Okay, keep up now..the long-lasting and legendary melodic Progressive Metal band QUEENSRYCHE have now split into two separate bands using variations of the same name. You have the band named simply Queensryche who are all the recent membership of musicians but have recruited a new singer to replace original singer Geoff Tate. The new guy is former Crimson Glory vocalist
Todd La Torre and they have just released a new, self-titled lp "Queensryche". Now at the same time original singer Geoff Tate has put together one hell of an awesome line up and is using the name Geoff Tate's Queensryche and has mambers such as bassist Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.), and drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO, Rhino Bucket, etc.) and they too have just released an album titled "Frequency Unknown". So what we have is two different versions/line ups of the SAME band basically both using the similar name and both releasing lps at the same timing. Interesting. Here is a track from each of the new line ups of the band so you can hear which you prefer:

Queensryche - "Fallout"

Geoff Tate's Queensryche - "Cold"

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Now, I have BOTH of these new releases and while both are good in their own respective ways, Geoff Tate's Queensryche kicks ass! It's just the better of the two releases in my opinion and for my tastes.

Same here and I actually saw them on their famous Operation: Mindcrime tour when they were an opening act for Metallica years ago. Ironically the show was at the Cincinnati Gardens arena where the infamous trampling deaths of 9 (?) people happened at a WHO show years back and during this 'Ryche gig a fire started somehow toward the back of the place and their show was temporarily halted until everything was checked out, settled and resumed. This splintering has sucked like you said because I really expected the NON-Tate album with new singer Todd La Torre to be a return to their heavier roots..ala Rage For Order era and I was actually already a fan of La Torre's since his time in Crimson Glory. However, the Geoff Tate version of Queensryche has excelled as a much better album than theirs. On that note, here's new Queensryche singer Todd La Torre's earlier time in Crimson Glory, an American power metal band whose original singer, Midnight, committed suicide a year or two ago sadly.

Today is this guitarist's birthday and while he's created some of the most memorable riffs in rock history, I am going for one of his
lighter ones...Happy Birthday, Slash.

One of the better, more talented American Rock bands to come out in recent years is Austin, TX.'s THE SWORD. I guess Rock would be the appropriate label for these guys because they're somewhat hard to define..Hard Rock I guess? Anyway, The Sword are awesome..all 4 of their albums are great and I have seen them live twice myself. This is something from their most recent release Apocryphon:

"Cloak Of Feathers" - The Sword

BTW - For those "in the know" so to speak, Texas and North Carolina are the
inferno spots for America's hottest Hard Rock/Heavy Metal scenes currently.
Both have a plethora of great bands kicking ass in the trenches out there so
for anyone interested here's a list of bands from each state worthy of your
attention..

North Carolina: ASG, Hour Of 13, Horseback, Hadea (formerly Gollum), Sign Of The Southern Cross.

Texas: Ignitor, Ancient Wisdom, Scorpion Child, Evil United, Pasadena Napalm
Division.

That was different, Pete. I could not make any sense of the lyrics though, are they in Japanese?

Speaking of Jap..er, the Orient (kinda?) there is a band from Columbus, OH. that took their name from the film "Big Trouble In Little China" who are named LO PAN
and I dig them a lot. I have never seen them live though which I hope to remedy
one week from today in Johnson City, TN. as they are scheduled to play there with
N.C.'s Weedeater and ASG. Here is a taste of "Chicken Itza" from Lo Pan:

I just have to post this despite it's being an entire concert set being played. It's the spectacular OYSTERHEAD ( Primus Les Claypool, Phish's Trey Anastsasio, and The Police's Stewart Copeland) playing Live at Bonnaroo '06..
talk about some talent!

Holy crap! I just read the announcement of THE must-see tour of this year so far..for me anyway. Most of these acts will probably be unknown to most but trust me, this is a bill of truly kick-ass rock and roll like no other: Scorpion Child/Kadavar/Gypsy Hawk/Wilson/Mothership. It does not get any better than this and to prove it, a video from each band on the tour..

"Snake Eyes" - Wilson

"Polygon Of Eyes" - Scorpion Child

"Hedge King" - GypsyHawk

One of my favorite Rockers is THE Red Rocker himself: Sammy Hagar! I would love to see him live and now may be the time to do it since he's going out on a tour billed "Sammy Hagar & Friends" where he'll have guest musicians helping him do material from ALL his projects including Montrose, Van Halen, HSAS, Waboritas, Chickenfoot, and all the solo Sammy Hagar stuff of his as well..which includes this new track with guests Kid Rock and Joe Satriani..

I've hit the BIG time..sorta, LOL! Scion has released a Hi-Def live video to my pal Wino's band THE OBSESSED's song "The Way She Fly" from June's ScionFest in Memphis and I am in it (much like I am in an interview and pictorial with Wino in last year's The 25 Hottest Chicks In Metal from Revolver magazine). You only see me briefly on several occasions if you know where to look (right in front of Wino pretty much) and a lot of it's from behind but not all of it so here..enjoy!

Hey MC, I wanted to share a couple things with you and you may already know about them but here they are..I know that you, like myself, are a huge fan of The Cult and singer Ian Astbury. Have you ever heard these other releases with Ian like the song "Shine" from kick-ass raunch & rollers Circus Or Power's 1993 lp Magic & Madness or his 4 song effort with Japanese noise/doom unit Boris from 2010 titled BXI? Here's "Shine" and the BXI version of The Cult's classic song "Rain":

Gosh, I hadn't even thought about Circus Of Power in decades. I remember listening to them back in the 80's.

Nice version by BXI too.

Glad you enjoyed it. I was always a fan of Circus Of Power's brash brand of Rockin' Raunch & Roll too so you may find this interesting since you're already familiar with them from "back in the day", heh. Lead singer Alex Mitchell released a solo-ish type project in 2003 named Plastic Gator Machine which was a bit different than Circus Of Power in that it's more polished and bit more toned down..check it out:

"She's A Hot Rod" - Plastic Gator Machine

BTW - There is a Tribute album to Circus Of Power titled "Working For The Machine" which I've never heard but would love to.

Here's something else you may find interesting, MC since we were sharing covers from The Kinks elsewhere. The Kinks' Dave Davies has a son named Daniel Davies that sings for two different bands and both are killer in my book. They are YEAR LONG DISASTER and KARMA TO BURN and here's a track from each that features him on the vocals...

"Waiting On The Western World" - Karma To Burn

"Show Me Your Teeth" - Year Long Disaster

Alright, I gotta share this..I discovered this N.C. band about 2 years ago and have turned several people on to them: BLOODY HAMMERS. Their first self-titled
album had a real retro, vintage sound to it but I've just checked out the first "single" from their soon to be released second album "Spiritual Relics" and man..wow! Much heavier with some grooves. I am super stoked to learn they have been added to the bill of Saint Vitus & Zoroaster in Asheville in Oct. which I plan to attend. Check'em out:

Today was a really good day for ALICE IN CHAINS too for they released two new, separate videos. They are to 2 of the best tracks off of the latest AIC album "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" and they are my favorite song from that lp "Voices" and the title track as well.
