A Pikeville nursing home has been added to a list of the nation's most troubled nursing homes, bringing the number of Kentucky homes on the list to four.

Nursing home inspectors found 19 federal deficiencies at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from Jan. 1, 2010, through Jan. 31 this year, said Beth Fisher, spokeswoman for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. The state average for deficiencies is six.

It may have been added for being a "troubled" facility, due to a careless smoker, but check the last 3 years surveys, not 1 thing cited for nursing care. That means alot. I'm sure that is not the only facility that allows smoking for the residents, but it's the only one that a accident has happened at, and it really could happen at any facility. ACCIDENTS CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE...It was not actually a fire from what the residents stated, it was smoke. The residents will tell you that they receive great care at the facility.

A NURSING HOME IS THE RESIDENTS "HOME", IF THE WOULD BE ABLE TO SMOKE AT HOME, THEY ARE ALLOWED TO SMOKE IN A DESIGNATED AREA AT THE NURSING HOMES AS WELL. JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE IN A NURSING HOME, THEY STILL HAVE A LIFE, THEY STILL HAVE RIGHTS. IT DOESN'T MATTER AT ALL ABOUT AGE, YOU STILL HAVE RIGHTS~!! YOU ARE HUMAN...

I can prove you wrong on that right now. I have paperwork to prove it.(that is so laughable). Why don't you check with the state dept. Careless smoker. That would have been one def. THEY HAVE 19. If you think that is all comes down to one smoker you are dead wrong. Call the state dept and ask just how many substantiated claims they have had in the last three years. The place needs to be closed.

Going to a nursing home does not take away your rights. Yes many have smoking areas for their residents. The smoking is not the issue anyway. This place has 19 deficiencies! The smoking patient was only one.

It is considered their residence. Not all people there are physically ill. Never mind, you obviously know nothing about nursing homes and the regulations so there is no point in trying to explain it to you.

It is not just a medical facilty. Not like a hospital. They have their area to smoke. It is not a public place. They live there and if the public doesn'tlike it, then the public needs to leave.

It is no more a public place than your residence is a public place.

Exactly how ignorant are you? Nursing homes are not public places. People live in them. It is their home. It is a not a public place, it is not a hospital. Never mind, I really don't have the time,or the energy to try to explain something like that to someone who doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.
