Here's a thought..... if these animals are causing damage and hazards, then issue to anyone who has the means to care for these animals a FREE horse, just go pick out the one you want and take it HOME with you. Apparently the "owners" have neglected their duties in caring for these animals and should be prosecuted for abuse and abandonment.

The horses are simply doing whatever possible to survive. As I said offer to the public a Free Horse and then focus all attention on finding the one responsible for putting those horses in that situation, then follow the letter of the law.

I recall a couple of boys doing just that to some horses that were at Beaver some years back. After paying a stiff restitution and some jail time, if you feel this is the answer. then by all means, knock yourself out.

I, however opt for the humane way of dealing with this issue.

Then I suggest you take action of your plan, or are you all about talk, talk, talk? Now run along and get your ammo and execute your plan, not only will the problem of these horses be solved in your mind, but the public will be relieved of your ignorance for some time as you sit in jail reminiscent of the time people only thought of you as a fool as opposed to now!

Still waiting for you to prove that you're not just talk, talk, talking out the side of your mouth. You've provided a solution to the problem. The public awaits your actions, or is it a fact that all you will do is talk, talk, talk?

You have just enough intelligence to open your mouth to eat, but certainly no more. Please stop talking (typing)

I can't get a job for a number of reasons.(1) I'm a stupid pos.(2) I will have to give up my line of work at Bob Amos.(3) I won't be able to steal everything my mother draws. And the last reason is because I'm a stupid queer pos.

It is against Kentucky law to release an animal into the wild without water, shelter, food and medical care!!! LOOK IT UP!!

The Pike County Sheriff should DO HIS JOB and find out who owned (and owns) those horses and arrest them. Take them to the jail house and the court system will sort this out. Then make the owners to pay for someone else to house, feed and care for those poor animals.

IT IS THE LAW!!!!! Why should the county, the animal shelter and the general public have to pay to take care of those horses???

Good horse owners take care of our animals... It is just inhumane to turn them out to starve and thirst to death in this frozen weather...

If you know who owns those horses, post the names here, on topix.

They say the horses are in the Phelps, Petercreek, and Majestic area up on strip jobs. Now that the grass on the mountain tops has died, the horses are coming down to get water and pick grass from people's yards. They are hungry and thirsty. Magistrate Hilman Dotson said where they have been loose for so long, they are wild. People on four-wheelers have chased them, people have thrown rocks at them, and even shot at them. Now, whenever anyone tries to be gentle to them and try to feed them, they run away because of how they have been treated. They said they are going to try to put up a corral with hay and feed inside and try to catch them that way. Also, said if a person would like to adopt one, they will allow it. But it wouldn't surprise me if they corral them and then shoot them all. Probably will say the horses tried to kick or bite them or something. After all, Kentucky has the WORST record on animal cruelty in the United States. We have animal shelters that kill dogs and cats, illegal chicken fights, and now this. I once wrote and ask our state senator to please introduce a bill for stiffer animal cruelty laws, but never heard back. Guess too many voters own dogs, roosters, and horses they don't want.

What's sad is there are no laws to protect horses, cows or any other livestock. The Romeo law only protects dogs and cats and with first offenses the penalty is a class A misdemeanor. Kentucky - AKA (The Bluegrass State)is known for it's beautiful landscape and Beautiful {race} Horses, yet the state has a reputation for being notoriously lax in regard to animal abuse, was one of the holdout states that penalized animal cruelty with only misdemeanor charges.

With very little leg work, I'm sure the owner's of these horses would come to light, and just the threat of legal proceedings combated with incarceration I would bet these "owner's" would rather pay restitution for damages incurred over a long term jail sentence.

You don't report animal abuse to state police, you report human abuse to them. You should have contacted animal control and lodged a complaint, just like the social services, when they get a report of animal abuse, they must come out to the residence and investigate. Tell the animal control officer that he is the owner of the horses, but you must have proof he is the owner or have several people to confirm it, and even then, if no one witnessed him turning out those horses he still may get away with it, but it's worth a try. According to the laws of Kentucky, a owner does not have to provide shelter for a horse, look it up.... unless it's changed in the last couple of years, that's why these owners are turning all these horses out on re claimed strip jobs, there are 25 - 30 horses up on beaver too. because of that clause of no shelter is required. If that is changed, then the people would stand accountable when they left their horses there w/o shelter.

Concerning the horses up beaver, I've seen people bring bags of chop/corn and hay for those horses. I can't say there were the owners because I don't know, but I'm assuming they were and I can't say they are left up there in winter time because the only time I visit there is during summer time when I'm riding myself. I have horses, and I also have a barn for them, I have another facility where I store the hay, corn, treats , tack and medical supplies. Any responsible owner would not turn out any animal to the wild whether it be dog, cat, or horses, and in my opinion they need to be prosecuted on abandonment, neglect and abuse for every horse there. That would add up to a hefty penalty or several years in jail! Now that his name is public information, the authorities and justice for these animals is just a phone call away

There were horses on the old Branham Baker strip job between Powell's Creek and Elkhorn. About two herds of around 12 in one heard and 16 in another. Some kids got into trouble for shooting some of them. They let them roam free out west, why can't we. Beautiful Animals! They keep bringing elk in here and they will cause as mush damage as horses. How can a horse damage a damn strip job anyway. Something they made by blowing up a damn mountain and pushing over burden into a hollow fill. Hard pack soil with some weed seed on it, a little horseshit might fertilize the place and make the grass grow.

Those horses don't bother anything and a lot of people like to go watch them. Part of a good tourist attraction if we ever got a damn ATV Trail system in here.

I see it as a good thing because since when do u see wild horses anywhere I mean literally wild horses are very endangered people catch them and send them to a slaughter house they should be free like they once was.!!!!!!!!
