison system in Arkansas is currupt. They ignore are reports made by inmates. I walked into the prison system and came out partially paralyzed due to the prison not responding to my medical needs. Something needs to be done about the way the Arkansas Department of Corrections is being ran. Larry Norris is not doing his job.

Lawsuits, lawsuits everywhere!
Fact is that inmates in the Arkansas Deparment of Corrections can file a lawsuit (free of charge) against anyone.
Recently I read where an inmate filed a law suit because his religion required him to have each of his 3 meals blessed by a special priest, which would cost the state millions of dollars per year. A a result of a lawsuit, the ADC had to start making special meals for him that was packaged, processed and blessed by a priest. Again, who pays for this crap. TAXPAYERS!!
So if this particular inmate had been so almighty religious before he did the crime and was sent to prison for MANY years, then he would not have this meal problem. Since when does inmates mistakes that end them up behind bars need to be forced onto the taxpayers. I don't know about anyone else, but I could care less if his meals are blessed or not. Give him 3 hots and a cot and a book but that is all.. Prison should not be extras and frills. Since when is it the Burger King where you can have it your way???

It is true that people who are convicted of crimes deserve incarceration as they are sentenced to. Further, there are no civil rights that entitle you to TV, ciggarettes, and junk food. What people are entitled to is to expect that abuse will not come at the hands of people who are the guardians of our system, reliable basic medical care, and nutrititous food. If the abuse that is alleged in this law suit should prove to be founded then corrective measures need to be taken. After all do we really want our legal system to be as corrupt or harsh as many countries? It is just a small step from infringement from there to lose of our basic civil rights.

I am a former ADC correctional officer and what most people do not get to hear about is how these inmates come to get treated like this in the facility. They do not tell you that inmates jack off to female officers or that inmates spit, curse or throw fesces on the officers. Alls anyone cares to hear about is how inhumane these inmates are getting treated. I have this to say, they weren't put in there because they sat on the front pew at church every Sunday, they deserve what they get.

Some of the same people who claim to dedicate their lives to crime and punishment are those who do the most crime!!! Look at history...DUH!! Correction officers are suppose to be trained in such a way that they are competent and know how to deal with "troublesome or disturbed" inmates. Excessive force should be used when necessary, not when they "feel" like it. Who are YOU to judge ANYONE and say who deserves WHAT, T. Van Duren?! I've never been arrested or anything of such, but I can tell you, if you can't handle the job then you don't need to be in the profession. Maybe that's why you're not!
Prisons and jails are suppose to be institutions of rehabilitation. ADC is so far from this!! Only a select few come out rehabilitated and I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the ADC!!!

And for you TIRED of READING CRAP.... taxpayers pay for waaaaaaaaaaay more CRAP than the good of what ADC is SUPPOSE to be doing. Educate yourselves on the issues of the world and THEN speak on them.

I no longer work at the ADC for the reasons that Interested said. I could handle my job, but it were the other "corrupt blue suits" that put an end to my job. I would not "put out" so they put me out. I am not saying that all those inmates deserve to be treated that way. I am saying that the ones that come in and do not give respect should not be given any. I do not believe that an inmate that is in there for lack of child support should be treated the same as an inmate that is in there for murder. I have ran into several inmates that were under my supervision in the ADC and I can tell you that they were some of the few that gave respect and therefore I was obliged to give it back. I show no favoratism, but if you want to act like an animal, then so should you be treated.

Lets look at Sherrif Joe in Arizona... now there is a man who knows HOW to run corrections.
I think that IF all jails were run like the facilities under Sherrif Joe, then there would be less crimes going on. I am particularly impressed that there are different programs available for the inmates and that most of those who actually use them DON'T return to the system.
Do the crime get the time...no frills, no tv, no cigarettes or perks of any kind. It's jail and you aren't supposed to like it...therefore you have an incentive to NOT go back.

To you Interested!!

Obvously you were not "Interested" enough to read what this topic comment section was about. DUH.. Inmates filing lawsuit in prison..
How about you take a second look at the topic before you mouth off about other ways the state waste tax payers money??
THAT IS A WHOLE OTHER TOPIC of conversation.
As far as your comments to Tammy.. Obviously you have never been involved in law enforcment or corrections and do not have a clue about the real world. So go back and crawl under that rock that you left just long enough to type your rude comments..

Stick to the topic. Who cares if you don't agree with what anyone else's comments are??

Tell ya what Interested, the ADC likes people like you and would probably be more than willing to add you to the roster, because you are totally clueless about what really goes on in there. You can get pissed at one of them, tell em to shut up, and then they can sue you for whatever they decide to lie about and see how you like it. Not all cases are crap, but the bigger part of them are. I personally know an officer that got sued for enforcing policy on an intake inmate by making him get his nappy hair cut. Did you like paying for that lawsuit? No? Well tough, cause you did!!!!

If you had treated those inmates the right way to begin with they wouldn't have any reason to do these things to you. You probable got what you deserved! They're human too!!!!!

Tammy is correct in her comments about the inmates pissing on the officers and other rude things they are allowed to do, but I have lived in this little shit hole about 1/2 mile from ADC my entire life. I have had a family member sued by an inmate for knocking the shit out of him after the inmated pissed on him. His family lost everthing they owned to pay this sorry piece of shit for pissing on HIM! But, this abuse between state employees and inmates is older than time. We need to screen the officers better because some of the "officials" are as sick as the inmates. This woman obviously committed a crime, served her time and had worked her way up to trustee, so now some shit hole thinks he can bully her into sex or she looses her status! I can not beleive that any WOMAN in today's society doesn't think this is as wrong as it gets. MEN have been taking advantage of woman FOREVER!

John Caldwell #090188, in the custody of the State of Arkansas, has suffered from an excruciatingly painful and bleeding bilateral hernia for over a year. In constant pain. Approval for outside expert originally denied. Second request has not been answered for over ten months. The delay and/or denial of appropriate medical treatment is not part of his sentence.

My son is incarceraed at Brickeys Unit and also has medical issues. I finally got some help for him by calling the proper personnel. He can't do this by himself because, I found out, through some privy information, that most of the grievances they file are thrown away. You can help your loved one and you don't have to hire a lawyer. You just have to reach the right person like I did. Don't sit back and listen to your loved one's cry for help! YOU are the only one who can help him. The corrupt conditions are still going on at Brickeys, but at least my son and I now have a voice. I now have more information on "rights of prisoner act." Maybe I can help someone help the person they love.

Granted I am sure that there are plenty of true grievances that should be looked at, but once upon a time when you were convicted and sent to prison you lost your rights! You were sent there to be punished, not to sit on your duffs watching cable tv and filing frivilous grievances. I am sick to death of convicted felons,(and you know as well as I do that most are there because they should be there), sit there and cry poor me. What about the people they commited the crimes against? They have no rights anymore? The people that have been convicted should just shut up and do their time and learn from past mistakes. Not sit around and cry and whine and file frivilous lawsuits at OUR expense just because they can and do shake the rest of us down from prison! Take the prison system back to the old days where you are sent there to be punished and leave it at that. You dont deserve any special priviledges, you are NOT intitled!

Hate to inform you CAT, but this is 2008 not 1810, and yes, inmates do deserve priviledges. Read your laws and listen to Congress. Everyone and anyone out there who needs help for their incarcerated husband, boyfriend, son, or whomever, just know that whatever their needs are can be achieved by speaking to the right person.

Thank you for reading this.
I have heard nothing good about Brickeys. The ADC administration does not know that all their employee's in that unit are corrupt. Even the one's who kiss adm. ass. They do what they want to and draw a paycheck!! I wish Larry Norris could "sneak up" on their ass on day and just see for himself what goes on. He thinks those wardens actually rule that prison, but he is way wrong; it is run by old black inmates that have been there forever and are not going anywhere. Proof of matter is that all "lifers" were suppose to be moved last year because Brickeys has no max. fence, but they moved a few and left the chosen one's who refused to be moved. Proven fact that the old lifers get what they want. See, the employee's don't actually do the work, but they have an inmate to do their job, and proven fact is that inmate gets rewarded in return. There has been numerous white girls fired from there for getting it on with inmates and black girls don't even get a chance to explain, they're gone in an instant!

white or black, you're out of your friggin' mind for gettin' it on with them anyway. they are already in there for doing something they shouldn't have and women are stupid enough to have sex with these inmates. if they are that stupid, then they oughta be locked up too.
