Members of the State Medical Licensure Board say they are trying to stop prescription pill abuse in Kentucky.
House Speaker Greg Stumbo (D-Prestonsburg) is accusing the board of not using KASPER to determine which doctors are "over-prescribing" pills and stopping them.
Rep. Stumbo is requesting all of the board's KASPER documents.
Friday, Board President, Dr. Preston Nunnelley, said they will give Rep. Stumbo all of the documents and says they are doing all they can with KASPER.
"We can't just specifically look up doctors unless we have an identified reason, so Representative Stumbo feels like that is open to us to use as we see fit. We don't interpret the statute that way. If it's that way, great, and we're in favor of that and we'll work with it," he said.
Dr. Nunnelley says they are meeting with state officials to develop a plan to deal with doctors who are "over-prescribing." He says the Board of Medical Licensure is committed to fighting prescription pill abuse in Kentucky.

Finally...instead of concentrating on eliminating coal mining in this area, we should be going after the pills. This is what's killing our people.
