Well, I love it here. We are a small community but we are growing each day. For example, a Hampton Inn was built just about 2yrs ago and a Hilton is currently builing one in town. We have an expo center that hosts concerts/events, etc.

Ive traveled quite a bit and am always happy to be back home.

Schools in the area: We have a college w/ medical school. Also, we have a community college in town. Also, about an hours drive we have a law school and pharmacy school in Va.

We have good hospital that provides allot of jobs.

So in my opinion, if I had my choice I wouldn't move, neigher would my wife. But my wife who is currently in Med. School, she will have to move in about 2yrs to finish her residency - so ill have no choice but to move but as soon as I can we will move back home.

Hey, I live in Pikeville and I am thriving and happy. Some people may say that the town sucks but it's all of what you make of it. Pikeville is a good place to raise kids just make sure that you pick the right spot to live and raise your kids.

This! Ive lived her for 6 years and my family and I love it. Its a nice little small town. Theres bad people and drugs EVERYWHERE. Be smart and stay away from troubled people and you will love it just as much as we do.

Pikeville use to be a wonderful town, But its changed a lot in the past 30 some years.
Back before the Cut-thru and the Blvd were created.
Back when the Metal Bridges and River was still around, And back when Hobbs dept store and many others were in business in town.
It was such a great place to live.
So simple and slow and country.

They have tried to turn pikeville into a miniature major city and the outcome is one big major flop.
I wonder if we might get lucky one day and they change it all back to the way it use to be.
This is Pikeville, Ky. Not Pike Vegas.

If any visitors come thru town, They need to be sure and stick there nose up in the air. That way they can fit in with about half the people that run this town no a days.

It used to be when we had all the stores downtown. People come downtown to shop and all the little resturants and cafe's it was nice.

Now all we got downtown is lawyers office and courthouses. Every pill freak in the county comes in when he comes to court and to get his/her lawyer! The place is a freaky place where all the ambulance chasing lawyers and the DUI layers are like magnets drawing in the scum of the county!

When the city takes over the EXPO we will pay through the nose in taxes to bail that money sucking pit out. They ruined a nice town!

Life is changing everywhere, not just Pikeville. Most people don't want to live in a community that is stuck in the sixties.

The one thing I've noticed since I've moved to pikeville is the housing is EXPENSIVE! Worse than when I lived in Chicago! The problem, there is no middle class here. People are either very wealthy or very poor, so those of us who are middle class have only one or two true neighborhoods to chose from. You can buy a nice house next to broken down trailers with yards filled with junk and trash for a decent price, but if you want to live in a nice neighborhood, you'd be paying $300K+ for a house that might go for $220K in Lexington. Don't get fooled by low average home costs you see online. Lots of run-down cheap houses and lots of very nice, very over-priced houses, but not much in between.

Insurance is also very expensive. For car insurance, we pay twice what we did in Lexington. Utilities, same thing.

Here is my opinion. I left Pikeville a while ago and I will NEVER move back! I have kids and I definitely do NOT want them raised there. The schools are not that great (I don't care what some say bc I went to a few of them) and there is nothing for the kids to do (which is why most get on drugs). AS for the expo center, it is shutting down. No one wants to come there and there is no funding for it. The hosital is a joke. I am, however, glad to see they have improved and the facility is nice, but its the same ole hospital it was before. And as far as hotels...who cares? Pikeville doesn't need them! The only time they really get used is hillbilly days. And also by the drug dealers/drug addicts who rent them. The town is overrun with drugs, and yes I'm aware that other cities are too, but Pikeville is by far the worst. There is nothing there to help those people either. Maybe if there was some kind of treatment, we wouldn't have all the people on drugs. And somethin they can afford (considering most people do not have insurance). ONe thing that really kills me is the people that are there now. They need to realize that they are NOT the only people in the world. They act as if their sh*t don't stink when we all know it does. If they were to move out of there, the story would be totally different. THey wouldn't mean sh*t or be sh*t in another place (which is why they hang around PIkeville--to be somebody lol). THats one reason I wouldn't want my kids going to school there. Unless your daddy is a lawyer or doctor, or you are rich, you are a nobody in school and are bullied (by other kids AND teachers). But there are also some great people still living there. Get out while you can! There are NO jobs and everyone IS in everyone else's business. You fart and everyone in the whole county has to know about it. ANd one more thing I wanted to address...someone said somethin about restaraunts? Umm, all they keep putting in are fast food places. Wow. Pike County needs help. All most people do is draw checks, food stamps, and anything else they can. And quite frankly, I don't blame them. Thats what they are used to and all they have (bc of the job situation). SO, in my mind, as well as many others, it is NOT a good idea to live there.

I agree with this as well. Car insurance is ridiculous when you live there. Here in central KY I pay half of what I was paying living in Pikeville. ANd power bills are high as well. Actually, all bills are higher lol. And I'm sick of the lawmakers being paid off too. That city just isn't right. SOmeone needs to come in and knock people off the pedestals they THINK they are on. Like I said before, if they were to move out of Pikeville, they would be nothing anywhere else. There is nothing there and whoever says there is must've came from a super small town like Nonesuch, Ky. I feel sorry for the people who are stuck there. And the drug thing just gets all over me. Yes, other towns my have drugs, but Pikeville is the WORST! You can get anything you need as easy as snapping yuor fingers. Parents are naive if they really believe their kids are not doing drugs, or never experienced them, because most are. Please parents, don't be naive. There is nothing else for your kids to do except go to the movies, go to walmart, and do drugs/drink. And also, make sure your children are not being bullied in school. It can lead to bad things and most of the time the child won't tell you that they are being bullied. Like I said before, unless your parents are a doctor or lawyer, or have a bunch of money, you will be bullied. BUt anyway, I just advise anyone to move out. Don't keep up a town/county, who doesn't care to help you. All that town wants is for people to give up money for it.

Sure is a good thing that you don't have to live here anymore. By the way, no one misses you and your negative attitude.

Wait until the city takes over the EXPO and all that debt! Your city taxes are going higher to pay for that loser, plus the resturants will get hit with higher tax. People will dodge Pikeville and go on down the road to eat.

I bet they stick it on the couty property tax bill also, just like the library tax. Stock up on the vaseline, here it comes!
