Hi I was just looking on the internet and ran across this site. Well the other day I was going threw my grandmothers things and found this what looks like a patch and it reads 43 Petty's Pack Rays does anyone know what I am talking about? I know it is older then I am.
There was a Ray's Kingburger in Kingsport TN and Richard Petty visited it often. I think they were one of his early corporate sponsors or something.

I remember going thru Mt Airy sometime in 1981 or 1982 and eating at Ray's Restarant. I remember driving just down the road a truck stop. I went thru Mt. Airy a few years ago expecting to stop and eat but the restaurant was no longer there and also remembering the truck stop not there. I guess things never stay the same. It was a good stopping area when my family was driving from NC to West Virginia.

I drove thru Mt. Airy today and saw the building with the origianal Ray's logo on it. Didn't think it was open though as the roadside sign was blank. Had a Bentley parked in the parking lot. Have looked online for a website but couldn't find one.

I worked at the Kernersville store. Mr. Frye was the manager. Would like to see some of the old commercials. They actually made a commercial in the store I worked at in Kernersville'
Still run in to some of older women that worked there. had to be 1979 I loved that job.

We were in Mt. Airy this afternoon and planned to have lunch at Goober's 52 which has been our go to spot in Mt. Airy for about 10 years. We found it was now (once again) Ray's. Ray's is open and we had a great lunch there. I think the menu is a blend of Ray's Kingburger menu and Goober's menu. Those of you who are fortunate enough to have been to the original Ray's and to Goober's will need to confirm.

My wife and I had a shrimp basket and an oyster basket. Both excellent with delicious cocktail sauce and tarter sauce. Our son had a thin burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, buttermilk fried bacon and sauce (a flavored mayo)- what a great looking and tasty burger.

Are there any Ray's Kingburgers left? If so, where are they located? I remember eating at the ones in Wytheville, Marion and Abingdon. I haven't ate at one since these stores closed. I loved their food and miss them very much!

The only one I'm aware of is in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. They don't seem to have a website.

By chance would anyone know where a peddle car that was painted like Richard Petty's car that was used in a Rays Commercial might be? Also looking for a copy of the commercial where the peddle car was used in a commercial for Rays Hamburger the kind said, "If its good enough for Richard Petty its good enough for me" Yes I'm the kid in the commercial. Made a big $25 doing that. They wanted $25 for a copy of the commercial and my mom did not buy it. The car was given away as a promotion. My mom has always regretted not buying that and I thought it would be a nice christmas present to givee her. Thanks Brent [email protected]

Yea, I worked my first job at Ray's Kingburger #1
in Mount Airy,NC. The manager was a great guy, Ken Holdaway. I lived beside of Clyde Hiatt, VP of Ray's Kingburgers. I travelled with Clyde Hiatt to many Kingburger grand openings where my job was to give away helium ballons. Clyde, Ricky, and all the Hiatt's are wonderful people and the Kingburger was a great job. I miss those days and those people.
I have that same patch. I got it with a kids meal.

We drove past the Mt. Airy Ray's in late September. Building was dark and no cars in lot. Appeared to be out of business.

I remember going to Ray's on Williamson Rd. in Roanoke Va. to get Richard Petty's autograph. "SIGN MINE NEXT! SIGN MINE NEXT, MR. PETTY!", I yelled from the back of the pack of a hundred or so of we excited kids. I'm probably the first fan ever to try the poor man's patience lol

I live here in Mt. Airy. My dad worked for Ray; we also went to church together. He passed away earlier this year. His family goes to church with us. Moses retires in 2016. One of Moses's daughters is married to the Stokes Co. Assistant District Attorney, his son is a lieutenant in the Navy, one daughter is a radiologist, and another is a stay at home mom and wife.

I know the family very well. Ray's grandkids, who are Moses's kids, have all babysat me. I'd always get free drinks at Ray's Starlight. Ray named Sweet Sue's after Susan, his daughter. I've been to his house when he was alive. He was always a pleasant person to be around.

If you know the family, could you ask them if they have any of the old commercials? I was in one and my mom regrets not getting a copy, and would love to get her hands on one of me. I was in a peddle car and drove up and said "If it's good enough for Richard Petty, it's good enough for me."
