I have had good and bad experiences there, the women that work the desk up front are usually very rude but the vets do a good job. I have also had a few emergencies when they were closed and they always call you back when you leave a message and will meet you there if it is very serious.

Joey was great when it was just him. He brought in some vets that in my opinion were snobby a$$es...

I really like Joey. He is an excellent vet. He will come out in the middle of the night if you need him to. The women up front might be a little grouchy, but Joey seems to be a nice guy.

Joey Collins is great. I have always been pleased by the treatment that he gives my animals. As far as the girls at the front desk; I am sure that they do tire of our impatience and sometimes of the dumb questions that we may ask and they do get physically tired, but most of the time they are fine.

The wait time can be frustrating, but when you go to any kind of office where they don't take appointments you will usually have a long wait. If you go earlier in the morning or before school lets out (during the school year), the wait is usually shorter.

I think Joey's great. The tall guy's ok too. I'm not a big fan of the lady vet. There's one woman who works the front desk that is super nice. I don't know her name, but I do my best to deal with her when I go. They're just about your only choice for a vet around here. There's one on Town Mtn. Road. I went there once and the woman there was very rude and pretty much told me that they didn't have time to see my dog. I definitely wouldn't recommend them.
The only beef I have with Joey is that he wouldn't write a prescription for heart worm meds for me so I could order them cheaper on-line. He didn't want to lose any money. They also won't work with you where the bill is concerned. One time, the bill was much higher than I expected. I didn't have enough money and they told me that they would keep my dog until I paid the bill and would charge daily boarding fees. I had to go borrow the money from someone so I could get my dog back that day.

I like Joey as a vet. The staff up front could be better. (Only a few of them well one). I like the new male vet as much as I do Joey. The lady vet I am pretty sure she is still learning. I hope to God she gets better bless her heart. I know she really trys and you can plainly see her heart is in the right place but she has been known to misdiagnose. I like her as a person but not so much as a vet.

I don't like the girls at the front desk. Rude as hell. But Joey Collins has always been great. If you need him in the middle of the night, call him and leave a message and he checks every couple hours and always calls back. I was there with my cat a few years ago and she died on the table. About a week later, he sent me a sympathy card. Everytime I'm there, he's running back and forth trying to save a seizured dog or something. He cares. That's more than you can say about most people.

Well I travel all the way to prestonsburg and sometimes Morehead now just so that I will not have to go to Joey Collins. I have taken every dog that I have had throughout my life and for a while I just didn't like the treatment or the prices, but then I had a really sick dog one night and he had seen this same dog earlier that day. Well, I called and called, left messages, even drove down there. He did not respond and my dog ended up dying that night. The next day they did an examination to see what caused my baby boy to die, that cost me a large sum, then he discovered that my little boy had parvo. I had just taken him the previous day because something was wrong, but they just charged me a huge amount and said that he needed a new heart worm pill. Joey even admitted that it was his fault, but he did not care. You could tell it was nothing to him, he didn't even had the guts to apologize for overlooking the obvious! I took my dog to be examined by the vet in prestonsburg that same day after I was outraged by what they said and that vet discovered that it in fact wasn't parvo. My dog had been poisoned and the pburg vet pointed out the signs that Joey should have been able to see easily and they could have saved my baby boy by just giving him this medicine that counteracts the poison he was given! They don't care about anything but the money! I would rather waste gas than to let them see any of my animals for two seconds!!!!!! FU~CK Him and his shitty so-called veterinarian clinic! They should be closed for good especially since they allowed parvo to be spread to nearly 100 pets last year alone because they weren't sanitary!

Not tring to start anything but on other threads u seem to be praising the shelter.

To everyone else. I myself have not had any problems with Joey's, other than not getting a responce from the after hours # and my pet died in my arms. Found out later that there was an issue with the phones. I still take my pets there.

i was just trying to get more information on the shelter from other people. I do know that they are being run by a new lady and I have read several, several, posts bad mouthing the shelter. But i believe that all the bad posts were before her. But yours sound current. I do jump around a lot. Some time to prod and poke. Other times to hopefully find a more truthful answer.
My main goals and concerns are that the animals are taken care of.
I have volunteered there and the job does seem difficult. But only once. When I lived in Atlanta the shelter there was almost completely run by volunteers.
With all the probs that its having I would guarantee that if a bunch of people would go volunteer that the workers would be on their best behavior.
Maybe the lady was stressed the day she acted out on you.

All I ask is that you don't judge the animals by what the caretakers have done.
