I guess you think the city prices the gas, huh? FYI, the new library is a county library, not the city! The city didn't want it there but the people that did used reasoning such as people can drop their kids off at the library to study while parents grocery shop.... Explains test scores doesn't it...lol
Furthermore, the retail is going in and apartments too! This city has never looked better and there has been more growth in the last ten years in Pikeville than most cities in the state. The census showed Pikeville was second to Louisville in growth percentage genius!
Where did you read that horse sh-t in the ANE.

God that is awful!! of course having places to shop is always more important then cheap, affordable hpousing for people. Stop mcomplaing and be thankful for what you do have. You have grocery stores that you can walk into and have shelves stocked with anything you could ever want. Imagine what it would be like to walk into a grocery store that has nothing but a couple loaves of bread and some canned beans. People in other countries don't even know what a grocery store is and are starving. As fotr gas prices. be thankful that you even have a car to put gas in. Be thankful you live in a country were you don't have to worry about being killed. Imagine what it would be like living in one of these countries going through civil war. Imagine what it would be like going to bed every night scared to death. Wondering if a missle is going to come through your roof. How woulde you feel if you had men armed with ak's outside your local Lowe's ready to shoot you. You have been blwessed with every given oppurtunity to be happy and all you care about is a shopping center and high gas prices. While there are people in this world that don't even know where their next meal is coming from. They don't even know what a shopping center is or would care even if they did have one. You know, we don't have much here. But be thankful for what you do have. You have everything you could ever need right here for you. Shelves upon shelves of groceries, gas stations all over the place, hospitals. Did you know that getting just basic health care is a major issue for many people in the world. You have pharmacy all over theplace where you can get medecine. Do you know how many people in the world can't even get basic medications for pain or fever. This is why many people throughout the world think American's are spolied. There are people in this world that would anything just for a quater of what you have. There are people in the world that would stand amazed to walk into a grocery store and see shelves stocked with more meat and vegetables then they could ever eat. Furnitures stores filled with nice furniture. it's amzing you have really been given so much inlife and all you care about is a library, a shopping center and gas prices. You don't have to loive your life in terror wondering if you're going die the next day. Please get a clue and stop your complaining.

I totally agree that we should all count our blessings and consider ourselves fortunate to be living in a country where we're not starving or having to be afraid for our lives every single day; however, that does not mean citizens of this county should just work, pay taxes, and never give an opinion, complain or question anything that our politicians are doing with our tax money or how they run the town whether it be good or bad.
I'm as thankful as the next fellow to be living in America, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to notice or care what's going on in our town (and in our country) and how it's being run, and if that means complaining, so be it. That's how and why we came to live in the greatest country on earth. The day people just turn a blind eye and think they shouldn't voice their opinions (because they've got plenty to eat) is a sad day for everybody.

apartments over a shopping center?

how is that going to work out??
Get out of Pike Vegas to a populated area. It's pretty common actually to have a large shopping district w/ apartments above. Hell, for that matter, look at Pikeville. There are still some ppl living on 2nd, 3rd floors of what's left of downtown.

I really hope it is true about the apartments. Pikeville is in dire need of (affordable) housing. Landlords and property owners around here seem to think Pikeville is Malibu. Go anywhere else just about, and you can rent a very nice house for what it costs to live in a trailer park in Pikeville.

it sure as hell wont be affordable for the working people in pikeville or pike county!!
have you seen ads for rentals in pikeville and surrounding areas?
rents on a one bedroom can go up around 7 or 8 hundred dollars on most places.
larger places, such as 3 bedrooms, can go over a thousand dollars.
lack of any housing has created a demand and landlords can jack the rent up to an outrageous amount.
if these arent lower income apartments or take hud, the working people wont be able to afford to rent them, they will be living out back in a tent.

The only damn thing I've seen growing these last 10 years is Pikeville Medical Center. I'm so sick of people's acting like it's the best hospital around. It's so freakin expensive you can travel to Lexington or Cincinnati and get much better srvice that's actually affordable. Pikeville charges more to have tonsils removed than Cincinnati charges for total reconstructed surgery on a baby born with cleft lip and palate. Nothing is ever gonna be built in Pikeville other than black hospital buildings everywhere

We haven't grown in population because this place is increasing "awesome" - We grow because we continually annex surrounding areas. It's the city's way of cheating it's way to higher tax revenue and inflated population numbers.

pmc only makes matters worse if you ask me.
had a friend who really literally could have died due to the lack of care they recieved there.
this person had an issue that only got worse, within 24 hrs of leaving pmc er, with a bandage and an aspirin, they were admitted to another local hospital with a bad infection, that was slowly spreading and could have spread to the heart since it was in the bloodstream.
they stayed on iv antibiotics and had to have the infection drained from their body for days.
pmc sucks so hard they should win awards for sucking.
i hate that place with a passion.
i can count at least 4 unneccessary deaths because people chose to go there for simple procedures and were only made worse.
whatever you do dont go there to see a heart doctor.

how come the low cost housing all turn out to be Quail ridge or middle income housing. There is a need for low income housing in Pikeville but the city knows you don't get much tax from low income.
They want High and Middle Income to move inside the city limits, this bunch won't build any low income housing! May call it that to get the seed money and the ball rolling but let's see what actually gets built.

we have bigger issues, like jobs, or the lack thereof. and our coal severance money going to that bullshit.
next, putting the post office and a shopping center in that area is a big waste of space, as bad as putting the library over near tractor supply that whole area should have been the location of the expo center and hotels, restaurants, bars, bowling alley or other attractions, miniature golf, etc and gift shops, etc.
that whole area could have been a tourist area. visitors to the expo would have stayed in hotels, shopped, eaten, etc.
the people running things in pikeville are so out of the know and so outdated its pathetic.
and yes, gas is 3.50 at most places in pikeville and pike county, drive to jenkins its 3.19 and in other areas its as low as 3.07 or lower.
its no reason no one wants to come to pikeville, the walmart sucks, gas is too high, nothing to do and no places to visit.
