If everyone care So much about dog and cat why don't you all quit crying and start helping. Donated a hour or two a month. Or take them a bag of dog food. People thinks that the ASPCA is the answer. it Not All they wanted is money! This will never be a no kill shelter! My aunt used to work with the ASPCA and she got out!
I did go there and try to help out but I was denied the oppurtuniuty to help. I feel so bad to think of those animals in there that probably never get petted, held or just feel that someone loves them. I love animals and want to make a difference for them. I even said I clean up their poop if thats what was needed. Still they said that didnt need any help at this time. I was shocked to say the least.I wish I could just take them all home with me. Unfortunately I cant.

I just can't understand how the situation at the shelter continues to get worse and nothing is done. What would it take to get changes made? They should be welcoming volunteers with open arms. By not having volunteers it makes it look like there is something going on they don't want others to know about.

I know some of you would like to know why do I care? Well I think it was about five years ago, I was in Ohio at a dog trade a woman walked up to me and asked me what kind of dog have I got? Then she asked me can I take the dog picture, I started asking questions and find out she was in the ASPCA from louisville , I told her were i live. She said they was coming down here to help dogs and cats find a home. I told her that was good! But the more we talked they want to do a way with hunting and fishing or anything else to do with animal, I told her they will never do that, she said not overnight slowly we will, now when this all started the Pikeville ASPCA had nothing to do with American ASPCA, now they say they worked side-by-side lol I still think it's the same thing.

I think Hound may have it right. You are a backyard breeder. You were " in Ohio at a dog trade". Ohio and Pennsylvania are notorious for their dog trades that are nothing more than puppy mill sales. Lisa Ling did a story on them for Oprah a few years ago. Stacks and stacks of cages with unkept, overbred dogs. Shameful!

No wonder you think nothing was wrong with the way Randall Goode treated the animals the COUNTY took from his home. Dog carcasses in the creek and one dead dog still chained to a tree! Lady, if you think that is acceptable treatment of animals I feel sorry for you

refer to post #19..... The local aspca does work with the national aspca
If you read what I wrote, I said the Appalachian SPCA is helped by the American SPCA to transport animals they have and the shelter has when they are overcrowded. I NEVER said the Appalachian SPCA gets any funding from the American SPCA nor did I say they were a part or affliated with the American SPCA. If I was confusing, I apologize. The American SPCA has facilities ( like it or not) across the country and can transport animals to an area where they might have a better chance of being adopted rather than being killed if they stayed here. By the way, they don't do it for free - the Appalachian SPCA has to pay them to transport them. More proof that the local Appalachian SPCA is not part of the American SPCA.

A few years ago there was a kitten there that I wanted to adopt. I was told that they had to wait for someone else to come look at it before they would let me have it. I didn't know that it was customary to hold pets for someone to look at when someone was there offering a forever home. It took over a week before they would let me have it because they were trying to make sure one of there friends didn't want it first. They are rude there. No wonder they are so many pets without homes. They do need a total reorganiation at the shelter.

Since you seem to like to answer questions with questions, what did you think of how Good treated the animals that were taken from his home? And what were you doing at a dog trade if you aren't a breeder???

No thank you, do you realize how many animals are euthanized every day due to over breeding? I'm sure that some of the animals you have bred has fallen victim to this horrid fate, knowing that you love them, does this hurt you? To know that something you love has met a fate they so undeserved?

Are they spade or neutered? If not, then you are contributing to the problem. If people take your pups or kittens, do you think they fix them? Maybe, maybe not, but an unfixed cat, especially, can be the cause of thousands of unwanted cats over the coarse of a few years with off spring and their offspring and their offspring, etc...

Have you ever wondered how many litters of kittens a cat can have?

Well here are some basic numbers to show how fast cat populations can get out of hand.

The average number of litters a fertile cat can produce in one year is 3.

The average number of kittens in a feline litter is 46.

In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.

Only 1 in 12 of those 420,000 cats born find a home.:o(

Even if you found homes for all your cats, you are still taking away homes that other homeless cats could have had by adding to the population.

There are no excuses for your allowing a pet cat to have kittens.

Please Spay your cat!!!!

All of mine are neutered, I am a huge advocate for spay/neuter....I also donate every week to the Humane Society to help with the spay/neuter program for low income families.
My dogs & cat are males ....
Anyone who needs help can call Bonita at the Humane society, she will mail them a "coupon" for a free spay or neuter, one must take it to EKAC...owned & operated by Joey Collins.
