i have seen a lot of bad hype about wal-mart lately and quite frankly passed it off as just people whining...i stand corrected. i went there this evening around 5 pm. the deli for some odd reason was closed. shelves were empty. the produce section was lacking at best. the only positive part was the cashier working her tail off to keep the line moving...why has this happened to this store? is it a understaffing issue? product shortage? and why ...would you shut down your deli at rush hour time? when the key point of sales is a window of 2 hours? needless to say the ball was dropped this evening.

from what i was told by one of the cashiers the under staffing problem is due to people failing their drug tests.the lines aren't as bad now as they used to be but christmas is coming up so that is bound to change.i have also been there a few times and some sections in the grocery dept. were basically empty of everything,in the process of stocking maybe, but why wait until the shelves are bare.and those times weren't during bad weather or forecasts of snow.as far as for the rest of the store the only real problem i have ever had was with the auto dept. and them opening late and being rude and slow.but i usually only have to deal with them once a year.

It seems they always say they don't have help because everyone fails their drug tests. I think part of it is just an excuse to not hire as many people. If everyone around here is that doped up then we all need to get out of here.

Food City's business seems to have increased lately since their expansion.

i agree, there arent that many ppl failing drug tests, and most of the ppl working taking drugs get scripts from their docs
the reason pikeville walmart cant keep ppl is cause they treat their employees like dog shit
they hire them, promising a full time job, then they cut their hours to just under the required limit to be considered full time, so they dont have to pay overtime or give them benefits....god forbid u are a woman and you get pregnant, you will have your hours cut and be told to go sign up on welfare for the medical card until you have your baby so walmart doesnt have to pay
ha, walmart is a joke
and lately their prices arent that cost saving either
i am sick of hearing about ppl not being able to pass a drug test to work at walmart
hell, hire the friggin druggies if they will work

It's not the drug tests, they are understaffed right now because they cut everyones hours the partime people that were only getting 32 hours have been cut to 24 hours and some even more they even cut the full time people donw a few hours as well. Thats why they are understaffed. the management there is horrilbe they have no clue on how to do anything and they try to count on the people below to them to do there job and when that happens the regular people on the floor cant do there job and it just falls on down the line

i was just repeating what the cashier told me.i told her that they need to stop the drug tests so they can keep people and keep the lines open.she said well you don't want druggies counting your money do you and i said i don't care cause i don't do drugs and i know how to count, anything is better than standing in line long enough for ice cream to melt.but like i said that was a while back and it's usually not that bad now,but most of my shopping there is at night or in the evenings due to my work schedule.but the drug problem is definitely that bad around here.look at all the arrests in the paper, people forging prescriptions, impersonating doctors over the phone, the pill mills getting raided, pharmacies being shut down, pharmacies and homes broken into and robbed, drug related deaths way up.i can see how it could affect the stores as far as keeping workers.

Claiming people fail their drug tests is nonsense. Wal Mart is a piece of crap Company that us ony worried about a dollar. Why work several employees when you can get by with just paying one. F the customers, they will either wait or they can hit the bricks. Companies like Wally World are responsible for the shape this country is in. Encourage employees to sign up on welfare, anything so they don't have to pay benefits. With all their money they buy a few republicans to pass laws where they can work a person so many hours a week without paying any benefits. Corporate greed is destroying this country, and republicans are paving the way. Then holler people are lazy. Lazy because they won't work for wages so low they can't even afford to pay the light bill.

I agree that I don't think its the failed drug tests. I think its the short hours they give to try to keep their overhead down. As long as they have part timers they don't have to provide all the benefits. I used to work for another place that gave me 40 + hrs a week and paid me overtime but after a year when I ask about vacation for the next year I was told that I was only part time and didn't have any vacation time or benefits available to me. I was only 19 but I quit that day. I felt I was being taken advantage of because I was doing all the bosses dirty work and running for her personal life but when it came to the job she didn't want to give me any chance for advancement so I think that's why walmart can't get/keep employees.

Drug testing is not the main problem. Discriminatiom is. the
manager Matt Wallace is headed for some lawsuits if he keeps
it up. He will not hire anyone with any kind of arrest record, no
matter how insignificant, or what it was for unless he thinks it is aa
pretty woman. That is pure discrimination and something needs to be done. Everyone makes mistakes, including him, but people can change. I also
hear that the ugly, fat bald bast&$! throws pills and money at
the employees he does hire to give him a little action in the
back room

WalMart has done what WalMart always does: They come into town, lay on the "we're all about pleasing the customer" routine until they run every Mom-N-Pop business into the ground, then they cut back their staff to next to nothing so they don't have to pay out anything. They rake in MILLIONS here in Pikeville and put next to nothing back into the community. The employees get little pay, virtually no benefits... It's the way they do business. They could care less if you have to stand in line for a half-hour to pay for your groceries... They know you don't have many other choices.

I wouldn't hire someone with a record myself..I think low lifes like that should not get any opportunities until the clean nosed hard working folks can get a job.
