Realistically, doesn't necessarily mean that any guards told anybody anything, since inmates have access to the NewsPaper, TV.... Yes, and a public trial doesn't mean anything. It's still not the Officer's jobs to run their mouths. The only way inmates get newspapers is if they order them through their catalogs...not many can afford them. They can watch tv also...but NOT ALL CASES are on television. This was something that happened in a local jail, so I am sure it didn't get much airtime until the Officers said something.

It may not be the same exact crime, however, when those Officers thought they were above the law by telling those other jailbirds about what this guy did, they were just as bad as someone else who has broken the law. This doesn't teach criminals ANYTHING except that Police Officers can get away with things because of their job title. It is very insulting to Officers who actually care about their job and want to teach inmates about being a respectful, law-abiding citizens.

First off, re-read the article and you will se that the guards told the other imamates that he was alleged of raping the little girl. This means that he hadn’t been found guilty yet. Maybe you haven’t heard about innocent until proven guilty? So what if in this case the man was found innocent and yet the guards were already treating him as guilty? Let’s expand further? So say it is ok for the guards to have a child rapist beaten, what about other rapist? What about murders or people who do assault? Should all those people be beating too? Where do we draw the line? Somewhere between rapist and traffic violator I would imagine? You see, here is the problem. The job of the guard is to protect the public from inmates and protect inmates from each other. It is not there jobs to be judge and executioner. That is the job of the courts.

Trepidation...you are 100% correct. The job of an OFFICER is to protect the public from inmates and to protect the inmates from one another. You are also correct in saying the Officers told the other jailbirds that the man had ALLEGEDLY raped this little girl. ALLEGED means they think...not that has proved he was guilty or innocent of the crime. I still hope the Officers are found guilty and lose their jobs. Perhaps they should have done their job correctly!

I honestly don't give a crap what anyone thinks about me. I do my job, and I do it well. I take pride in the work that I do. I treat EVERYONE at work, including the inmates, as people. I am not judgmental and I do not treat them like animals. Therefore, they treat me with respect. Perhaps you are the suck a**...

I do your job too and it is not my job to "teach inmates about being a respectful, law-abiding citizens", there are programs for inmates that need that. I don't doubt the the officers MAY have used bad judgement however; in mine and a lot of others opinions, the dirt bag got what he deserved.

No, but it IS your job to model good, law abiding behavior to citizens as a Corrections Officer. Do you think inmates learn anything when they see Officers disobeying the laws and getting away with it? No, they do not. Yes, there are programs such as "Cage Your Rage" and "Nurturing Fathers" programs that do teach prisoners CERTAIN areas of education. However, it was NOT the Officers jobs to run their mouths and get someone seriously injured.

I never said I didn't model good, law abiding behavior..I think everyone knows that it is not the officers job to "run their mouths" however; it does make a lot of people happy to see that a dirt bag rapist got some sweet justice..........Some people just don't care whats always right.

Time to call in the feds on our entire justice system her in Livingston county. There needs to be a federal review of these people who are abusing their power of authority. These "officers" had no right to allow this to happen, and even baited the situation. These people are rotten, and all I can do about it myself is to remember in November.
