It is different if they are on housing... no, a landlord does not have to accept housing, but any landlord who doesn't, most likely wouldn't be able to pass the mass criteria in order to get approved by the housing authority. No, I wouldn't want to rent to someone who has no income, but I sure wouldn't post on the internet that I wouldn't rent to someone b/c they are drawing a check, or b/c they are unmarried with children... that is all I am saying.
That is not what I said. You need to read again.

All the poster said was that they "wouldn't rent to someone who didn't have a job." They just mentioned the having children without being married and being on the draw; and it was not in regard to not renting to them.

And as far as passing housing authority guidelines. I have seem some incredible dumps that have passed; places that most people would not live in at all. Of course the landlords still got the rent from the government for substandard housing.

I'm sorry, I totally disagree with this. What do you do after you have packed up your family and moved over 100 miles away, only to find that there is no work to be found there either? That is exactly what we did... after 8 months of no luck finding work after my husband was laid off and 2 months after being laid off myself, we took what was left of our savings to move to a bigger area... and guess what? After 3 months of being here, there is still no jobs. You can't tell me that signing up for any assistance that a person can qualify for in this situation isn't acceptable. We used our savings to get where we are... we can't very well pack up and move again. Times are getting bad... they have been for a while now. Maybe it is shamefull for you to stand in a welfare line, but we have 2 small children and I refuse to let them go without food and necessities. My husband and I are not lazy people who just don't want to work... we are both college graduates and that seems to be hurting us in our search for jobs these days... I'm telling you now... Walmart, McDonald's, Chevron... these places will not hire you with a Master's Degree! They will sure look at you like you're an idiot for wasting time to fill out their application and snicker as you walk out the door!!!
Great response. People who have been out there looking for a job knows there are none. You are right no one is going to hire you at $8:00 if you have a Masters. I would not let my children go without either. I pay many thousands of dollars a year to tax. I would rather see my tax money being used on families like yours as some convention in Washington.

Thanks... I appreciate that. We too have paid in thousands of dollars for years on taxes and before I let my children and family go without, I'd find a way to draw any check I could, sign up for food stamps, and take up a medical card! And I wouldn't think twice about it when someone claimed to know my situation and call me trashy, lazy, or sorry. No one really knows what anyone else is going through unless they have walked a mile in the shoes of that person. Thanks again!

I receive a disability check d/t a mental condition that is just as bad as a physical condition. I truely wanted and anticipated working several more yrs. I had to trade a much bigger pay check for the ss check. Believe me its not something I wanted to do and is no fun. My whole life style has changed. To get to the point I have previouly worked many yrs. and therefore, have paid much money into the ss fund. I am only getting back what I have paid in. Does it bother anyone this bad that our government spends and waste millions of dollars on stupid studies/experiments, saves large american corporations from bankruptcy, and rebuilds other countries with our tax dollars. So no you will not make me feel quilty or ashamed for receiving money back which I paid in. Maybe you should vent your anger on our wasteful government instead of the little person who does what it takes to survive in this economic deprived area. Do you have any family on ss?

It pisses me off especially around tax time. I had to let the government take about 7,000 of my income last year not to mention 3,600 i had to pay for my medical insurance. Then there are people not striking a lick at anything all year except to get up and start their day buy trying to find a pill. Then what do you know the government takes my 7,000 dollars and gives me back a whopping 230.00 and gives them the rest because they got a house full of kids, paid medical care, on housing drawing a check, sh!t load of foodstamps to buy pop to sell for drugs and cigarettes. He!! if i broke it down they would have more discretionary income than i have.

I have no problem with people that have legitimate, verified problems making them eligible for Assistance Programs. That said though, most all of us know that there is a "Draw Mentality" around these parts and
now gripping most of the nation. People here at home are raised with generation after generation receiving Welfare and it becomes their life dream to obtain a check (aka "free money"). Unfortunately this type of mindset has spread and flourished within America and now we have a President that's doing his best to feed these ways of deadbeat thinking. It's draining and depleting our financial
resources and ultimately hurting us all in the long run. America is teetering
on the brink of total bankruptcy now as it is.
