how can a festival created for retards be ruined by retards. Hillbilly Days is a retarded festival created by retards for retards they are expected to act retarded because that's what they are. That's how you know the festival was a success, the more retards that show up the more successful the retarded event.

You all come on down ya hear!....lol

My husband and I arranged for a family member to watch our baby so that we could take our older child to HBD. Too cold, crowded, and hectic for a baby to be there... Hard enough with an older child. However this year wasn't AS BAD as a couple of years ago. We were approached by an idiot on one of the streets asking if we wanted to buy some kind of pills...(our child was right there and 4 at the time) It was very unnerving. She witnessed some crazy "dad" trying to fight with one of the carnival ride workers, literally attacking him, over the teddy bear ride.. Really?!?! Scared her to death but luckily there were a few officers nearby, that stopped the fight.
All in all, if the money that was made actually went to the Shriners then it would be wonderful, but prices are absolutely crazy there... really 5.00 to try for a gold fish... 5 dollars to throw 3 darts...and 20.00 for 20 tickets. Armbands used to last most of the day, we had tons of fun when I was younger, now its pitiful.
Drugs, dealers, and users ruin more than HBD. Things like this happen everywhere and I must agree, away from Pike County it is much worse. Shootings and riots and gang violence... Scary stuff!

Hillbilly Days is horrible now eh? Well I reckon we are all entitled to our own opinions and I speak to you all not as a troll or to get any of your dander up...or even as the person playing the devil's advocate...Just hear me out. You are aware that Pikeville's illustrious HBD is not the only festival in the world right? I've seen Boston during St. Patrick's Day and I've been fortunate enough to go to Mardi Gras in my youth. No amount of excess that any of you have discussed here on this forum compares to what is simply the norm at those more 'mainstream' festivals..Do I believe that people should get hammered with their children at this events? Of course not, irresponsible behavior is irresponsible behavior..but as adults living in the 'real' world we have to expect and understand our fellow man's need for the occasional excess..We need to plan for it...anticipate it..and roll with it....Furthermore the only thing more humiliating to me as an educated young person than someone from this region acting like a pilled out meth addicted BuckWild cast member....Is someone acting like prohibition, dry counties, and plenty of old timey religion is the way the world HAS to be and that those of us who believe in personal freedoms should merely have to shut up and take it...I assure you..this is not the case. Have a swell day.
