Welfare. The word alone evokes name-calling insult and belittlement of others in most cases while the benefit and good cause of this program is ignored and downplayed. And make no mistake, there is much good this program provides and can provide to people and families in dire need and deserving of such/our assistance but it is overclouded by the rampant fraud and deceitful gain within this program as well. Such fraud and misuse has created a stigmatic stereotype in many people's minds to where they're unable to fathom the good done and only focus on the negative failures of it all. Look, no one disputes that the entire scope of Entitlement Programs are in bad need of reform and overhaul that would include much closer screening processes and a more restricted criteria to meet to obtain benefits, especially under the current Administration that seems to love doling out the resources to any Tom, Dick, or Harry claiming "need".

Recently I saw a story where Fliers had been distributed in Portland, OR. threatening to name the local resident's names that were receiving EBT Benefits (aka "Food Stamps") in a manner that stated things like "27 people in this neighborhood who vote and receive Welfare Benefits.." implying apparently that people are applying voting practices that favor increased Welfare for themselves. There have been no names published as of yet and if that does occur it might be cause for a criminal prosecution of the flier's printer on several different possible charges.

My question to the public upon this forum is the tactic of shameful intent a useful weapon against benefit fraud, misuse, and abuse of these programs? Or is it possible that this may hurt innocent people/families and unfairly punish them for merely their circumstances?

I'm somewhat surprised that this threat/issue has not got much attention (other than my usual TLH-obsessed Homotrolls pitiful Judge It antics, LMAO!) due to it focusing on one of people's usual gripes: Welfare and Welfare Fraud. I guess too many people are abusing the system themselves and have learned that people may try to publish their names for such..choosing to remain silent instead of biting the hand that feeds them, LOL!

Can you imagine how much paper it would take to print fliers with all the people's names that are getting EBT/Food Stamps around here by fraudulent means?! Good grief, it would wipe out an entire forest of trees, LOL!

Welfare Programs were meant originally to help Widows and Children, pure and simple and not to be the life-long means of surviving for so many deadbeats and criminals. Liberals perverted the program just
the same as they do most everything else.

You are right on this. If it helped only the truly needy people it would be a wonderful program. Needless to say all the drags have ruined it.

I don't think you would need to publish names. There needs to be a better screening process. Just because you're "nervous" or addicted to some substance or just plain lazy doesn't and shouldn't qualify you for assistance!

I fully agree with both of your Posts, Betty. There is way too much fraud taking place within these programs these days and I consider the entire Welfare Program the perfect place to start for overhauling and reformation. That would include much more stringent screenings for applicants with a
heavier focus on information confirmation. I say that because this is where much of the base
defrauding takes place as people lie or misrepresent their circumstances to begin with (i.e.
# of household residents, additional income, etc.).

well, i dont really care if some woman gets foodstamps or a check and has a man on the side who works.
the foodstamps, etc is for her kids.
if she has a man who works and brings in some cash to help her pay her bills, well, big friggin whoop!!
maybe americans should get half as riled up over people like john boener and mitch mcconnell, and others in the senate and congress, using our tax dollars to fly around the country, and living in big nice houses, and sending their kids to the best schools, having the best food served to them by maids and having the nicest cars, with a driver.
and heres the best part, having the best health care that YOUR tax dollars can buy.
while we sit at home strugglng to make ends meet.
all the perks they get are tax paid, by the american citizens, the same ones bitching and gripping because some woman gets foodstamps and has a man working.
or someone getting wic.
hud, ssi, or whatever it might be.
i would love to see the budget of the WELFARE class put up against the budget of the HOUSE.
lmfao!!!
and no, I dont think anyone should trade their assistance money for drugs, or buy pop and sell it/
or anything else that isnt what the money was intended for/
but if you work a little, maybe babysit, or weedeat for a neighbor or fix a car for someone, whatever it might be and they pay you a little cash, that to me is no big deal.
i dont care, as long as the children get fed and live in a half way warm decent home, what business is it of ours if some woman finds her a good working man and he throws a little gas money or buys a few groceries for her????
it isnt going to break the budget of the united states.

Using fraudulent means to obtain increased benefits is criminal and morally apprehensible as well and here's why: What makes any one family/mother, etc. more deserving than any other? If one Mother uses the Program properly and legally and one Mother does not yet receives the SAME benefits as the other
then that is hardly fair and just for one Mother has the actual NEED more than
the other one. And as the program is originally intended, the Mother (or person
or family, etc.) with the true need is the one it's meant to help...not people
that are abusing it to and depriving others in unison.

So true. Plus the welfare system holds the the people that want to do better down. A family cannot survive on minimum wage alone . maybe if 2 people in the family are earning minimum wage, but they still need some assistance. This is just my opinion. What about you Pat? What do you think?

Oh, I completely agree and think that the best, most ideal assistance should come in the form of a responsible Government that's fiscally sound and accountable but look what we've got instead. Spend-happy, irresponsible and disconnected powermongers who place their Partisan Politics over the well-being of their constituents. The system as a whole is rife with fraud and waste, excess and abuse and while I don't condone defrauding the system in
any way, I also cannot really blame families for doing whatever they feel they must to survive..it's a real Catch 22.
