Hello--I served in the Marines with both Solomon (Sonny) E. Thompson and Claude C. Kasiah. They're both from your town and they both died together on June 18, 1969--one trying to save the other. I would like to make contact with any of their family or friends.

Thank you,
Jay Williams

Nobody knows these guys? Are you kidding? They lived in Pine Bluff and both graduated in 1969. They ended up, only by great coincidence, in the very same squad of Echo Co. Sec. Bat. Fourth Marines in Viet Nam. They both arrived a week apart and then almost immediately were in hand-to-hand combat with an overwhelming NVA force on Feb 25, 1969. Less than four months after that, after seeing more action, they died together--one, the black Marine, trying to save his white friend, his "hommie", even though they had explained to me that they couldn't have been friends at home. I don't see how your community can so easily dismiss these boys from your memory--or at least from your interest. There has to be something seriously wrong with Pine Bluff!

. I was in Claude's class in White Hall High School (suburb of Pine Bluff. I definitely remember & still think about Claude often. He was engaged to another girl in our class, Dianne Hopper, who I'm sure loved him very much this site is difficult to respond on which may be the reason you have not rec'd a response from anyone - but Pine Bluff is weird - White Hall was better.
