I never knew I had a choice to switch to Verizon. I am going to look into that now. I have seen some cell phones that Verizon has that I would love to have, and I am thinking that the service would be better than what I get with AT & T. I live in the Virgie area, and can't get any service, where as those with App. Wireless can. I checked about switching to App. Wireless, but with three lines, and the features I have on those lines, it was just not financially possible. We travel a lot, so I am thinking that Verizon would be a good choice for us now!
This has been very helpful info, so thanks everyone!
i have verizon an i love it .it picks up every i go even in a elevator,i have had it for 3years

I've had appalachian wireless, Verizon, and now have sprint. Honestly I can say that the prices at AW SUCKED, at VW, they were a little less Sucky, and I'm pretty satisfied at sprint. I know that at VW its all unlimited for $119.99/mo (89.99 for talk and text and 30 for data) but I get everything unlimited for $99.99/mo at sprint. Also just a side note, they also have the Everything Data plan 450 for just $69.99/mo which has unlimited text, data, and calling to all mobile phones regardless of carrier when you're not roaming. The only thing not unlimited on that plan is talking to landlines, but since they are roaming around here that plan doesn't cut it very well for me. Just stick with everything unlimited for $99.99.
And talking about phones, have you guys seen the HTC EVO 4G phone coming out this summer for sprint. Its the first 4G phone in the world, the thing has 2 cameras and plays movies in HD. Plus you can stream it to your TV and everything. Check this thing out :)

You've obviously not checked in with Appalachian Wireless in awhile. They've came a long way with their plans and pricing. For $64.99, you can get unlimited talk. Add the $19.99 Data Plan, and you've essentially got that 99.00 Sprint plan you're bragging about for $84.98 a month.

What you're also failing to notice is that Sprint and Verizon both completely roam on AW in Eastern KY, you're using their towers 100 percent of the time, and Sprint and VZW are paying AW on your behalf. Sprint's "Simply Everything" plans limit the amount of roaming usage you can have, and they've been known to cut people off for violating that. Check the fine print in your contract.

Also, Sprint will only agree to use AW's 2G service, they won't even sign a deal to use their 3G EVDO coverage here. So, using an AW phone is the only way you're going to get any 3G coverage anywhere between Lexington and Huntington. I'll agree that the 4G WiMax HTC phone is pretty awesome, too bad there's only 4 cities in the US where Sprint's rolled out 4G. The rest of the time, you're on the 3G EVDO, or God forbid, the old 2G 1X technolgy that's about as fast as dial-up.

One other thing, notice that I said "WiMax" when I referred to Sprint's 4G. All the other carriers, App Wireless included, are going with a competing 4G technology called LTE (Long-Term Evolution...I encourage you to look it up) that is not compatible with what Sprint is doing. That meas that there will come a day when Sprint is the only one supporting that technology and their devices will be incompatible with everyone else's. No more roaming for them!

That said, yes, Verizon will run on App Wireless.

False rumors.... You have some serious anger issues. It is you who doesn't seem to understand the economy. Regardless of whether or not the people in your small community choose to own App Wireless phone or Verizon phones has nothing to do with school funding or the economy tanking. If they buy phones from App Wireless....bam.....taxes paid. Works the same way if they buy phones from Verizon. Taxes are taxes! Schools will still get their funding because in either scenario there will still be a local cell store in your town. It just might not be the same name you're used to. Maybe you should save your political ranting for election time. Oh and check out the library. They have lots of books on Economics!

The $19.99 data plan is only for sucky cell phones, but if you want a decent phone with a full browser you have to have the $29.99 plan. Then if you want text messaging you're adding another $19.99... That all puts you at $114.97 plus taxes and surcharges... So you're bill is essentially going to run about $130.

With Sprint,$130 gets you TWO phones, meaning two people can share the unlimited data, unlimited text, ANY mobile ANY time, plus 1500 minutes for talking to land line phones... you do the math... oh, and anyone else you need to add also gets all those same features for only $19.99 a month.

Now, for you to have 5 people with unlimited talk, text, and data with App. Your bill is going to be $504 a month plus taxes... with sprint, you have have the Everything DATA 3000 for all 5 phones for only $230 a month. Which is actually Unlimited data, text, anymobile anytime and 3000 minutes to use to talk to land lines with. If you're family doesn't talk much to land lines then you can keep the 5 on the Everything data 1500 for $189.99/month...

Seriously if you cant see the savings there I suggest a math class or two.

I think it should be a matter of national security that all cell towers should be available to callers from ANY network;verizon, at&t,app wireless etc.

Cell Guy:
Wrong again. Appalachian Wireless owns it's own network and Verizon pays them to use it. 5 cents per minute is what it usually is for carriers. Stop spreading lies about things you don't know.
As for the Verizon vs App Wireless guy:
While I can see your point, you did not mention it was for 2 people before hand. You could have had a Pearl/Curve for free on the day after Thanksgiving sale so your point on the cost of the phones is pointless in my mind. The Storm is a fad. The Curve blows it away. I have used it many times, even with the latest OS, and it's absolute junk. If someone walked in and gave me one of them right now, I wouldn't use it for anything other than a paper weight.
The data is higher, I agree. It wasn't just a few short months ago I assure you. Appalachian will readjust in the coming months to compensate for this as well I would presume. In the end it doesn't matter. If you are in Eastern Kentucky with a CDMA phone, you are using Appalachian Wireless' network and Verizon is writing them a check every month for your usage. In all honesty, they are probably making more money off of you being with Verizon than they would if you were with Appalachian. So it's all good. You make a great point, but Appalachian Wireless is in business to make money and their cost for things is significantly higher than Verizon for EVERYTHING they do. So there will always likely be price differences between a national carrier and a local carrier. Customer service on one hand is where Appalachian makes up for the price difference. You will not talk to a human being at Verizon Wireless in less than 10 minutes when you call them, it's more like 30 minutes, and they will be from India and barely speak English. I have never called Appalachian Wireless and had it take longer than 1 minute to get through. If your phone tears up with Verizon, they will NOT provide you with a "loaner" phone to use while yours is off for repair. And you will still have to pay the bill for a service you don't even have a phone on. Repair time is usually 8-12 weeks (at least) for national carriers so that's 3 *$60 month if your phone messes up (and it will).$180 and no phone for 3 months. Ouch.
I have Verizon, customer service has always been an American when I've called and as far as replacement or service of my phone has been overnight to me both times I've needed it...

I for one would hate to see our local companies disband. As far as service goes, they cannot be beaten. My family travels a lot and no matter where we go, we have coverage. Those family members that travel with us that have Verizon borrow our Appalachian Wireless phones to make calls.
Our biggest problem through the years was getting local coverage in these mountains.....BUT, that has improved over the years. We have few dropped calls now.
I am proud of our local folks.

The truth is that anywhere you would have service with App Wireless, you will have service with Verizon. I have had Verizon for over a year and LOVE it! The service areas are the same, but Verizons Customer Service is GREAT!
