Why is it so hard to find a decent place to rent around here? I've looked in the newspapers, asked around and no one knows of anything. Any suggestions?

Well, the thing is that people around pikeville are so greedy that most landlords are charging people six and 7 hundred dollars a month for a one bedroom apartment. It's ridiculous around here!People are just better off to move to lex and get a nice 2 bedroom for 500 a month. I even saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a 1 bedroom apt for 800 a month! But for any consolation the ad did say it was a nice apartment! LOL

You know why they charge so much because they leave the place in a mess and a month or two of rent and utility bills,it's not landlords fault,If the landlords can eliminate the deadbeat renters people could rent decent places at a reasonable price..

It sucks that some people do that - but if a certain renter doesn't pay his rent and bills they need to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT...don't just let them get away with up and leaving in the dead of the night...instead of charging everyone else with good intentions an arm & leg...and people wonder why pike county is running into the ground.

No where is cheap anymore. First of all the reason it seems to be ridiculous what landlords charge is because property taxes have gone up,2nd - preivous renters destory the property & landlords are out hundreds even thousands just to bring it back up to suitable renting standards. I myself would love to have your rental prices of $700-$800 a month. Here where I live it is $1,500 or higher plus utilities. Its just not hard on people in Pike county but all over Untied States.Maybe people should consider relocating to different areas where there is many more choices in jobs and better way of getting to the jobs and start over in a better future away from a place that has nothing to offer a person other than sitting at home doing nothing but the oppurtunity of drawing a check. Im not putting any body down for that being only choice they have, because I am from Pike county. Lived in the same aggravation of renting & finding a job. Had nothing but alot of Love for my children. But once I took that step forward & relocated myself. it all got better one day at a time. I now have a great life, money in my pocket to do anything I want, now own my home, a new truck , this all took me 5 years to get better than K-Tap for 5 years and alot of ease to the worries I had living there. If I can do it anybody can do it. You poor soul, it is really sad that you think just because people choose to reside in eastern kentucky, that automatically means they draw a check and sit on their butt. You must have been very unsuccessful here in Pike County, and I am sorry for your luck. Please keep in mind that Pike County is the most wealthy county in Ky per capita (if you can even comprehend the meaning of that). Therefore, there are MANY successful individuals who reside in Pike County. I have lived in larger cities and been successful, and I chose to move back to Pikeville because I enjoy the peaceful way of life in a small town. Yes, there are drugs, bad people, and lazy people here, but I bet there are all of these things where you live as well. It is a persons will power and desire that will determine their success, not where they are from or where they live. I forgive your ignorance on this matter, as you obviously are not a very insightful person.

I understand what you are saying. There are limited job opportunities available here that pay well. Sometimes relocation is the best answer.
