Would like to know what the Bledsoe County community thinks about the ambulance service and the resent departure of some of Bledsoe Counties best EMT's and Paramedics to work in other counties. Why?

I have to say, I personally do not depend on any of the emergency services here. It has failed me before, so I go to surrounding hospitals if need be and so do my children. If I need an ambulance, my husband or family takes me. I am sure they are good people working with the ambulance services, but once bitten twice shy, you know?

martini, what about if your house was on fire? or say ur husband or family was in a car accident? would u not depend on the emergency services of bledsoe to come help you? or would u rather have ur house burnt, or family not receive any medical attention that they needed?

You've got a good point. Do you know if EMS runs BLS or ALS trucks or both? Is our EMS locally owned or contracted from another entity? Do we have sub-stations around our county for EMS, or all trucks in one central location? Thank goodness I've never been in a situation where an ambulance was needed, but if so I would hope it would be available, regardless of my whereabouts. How many unit's do we have? Myself, like a lot of other folks seek medical treatment in surrounding counties. If it were an emergency we wouldn't have a choice as to what medical facility we were taken to by EMS because of different levels of trauma. Wouldn't you want your loved one to receive the best care possible in case of an emergency?

All trucks are ALS, It is locally owned, No there are no sub stations, 1 station located in pikeville city, As far as i know there is a truck on call 24/7 if that unit is busy they call in for a backup unit, depending on the location of where the crew members might live will take a factor in how long there response time is to the call. also they have 3 units.

Thank You. The one truck on call 24/7 are you saying it is not manned 24/7 that medics have to be called into the station from their homes?

They have a crew 24/7. The only time they call for backup crews is if the other crew is out on a call. If they one ambulance leaves the county they make sure that back up teams or on call. I think we have some good paramedics in the county, however I am sorry we lost at least 2 very good ones to other agencies.

well,if my house was on fire, i already know it will most likely burn to the ground before fire dept arrives. As far as medical I hope in the case of an accident, someone responds within a 2 HR TIME FRAME. But if they are with me at the time of an emergency, then I will transport them elsewhere. Not saying this to be a smartass but from experience.a

I know you are not trying to be a smartass and I dont know the experience you have had with the emt's, however the fire depts are different than fire. I have never know it to take 2 hrs to get an ambulance to any call in the county. I belong to Air Evac and if I need them I have a 800 number to call and if weather permits they launch and land in my front yard. They will advise you to call 911 but the Air Ambulance is available to all in the county. A memeber pays 50.00 year for 1 and 55 for 2. I still have faith in our Emts to respond and give the treatment on scene and transport where you want to go.

ok.well, life is precious and response time is essential and these ambulances need to know where they are going when responding to a call.I know it is hard to know addresses, and by no means am I putting these people down, its just we all have choices and I choose to go to a different hospital.

Amen and that is a choice you have. I know the emts will take you if its not a critical hour issue. Usually if they have that problem and Lifeforce or Air Evac can fly they will transport you via them. But everyone should and I believe they will transport where you want to go.

Is one (the same) crew on for 24 straight hours at the ambulance station? And does that crew take all the calls unless they are out? I know Air Evac and Life Force are great air medical services and we are blessed to have them in our area. The ambulance service uses, especially in critical situations where time is everything, either one to get you to a good hospital that can handle nearly every situation. So, martini, if you happen to have a stroke you better hope someone calls EMS asap because that can be reversed if you get EMS on scene to begin treatment immediately, they can call air medical and have you at a stroke center within the time limits. No way you will make it if you hope a family member or friend get you there on time. It is hard for me to believe that anyone has ever waited 2 hours for an ambulance. You are right though, life is precious.

I believe that is why bledsoes dispatch turned into a 911 center, when ur call comes is as 911 your address pops up on a screen and the dispatcher gives ur address out, no matter if its fire, ems, or law enforcement we all have address books in the vehicle so we know exactly how to get to ur home. but yes you are putting us people down look at some of your first comments. Everyone that is involved with fire, ems or law enforcement has had training in our county, and we work hard for the citizens of bledsoe to give them the help they need, as for our fire depts, jus to let you know they are all volenteers. They are not payed like ems or law enforcement to help the citizens. I think you need to just think about what all your saying, Just because you may have had a bad experience once or by a couple people of our county doesnt mean you have to put everyone else down.
