<quoted text> I don't think you grasp how devastating the loss of jobs from coal would effect your economy. All you have to do is to look at the steel cities and see how long it took them to even recovery some of the jobs they once had. The coal jobs in your community has effected every aspect of your economy. I hope you know of a source that can take the place of the coal jobs in your area. All of your businesses will be effected by the loss of these jobs.
First it is "affected".

Second, it has been coming forever and no Leadership has left us out of luck.

People have known for years this was going to happen. This area has had well over a decade to work on bringing in new industry and jobs to the region. But all anybody wants to do is lean on coal. And then drive around w/ a "friend of coal" sticker like that's going to do anything. If you're looking for where the failure is in this equation, look to your local leadership who should have been bringing in replacement jobs, and should be to this day. Are they? Not really. It's time for ppl in this region to accept that if they don't join the rest of the country and get an education, they can't expect to make college graduate salaries.

Of course what will really happen is ppl will whine and belly ache some more, coal will go under and everybody will turn to selling pills and the draw.. even more so than it already is.

I couldn't have said it any better. These people are trying to hold on to the past thinking that its still their future, and it's not. They want to complain about how far behind Kentucky is compared to the rest, like in education, but yet they are just as bad in their own homes. Fathers teaching sons to go underground when they should be pushing college.

You guys might be interested in watching "The Last Mountain" about the coal mining industry. If you have the Link channel (on Direct TV, it is channel 375), this documentary comes on tomorrow (Thrs. April 4, 7-9:30 pm). I was told this is a very interesting documentary and I plan to watch it.

Here's what I heard...these mines who laid people off were hiring again, but couldn't get any miners to work. They were sitting back drawing their unemployment and didn't want to go back...now, that's just what I heard, it's not my opinion.
