The New Air Service

For the life of me I can't understand all these negative post on here attacking the New Air Service and Pikeville City Council. The only purpose of a functioning airport to me would be an Air Service for the general population. Why would we need an Air Port just for private parties and the occasional commercial related flight. It seems that anything that is ever constructive and useful to the county as a whole is attacked and become a political dogfight.
Why in the hell would we want to spend the money, time and effort on building an Airport without having an Air Service "commuter hub" for the general population. I have witnessed all the attacks before on the same individuals having their private plains up their and the Airport being mainly for a chosen few. Then when they work to bring in an Air Service "make if a full service airport" they are attacked repeatedly and continuously on a damned gossip blog. Damned it you do and damned it you don't! Political rivalry and politics trying to destroy the Air Service before it even gets off the ground.
And people wonder why we never have anything in Pike County?

Not the propaganda.
Its not that so many are against the air service it is the fact that so many are against how it came to pass.
Do you know that a airport board member is bound by rules and limits of what they can or cannot do by the FAA and rules governing REVENUE DIVERSION.
And how can a board member vote on a service that he has ZERO knowledge of and only had a contract in their hands just hours before the vote? Take a moment and request the minutes of your airport board for the last year and please tell me the details you find out about this air service. Then the day before the vote the board is informed of a special called meeting to vote and not even a final contract to view or consult with the FAA to find out if it constitutes REVENUE DIVERSION. Add to that the fact that the city had a contract attached to the airport contract and I am told the airport board members were not presented with that contract before the vote.
Now just spend a little time researching REVENUE DIVERSION and tell me you position in the above situation.
Why not allow the airport board members time to research and consult with FAA attorneys about those matters?
And why is Schmitt not telling the public about the baggage issues as of ribbon cutting day? Why isn't the chairman or the city manager telling the public about the baggage issues as of ribbon cutting day? This is the stuff that reasonable council members, airport board members, newspaper and general public would ask if they were concerned or had time to ask.
So if you want to know the facts just show up at a airport board meeting and make up your own mind.

Just saying for something like this to work all branches of government has to be pulling for it. Not only that in a depressed economy both sides should be working in the first year of operation to fix any problems that may occur. It is not about the city council, it is not about the fiscal court. It is about elected representatives working together for the betterment of the people, not fighting over turf and these damn senseless political rivalries. I tell you, people as they see this region deteriorate, see the coal economy go away and still see this stupid infighting going on as the place crashes down around our ears, are getting Fed Up! At both damn sides!
If you guys think you can keep going tit for tat and everybody will come out unscathed you are bad mistaken. There will be a political price to pay for this in the near future, people are getting tired of the politics and the infighting as the economy goes to hell in a hand basket. Somebody needs to take the high road here and heal this rift between the city and the fiscal court. Then everybody needs to get their people under control. As you guys cut each other up there will be blood on the floor, nobody will walk away from this a winner. Pike County is maturing in a political sense, in better times this stuff may have been fun but in times as we are in now, nobody is laughing. Take your business off the street, get behind closed doors and work this thing out. Everybody needs to quit airing their beefs in public, ratchet down the rhetoric and get together like men and fix this thing. I don't have any dogs in this fight or am pulling for either side. As a neutral party from where I sit, it all stinks and now has become a wasted non productive effort. Thing is everybody else is seeing what I'm seeing, settle it and lets start trying to put this county and city back together and be able to tolerate each other at least and work together.

Revenue Diversion puts airport board members at risk.
And if the rush to vote the service through without one word of discussion in a board meeting created that revenue diversion then everyone should have asked for more time to be informed.
It's not a vote against the service. It's a vote against being subject to revenue diversion. And I suggest the city council and chamber if snoots would not be responsible as the board members will be.
That's not politics or obstructionist but just conducting above the board activities.

I also question why a board member voted for the the deal when he has millions of dollars in dealings with the city and county.
I question why more inquiry isn't made about the association of the board chairman the contractor and the Vice President of the contractors firm. Two of the aforementioned work at the jones law office.

everthang went to hell when the palace closed down, brang back the rednecks, the pabst blue ribbon beer, and white socks too. I sure miss the days when I could come out of the holler and get my holler boogie on. back in those days I didn't need no stanking plane to fly, I stayed so high I was always above the clouds looking down.

Then with your position you would close hundreds and hundreds of local airports all over the country. I suppose you would also get rid of all the Mercedes, BMW, Lexus etc automobiles because the chosen few own them. Then why not get rid of the fancy restaurants and clothing stores that cater to the "chosen few".
Do you have a clue of the makeup of the aircraft owners at the local airport? If you do you would not have chosen such words as you have. Yes there is some that have been fortunate in life and are occupants. But included in that bunch is a everyday underground coal miner, several retired everyday working men, a flight instructor just to name a few. So please don't dig your hole any deeper. General Aviation plays a huge role in community development as well commercial.
Talking Commercial and how you allude to those fighting it. It has been explained here so many times but I will again attempt to offer you some information.
The Pikeville/Pike County Airport is restricted to what it can do by its acceptance of Federal money. In essence the airbord has a partner in the airport. And that partner expects the board to conduct business and make deals that are fair and above board. And if the board does not adhere to that then the FAA cuts the grant money off and will be questioning some people.
I understand that not a single discussion of the details or contract for this airservice was made in a airport board setting. I understand the first mention of the airservice vote was the day before and not in a called meeting. In addition I understand a final contract was not presented for review to a board member until after business hours on the day before the vote. Thus no time to seek Federal legal assistance on the contract and if it possibly constituted Revenue Diversion. The city had a contract included in the airport contract and I understand that the airport contract was not presented to the airport board members as I am told. And then how could anyone responsible vote for something that was done in this manner? No one asked the dissenting board member why he voted no. No one asked the board member how he would vote if there was clear approval from the FAA that no Revenue Diversion was created by the two contracts. I have and his answer was he would support it.
But all to often those in power wish to convict without a trial. They use their clout with the local press to support their position and crush any opposing voice. And for that reason so many good private citizens shy away from serving the public. And I suppose that is exactly the way the power hounds like it.

I personally know there are many airplanes that old and older that still fly. I also know that those planes are carefully looked after and loved by their owners.
However, we're not talking about a private plane here. We're talking about one like the fire fighting water dropper I watched a video of as an entire wing broke off in flight AFTER it had dumped its load. And I am talking about another that was filmed just off the East coast of Florida as the entire wing broke off in flight. No one survived any crash ever after the plane lost a control part of itself in midair.
Metal fatigue is real and is extremely prominent in old airplanes, especially the wings. But does anyone remember the airliner losing most of its skin trying to get to Hawaii? Why does anyone not understand why so many airplanes fall out of the sky in pieces?
One particular aircraft builder, Dehavilland, has a time limitation on its Twin Otter wings and they are exchanged after so many hours and BEFORE they break off in flight. Just give some thought to that fact.
I'm not at all afraid of a 70 year old airplane if I know the plane and I know who has rebuilt it. I am VERY scared of a plane that is pushed into service to make more money such as most, if not all, these so called commercial carriers.
Be afraid folks, be very afraid! No amount of money will ever get me off the ground in such a plane and, more importantly because, I am an experienced pilot.
