Coventry Cares will keep paying for addiction fighting drug
After sending a letter out to patients stating they would no longer pay for the drug Suboxone, Coventry Cares officials have changed their mind.
Coventry Cares released a statement Monday saying they would continue to pay for the drug Suboxone after consulting with SelfRefind, an addiction treatment center.
The drug Suboxone is used to help patients addicted to opioids such as Vicodin or Oxycontin.
UNITE officials in Kentucky say the drug is helpful, but can also be dangerous.
"It is a piece of the pie as far as treatment goes. Not every treatment works for everybody. There are folks out there that will abuse the drugs, but there are also people out there that are serious about this treatment," said Debbie Trusty with Operation UNITE.
Coventry Cares has proposed a meeting with SelfRefind, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services as well as other MCO's to discuss the best practices for addiction recovery treatment and the Commonwealth's medicaid coverage for such treatment.
Coventry Cares released this statement:
"After discussing the issue with SelfRefind, Coventry understands their concerns. As result, we will continue covering Suboxone and similar medicines for all Coventry members while we work through the Cabinet's process to determine whether these drugs should be covered for certain categories of Medicaid recipients or everyone.
Because of the importance of this issue to all parties involved, we have proposed a meeting with the Cabinet, SelfRefind and representatives of the other MCOs to discuss best practices for addiction recovery treatment and the Commonwealth's Medicaid coverage for such treatment."

I am guessing you are someone who has been kicked off the system benefits! Or an addict who isn't eligable for benefits and you are jealous of the addicts that are! If you understand anything about addiction then you would understand that good people get mixed up in bad things to. There should always be resources available to people in need. I agree there will always be the ones who abuse it, but thats everywhere and in anything! Some people are on government benefits b/c they can't go to work b/c they issues that are undiognosed and are self medicating with drugs and alcohol. If you are of the working class and not eligable for benefits and you dont suffer from addiction then you wouldnt be looking at this article. You wouldn't be ignorant enough to not only show your hatred for your fellow americans and immigrants publicly! Do yourself a favor admitting your an adict is the first step!
