does anyone know exactly when the library in town by the unemployment office was built,or the new post office by wal-mart was built.i tried finding the info online but haven't been successful yet.i am curious as to why these practically brand new buildings are being rebuilt at new locations at the taxpayers money.i know the buildings aren't that old and are in great condition and are able to meet the requirements for which they were built.these are multi million dollar building that were paid for in part by us taxpayers.from what i have read in the local paper the library is now going to be used by the college and the post office is going to be torn down all together.this just seems like a huge waste of taxpayer money to me.were these relocations considered and already in place when the buildings were built?was it know at that time that the college would eventually end up with the library?why build a post office and spend over a million dollars on the project to just tear it down only a few years later?who is making these decisions and who benefits from those decisions?why is the college getting the city hall building and the house beside the city park?i know the story is because city hall is moving but is that the whole story.i have a book in the works that hopefully will bring to light the widespread corruption in this town and where the money is coming from and where it is going?the citizens of this town need to start asking questions and getting some real answers.

I have wondered the exact same thing. Why you would build a library in a section that is obviously zoned for businesses and retail. If you are trying to create commerce, would you not be better served to offer such prime real estate to merchants instead of building a 4-5 story library? Good question!!!!

i wonder the same thing about the location of the new library.the library in town does get people coming in but not nearly enough to justify building a new one.plus the new location will make access harder for the ones in town who have no transportation.the one in town is just one story, the library section of that building, and really doesn't get as much visitors as it used to and those numbers are falling due to online book clubs and articles.but the new one will be at least three stories and will be built right in the middle of a commercial zone.i would be willing to bet that within five years the city will say that due to lack of interest from the public the new library will be closing and that building will end up being used by the college or the hospital.once again taxpayer money will be wasted so that the college will get a new facility for practically nothing or the hospital will buy the building for a fraction of what it will cost to build.

Well I came to Pikeville in 1999 and the library was built in and or about 2001 or 2002. Post Office at about the same time as I recall.
