Patrick, back in the 70's I was into ELO.
Now lately, seems as if I've been hearing a lot of them again.
Always loved the Bee Gees, that song I posted , I bought the 45 at Mr. Wiggs in Lexington. My sister made fun of me for buying it, she had purchased a Bobby Sherman 45 ("Easy Come, Easy Go")....now I ask you: which song will ppl remember, lol?
LOL! E.L.O. are awesome, MC. I remember going to the local skating rink as a kid in Louisville growing up and "Xanadu" and "Don't Bring Me Down" being popular skate songs there. I even have their remastered "Out Of The Blue" 1978 World Tour (filmed at U.K.'s Wembley Arena) on DVD now and it is great as well.

This Swedish Trio fluctuates between being a 3 piece and a 4 piece from doing what many bands do: Recording as a 3 piece yet touring as a 4. These guys are a really
rocking, sometimes psychedelic outfit and they're really good.

Hey MC, irony of ironies, man! On VH1C last night they had a new documentary about Jeff Lynne and ELO titled "Mr. Blue Sky" and it was great. It's an hour long biography of mainly Jeff Lynne but it's meant to advertise not only a new solo album he is releasing but a new ELO compilation (also titled Mr. Blue Sky) which is a collection of old ELO songs all newly recorded and modernized. The Doc had good interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh and many others. Jeff Lynne is also a highly revered Producer of course and apparently he produced the latest Joe Walsh lp "Analog Man". Check out our "Cover Songs" thread for a great ELO cover via Ace Frehley.

This Trio is a a truly legendary group but they've been highly overlooked here in the
U.S. for some tragic reason. Each member is an amazing musician and artist involved
with not only this band but solo efforts and other awesome projects. These guys have been doing this for nearly 30 years and definitely deserve recognition: KING'S X.

Oh man, I can't believe I have neglected one of my all-time favorite trios (originally they were yet later utilized 4 members and more in their line up) this long. These guys are one of the greatest American Rock bands EVER as this hit song attests to.

"We're An American Band" - Grand Funk Railroad

I've got an interesting story that relates to Grand Funk Railroad.. well more to it's mastermind Mark Farner actually. Farner eventually was "born again" and became a Christian in later years and was instrumental in witnessing to my former boss at the indie music store Rock & Roll Heaven where I worked in Pikeville. This resulted in "Ace" also becoming a Christian thanks to Mark Farner's powerful witness.

Although Mark Farner is no longer a part of the Grand Funk Railroad line-up, it's interesting that former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick is currently.

Although a pretty much unknown band to most, even metal fans, Boston's WARGASM were an underground staple of the Beantown music scene throughout the 80s and into the 90s. They eventually disbanded yet have the occasional reunion/benefit show and now hold a spot as an obscure yet "legendary" American metal band and
yes, they've always maintained a 3 piece line up.

Awesome, MC..the DVD is killer, I know that.

One of America's greatest Rock Legends has alternated his band over the years from a 3 piece trio to a four and even five piece unit at times: Ted Nugent. Here's his basic trio line up doing a classic of his live..

Oh man, that is a GREAT band and I had not thought of or even heard in awhile though, MC.

While I never was a fan of this band, I know a lot of people that were and of course I recall the big MTV-fueled craze about them. For their 3rd album "Pull" they whittled down to a trio and ditched much of their pop/commercial elements for a bit of an overall heavier sound and musical style.

The Texas Trio..it's a sound all of it's own. Just ask (or listen to) ZZ Top and these two trios that have taken that ZZ sound and doused it in gasoline and moonshine. Check out the dual Texas Two-Steppers...

These guys are true Metal Legends known around the world as a pioneering, influential act that are still out there in the trenches today. In fact, I finally saw them live for my first time just a year or so ago and felt it was great accomplishment that I can now say that I have seen NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) stalwarts RAVEN finally.

I'm not sure if I've heard that song before or not, MC..it doesn't strike me as being that familiar to me though. I have a Power Trio that it shocks me to see we may have overlooked until now because this group is pretty much where the term "Power Trio" was coined..
