If a couple more big layoff's occur with other large mining operations "and they will" it may sink in that this is no run of the mill coal market slump! Over the next 3-4 years you will see this story repeated over and over again.

Until then you will have call backs at reduced wages and then more layoff's and then complete closure's. As long term coal contract run out new ones will be for a lot less money on the ton and less than most mines around here can produce it for. You will see this McCoy Elkhorn style shut down repeated over and over again in the coming months and years.
The coal industry will not die overnight, it will be a slow lingering death with the region trying to hang on to a dying industry.

no one believes your rhetoric!!
coalminers arent going to go back to work for minimum wage, my guess is once obamacare deal is done, they are forced to buy their own health insurance, and save the company tons of cash, they will go back to work.
this is a tactic that alot of employers will begin using in order to not have to provide health insurance.
kentucky is mined out of good coal plain and simple. it has nothing to do with obama or obamacare. its bad that this area will suffer but unless we get new high tech jobs then the place is gonna die. there are cheaper and better ways for electricity than coal and some of the ppl around here need to realize that. it makes the whole community look bad when ppl cant see the reality of it and keep clinging on to the only way of life they know. its time to drop the coal life and move on.

you get when you play a country music song backwards?

You get your trailer back, your truck back, your dog back, your boat back, your wife back!

Unless you are a coal miner then all you get is the shaft!

Obama's EPA is killing us but they are using natural gas to kill us with. It may be plentiful now but when you get all the coal fired plants converted over to Nat Gas they will holler the demand is so high they need to raise the prices. They will sell it artificial low also in order to get their foot in the door but when they get everything converted watch the price go two time the price of coal fired.
Just out luck, no jobs and electric bill will be triple what it is now.
I hate that people lost their jobs. The EPA regulations have been in place for many years. The power plants made a choice not to update the plants. The Western part of the US updated their plants and have no problem mining and selling coal. Natural gas is making coal a low demand product. I have many family members laid off in the coal industry, but facts are facts.

what part of this persons post made you decide that they are a check drawer?
and by check drawer, do you mean a disabled person, or someone who worked their life away and became disabled and began receiving their hard earned benefits?
or do you mean someone who is on welfare?
or maybe a rich person who lives off of the dividends of money earned thru either legal or illegal or ill gotten gains??
please explain?

I agree with you, the rich are the most greedy people you will come in contact with. As long as its not coming out of their pocket they are willing to do and try anything greed makes most people loose any trace of where they might have once had some character.I would say 80% of people who are rich at their had to do bad things and be nothing but greedy to get where they are and to have what they have.
