It is really disgusting that so many children in Kentucky are being abused like this. I just found this on wymt.com :

Sodomy case underscores child abuse in Kentucky

37 year old Susan Jamison and 20 year old Thomas Colwell are both charged with first degree sodomy against someone incapable of giving consent.

The case underscores the greater issue of sexual abuse in Kentucky and across the nation.

The Kentucky River Children's Advocacy Center in Hazard works to assist in child abuse investigations, offering services that include forensic interviews and specialized medical examinations.

More often than not, victims are molested by someone they know and trust.

"Trust is what children know. They trust you, and so when that happens to them, most of the time they think that's ok," said Teresa Humble, center executive director.

Humble says one in four girls and one in six boys in kentucky will become victims of sexual abuse before their 18th birthday.

Victims are often afraid to speak out about their abuse.

She says parents should look for changes in a child's behavior.

"Is the child withdrawn, is the child bed wetting, does the child have any sexual acting out behavior that's out of the norm for their age?" said Humble.

Victims advocates say the issue of child sexual abuse all too often goes unnoticed.

They say the best way to fight it is to bring it out into the open.

"This is something that needs to be talked about all the time, and everyone needs to have a clear understanding and know that this happens," said Humble.

And, humble says, children need to know that if something is happening to them, it's OK to tell.

What good does it do to bring charges when the jury lets them walk free?

Yes, there are lots of cases in the news about sexual abuse in Ky but there are a lot more cases that people never hear of. For instance the case this past week at the Pike County court house against Andrew Hale.

The crimes he committed took place last year and were reported in December when they were discovered. Yet the ONLY public mention of these crimes was a couple of lines in the Williamson Daily News at the time he was indicted. Other than that, there has been NO TV, radio or newspaper coverage.

The trial started with jury selection this past Monday morning and was over by midday on Wednesday. Within an hour, without asking to review any testimony or evidence from the prosecution, the jury was back with a not guilty verdict.

How can this happen? And how can we expect others to step forward when we let the guilty go free?

These 2 cases are so similar it is scary.

Andrew Hale was charged with sexual abuse was tried in Pikeville this past week and found not guilty.
25 years old, married with 2 children
Youth group leader
Met the victim in church where he was the youth leader
Victim was 14 years old when the sexual acts occurred
Admitted to the sexual acts

Michael Porter of Lexington has been charged with sexual abuse and is awaiting trial.
25 years old, married with 1 child
Youth group leader
Met the victim in church where he was the youth leader
Victim was 14 and 15 years old when the sexual acts occurred
Admitted to the sexual acts

I wonder if Mr. Porter will also be found not guilty.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT! What do you suggest we do? Stop talking about it and never tell our kids that it is WRONG for Uncle Tom to touch you in your privates? It's people like you who cause these things to be swept under the rug.

Sweep under the rug!!! Its much worse than that. pike county ranks in the top for the fewest juvenile sexual convictions in the state. I'm going bet pike county has the lowest convictions per capita than any other county in Kentucky. Very interesting! If anyone knows the exact numbers please let us know how pike co ranks not only in our state but others.

I would love to know those numbers. The recent trial of Andrew Hale is a prime example. He confessed on the stand to having sex with a 14 year old (he is 25) and yet the jury let him off.

Is Pike County really that ignorant or is everyone in someone else's pocket?
