What happened to the coal severance tax money that has been sent back to eastern Kentucky to do the very exact thing they are wanting to do now.

I guess this is the last HOORAH before the coal severance tax money runs out. Boys, grab all you can before it's gone.

Watching the SOAR summit on TV was like watching a rerun from 40 years ago. Same old song and dance and we still eat it up. I guess leadership didn't fail us, we failed ourselves by not DEMANDING more out of our leaders.

This is so stupid, same bunch attending that have done nothing to help us for the last 30 years but you fools in Eastern KY keep voting them right back in. I hope they give you nothing and maybe you will explore your voting options next time.

Coal will sink like the Titanic 2015 on, ole Mitch can't save it. He don't control the EPA and Obama would not piss on him if he was on fire.

This SOAR bunch is about 20 years to late, coal did not just start going away over night. Big ole democrat feel good rally, get you all filled up with hope and promise. Then the economy goes back on the back burner when the election is over. Sorry East Ky. we're screwed this time!

When the sorry, gullible brown nosers in these hills stop voting for their cousins, their buddies, and people who promise them favors, then we might see some real leaders get elected again in southeastern Kentucky.

You may be right about certain claims in that post but anyone with a functioning brain cell realizes that the local coal business seemed to tank after Obama was elected as president.

Anyone with IQ of a house plant knows the EPA will still be there when OBAMA is gone. The coal fired power plants to be taken off line by the EPA is online to view, it's a damn long list from 2015 on.

Real Slow fer ya! as the coal fired plants are shut down the demand for coal goes down, as the demand goes down the price goes down. Everybody and I mean everybody mines it cheaper than East Ky. Mitch can't save ya, Bush is gone. About our damn luck Hillary will get it in 2016. Even if you had pro coal president it would be the same deal.
Everybody else has a coal market, just East Kentucky got the shaft! After 100 years the easy coal is gone, coal ain't coming back. Any politician tells you different he/she is just lying for a vote.

Without doubt Obama helped speed up the demise of coal just as he said he would on the campaign trail. A new more coal friendly President, and it ain't Hillary, could use the power of the office to rein in the EPA especially if the Senate were coal friendly but coal is never likely to provide an economic base for Eastern Ky again. What's left? I'm sorry to say nothing. Tourism? Summer is 3 months out of the year, add another 3 for decent Fall and Spring weather at the most. We don't get enough snow for ski resorts, most years the hills aren't all that beautiful in the Fall and Hillbilly Days has faded for years and lasts 3 days. There are a few scattered golf courses but no golf resorts,no beaches,no gambling casinos and no professional sports teams..The Hatfield -McCoy sites are spread out all over creation and people are locked out of a lot of ATV roads and places to hunt. The Breaks could maybe be developed a little more but putting all of what I have mentioned into a viable tourist area would still not replace what we have lost. It amazes me that Pikeville just keeps building and building..We are going to be like one of those Chinese cities that no one lives in...This place is GONE.
