My husband and I are relocating to Pine Bluff in the next couple of months. I have been doing some internet research on Pine Bluff lately and am curious about a couple of things. First of all I want to put a couple of things out there. My husband is originally from Arkansas (about an hour South of Pine Bluff) and I am originally from Chicago. We currently live in Omaha, NE. I have only visited Arkansas twice and have not been to Pine Bluff. What I did like about Arkansas is that it seemed to be laid back and for the most part the people were very friendly.
I have read a few positive things about Pine Bluff, but the majority of the things I have read are negative. The negatives are mainly about the crime. In a couple forums on this site I seen Pine Bluff nick-named "Little Chicago." If that's the case, I guess I'm not that bothered by that since I lived in the "Chi" for 16 years. I've also seen other forums saying to bring your gun and bullet-proof vest, but this seems a bit over-exagerated to me.
I guess I'm just wondering is this really a terrible place to live?

That was me that referred to Pine Bluff as " Little Chicago " . I've lived here most of my life. All but 7 years of 46. This town is a toilet. It's ridden with violent crime , thefts, rapes , racism , you name it, it happens in Pine Bluff and it happens often. Pine Bluff is a dirty and extremely dangerous city. If you don't know Pine Bluff , take the advice of someone who does. DON'T move to Pine Bluff. Look at Sheridan , 25 miles west of Pine Bluff. Star City, Monticello , Redfield or Jefferson maybe. But not Pine Bluff.

If you do , and I mean no disrespect , you're foolish. Do the research on Pine Dump.

Arkansas in general is about 20 years behind the rest of the US.

Southeast Ark is filled with a variable plethora of dimwits black & white.

Sheridan isnt any better it is Pedophile County, White Hall is over ran with more dope than Pine Bluff.

Pick your poison. I retuned to Arkansas from NV, it(ARKANSAS) is a sh!t hole.

Pine Bluff used to be a beautiful town, now it looks like a war zone. Unless you are going to invest in a 300,000 dollar home your in for a surprize. What hasn't been burned down (and some of the burned out homes sit there for 3 or 4 years before they are torn down)the rest have just been ravished. Parking at the front door, no grass, only ruts from pulling to the door when it's raining. Gargage cans left at curb, mattress and broken sofas left at curb for weeks, bands of juveniles roam the streets night and day.

I ran out of room, when you shop in Pine Bluff most who wait on you are rude and disinterested in you business, try going to a drive in a getting you order right. I do my weekly cleanup of my yard, beer bottles, whiskey bottles, fast food boxes and wrappers, the nastyiest towns I have ever seen. Now just because you by a 300,000 dollar home dosen't meen your neighbor won't park at the door. We have several neighborhoods that used to be upscale that now look like projects.

In the news today :
Pine Bluff man is shot at carwash after refusing to give up his shoes to strong arm robber. This was around 2:00 PM Monday, daylight , traffic driving by , other carwash patrons present.
Recently in the news :
Elderly womans assault caught on churches security camera.
Things like this are an everyday occurrence in Pine Dump ( as doublewide refers to it ). The hell of it is, a lot of the actual crimes in Pine Bluff don't make the news. If people knew everything that goes on here , there'd be nobody left but the thugs and bangers.
Little Chicago , Pine Dump , The Cesspool of America....use your imagination. They all fit this place.
And Amberfive is correct, the employees of the fast food chains here couldn't care less if you and yours starved to death. If you come in , they have to work for a living. And never...never...ever complain about your order and send it back for correction..........the thought of what is done to an order grosses me out.
I was in General Dollar recently when a group of youths came in as I was waiting to check out. Maybe 6 of them. Their actions gave them away ...to me anyway. As soon as they entered..they spread out thru the store as a car sat outside near the door. Moments later they all ran back out each lugging clothes , household goods , diapers, etc..Everyone piled into to the waiting car and off they went. Broad daylight...other "paying " customers in the store and this pack of monkeys couldn't have cared less. No fear of the authorities , witness '....it's everyday.

In a nutshell SCREW Arkansas,

Cant drink the water due to years of unchallenged methamphetamine production.

All the "Peter Files" left PB for Sheridan and between with dope cooks.

Sheridan Police in news today for stealing much like PB police and Jeff Co judges.

New story ever other month, about SEARK corruption.

I worked a job out in Sheridan most of the Billies always came to the sight drunk or hungover or just complain about heat or no ice.

Then wonder why Mexicans are taking over.

I don't know DW , if it was between having my sack fondeled by a bonerfiler or being shot in the head cause I looked at a banger the wrong way....I'd tell the filer to talk dirty to me or something.
I'd take Sheridan anyday over the anus of the US.

Think Gary, IN. I grew up about 30 minutes south of Gary and moved to Arkansas about 7 years ago. We moved to Arkansas for a job my wife got in Pine Bluff. It was worth it for us to live in Little Rock for the first year and for her to make the daily 1 1/2 hour commute just so we didn't have to live in P.B. We now live in Sheridan and couldn't be happier with the community. Sheridan has the best schools in the State, crime is non-existent and the people couldn't be nicer. If not Sheridan, try and pick another community in the area. Nutshell, do not live in Pine Bluff.

no one on here has anything positive to say? That's pretty bad! I am planning on going down there in the next few weeks, so I guess I will see for myself how terrible it is! Our other choices are to move to the Chicago area or Dallas, TX. Maybe those will be better choices!

I live in White Hall but work in Pine Bluff. I have to agree that most of Pine Bluff is not safe but everyone should be aware of their surroundings no matter where they live. I enjoy living in White Hall and enjoyed living in Sheridan. However, I did not like Little Rock but there is plenty to do there. I would just do a lot of research on many place, come look at the towns, visit soem of the businesses, etc. I wish you the best in wherever you decide to move.

Can you tell me if it is difficult to find a job in Pine Bluff?

I don't know if there's anywhere in Pine Bluff you'd want to work. The city is drying up, and all the good jobs are leaving or are already gone. Probably 15 years ago or more (when things weren't this bad), Pine Bluff was voted one of the worst places to live in the US. Seriously, don't move there. However, I graduated from Sheridan High School, which is a great school system, and generally have good things to say about Sheridan. It's like any other small town and is a little backward, but the people are basically nice and friendly. One thing I'll tell you is that, particularly if you are from a larger metropolitan area and are used to a longer commute, you might want to consider living outside Pine Bluff (even as far as Little Rock, which has some very nice neighborhoods and much to do). I would say be sure to visit surrounding towns when you're in the area, but I think you'll discover when you visit Pine Bluff that it really is as bad as they say! It's a dump, and I wouldn't go out to eat or anything in Pine Bluff when I lived only 20 minutes away. Preferred to take the 40-minute drive to Little Rock.

I think you'll see that the term "Little Chicago" is not fitting. Basically, it's probably like "Little Detroit" -- all the bad things about Chicago without any of the charm.

I sincerely hope you do not move to Pine Bluff, but I do encourage you to check out surrounding areas.

Should you visit PB to prospect it as a new home, be warned ! Do your survey during the daylight hours and even then keep your guard up and your doors locked. If you're white, don't stop at convenience stores unless you see the same race patronizing there. You won't find many. If you stay for the night , chose a motel at Whitehall off hwy 270. You're safe there. Don't try to save a dollar and stay in one of Pine Bluff's sleazey dumps. You'll hear loud bumping crap music , fights , gunshots , etc., all night, not to mention you'll be a target to get " ganked ".( strong arm robbery )
We welcome newcomers but the longtime residents of Pine Bluff want you to be forewarned about this place. It's not as nice as the PB Chamber of Commerce paints it. Just being truthful. Good Luck in your quest.
Little Chicago , Little Detroit, Little South Bronx...call it what you will.....
And, as for jobs.....there are jobs here. But you can expect pay below the national average and you'll work next to whining , lazy , incompetent morons. The good jobs are either gone or filled via the " brother in law " system.
Sad but true.

Don't stop at convenience stores if I'm white? Why? Are you afraid of black people? I've been waiting for this to come out on this post simply because I believed there are racial tensions in Pine Bluff simply from the posts I have read. Why is White Hall so safe? Because all the white people live there?
So you know, I am white. But I am definitely not a racist and I belive telling me not to stop at convenience stores unless white people are there is a racist comment. Being from the North, I had a feeling racism is sadly common in Arkansas.
