I was just curious as to when the 2 new restaurants are going to be opening in town? There's one across from movies and one beside News Express that appears to be under construction, but still haven't gotten official word on opening dates of either one. I work close by, but the people I work with aren't quite sure either. Only thing I've heard is possibly end of March, but looks like they have a lot of work to do to pull that off, so.

Anyway, I know one of them will be a pub type place and the other is fine dining near the News Express...I think Mitch Potter owns that one. I guess we'll see if they can compete with each other. It's exciting for all the new restaurants we have here now! Now, if Pikeville can just bring some excitement, entertainment and shopping downtown, more stuff might come back downtown. Just sayin.

Yeah, we'll see if the people around here will pay those types of prices! I think it'll back fire on them if they think people will pay that here. The majority of people around here don't want a super expensive restaurant! Oh where are people going to park downtown to eat at these places during the day? I give them a couple of months each!

What about that Japanese that everybody is flocking to? I won't even go there from the prices I hear people are paying them. I like good food but I also work too hard for my money to spend a couple day's pay on one meal.

I would pay top dollar for great food in a fine dining restaurant. I just don't know that either of these two new places will be that until they open. So, we will see. It's nice that Pikeville is getting so many new restaurants and growing up now. Let's just hope Pikeville finally brings us some entertainment along with these new dining establishments as well. I sure know we pay a lot of taxes in Pikeville, so let's see the tax dollars actually be used for good, instead of lining all the politicians pockets as they are now! I do seem to recall some restaurant tax and expo center tax that was passed not too long ago. Is this where the money is going? I don't seem to be seeing to many new shows at the expo coming here?

I think they're trying to get open definitely before Hillbilly Days. They know they will rack up lots of money with all the people that will be in town at that time! That's probably the goal they're shooting for. Makes sense to me!

I don't even know what that is in relation to? When the restaurants will be opening, or if Pikeville will be bringing downtown entertainment and stores back in????

both
and even if they do open or even if they bring new stores, etc, downtown, they wont stay open long, there is nothing down town to support them, save the theater and this new play house they plan to open, there is a rowdy crowd
Do not see rowdy downtown

I think the crowd and type of people in town are probably more business and office type people wouldn't you say? I would think the rowdy type of people and check drawers would hang around Walmart and the restaurants around there. Just from what I've seen and experienced. Maybe if there were good shows and some entertainment then maybe a restaurant could actually survive in downtown! Yeah I don't see them lasting long either without a draw to bring people in town besides a good movie or a really good concert!

If these places expect to make it they better offer freebies as soon as we sit down if they want my family's business! I expect low prices with lots of food and great service. In this economy and with gas prices the way they are they should be happy I'm dining with them and even eating their food in the 1st place!!!

Everybody expects low prices...I just find it hard to believe so many people don't understand fine dining. Go to McDonalds if you want low prices. The Japanese restaurant...I went there when I was home and got out of there after paying 88 dollars. It was great. In Louisville...the same restaurant...it would have been over a hundred easy. Fine dining comes with higher prices...but..usually it's worth it. Usually..there are duds out there. Generally, it is hard to take a whole family to a fine dining establishment...because the bill will be high. But taking a date or your spouse to a place like that...it's a pretty good thing. Now a pub...I expect good food..decent prices..and good entertainment or sports on the screens. Just my opinion.

so, r u saying that only high priced establishments serve decent food? because i have eaten at the chinese restaurant, and i didnt find it any better dining than maybe, golden corral.....i had a very nice meal at the pine mt. grill in whitesburg recently and it was under 35 dollars, for two, and that included salad, soup and a tip.....

It all depends on what you order at these places! You don't have to order the most expensive things on the menus at these places and still have good food and a great dining experience! Everybody just looks at the most expensive item on the menu and decides they can't afford to eat there. I eat at some of the nicer restaurants around here and places in Lexington and Huntington that many would consider 'fine dining' and I don't pay an arm and a leg unless I so choose. They usually have lower priced items on the menu. Sometimes I just order an appetizer and a drink and walk out for about $10. Sometimes people are really clueless or just trying to start drama! If you don't want to eat at these places, stay home and cook or hit the drive-thru at Taco Bell! I'm sure everyone involved will appreciate it.

When it comes down to it the city manager and its leaders are keeping people from wanting to invest downtown or far as that goes in town, its tax after tax after tax and yes it mostly goes to pay for the expo now is that a fair shake for those small business that wants to put in a place in pikeville? Prestonsburg and Paintsville and even Harold (lol) is looking better all the time. Here is my last point, take a drive downtown and look and count the empyt stores and then Donovan tell me we are growing?
