Does anyone know anything about the accident in Pikeville? I heard a child was seriously injured, maybe killed? Not asking for names, but vehicles? I want to make sure my friends are okay.

It was a baseball league team cookout/swim party that the boy was a part of. There were other 5, 6, 7 year old little kids that witnessed this. So tragic!

I realize that accidents happen, but how on earth did this happen in daylight with adults around? This is just so sad and maybe this summer parents will keep extra eyes on their children around water.

Yes accidents happen. But with all the people around, how on Earth did this happen? Someone had to see him go in the pool. Just really sad for the family. Big reminder, it's never too early to put your child in swimming lessons. My heart does go out to the young boy's family. May God hold and comfort them through this trying terrible time.

I know the family, they are wonderful people. Please pray for all the families involved in this tragedy.

if someone puts their purse or wallet down they'll guard it like their life depends on it. they won't blink an eyelash until they pick it back up. if they move five feet away from it they'll watch over their shoulder to make sure some thief does not pick it up and run off. same with their money, jewelry or phone as if they're irreplaceable but not when it comes to children around dangerous things like deep water or letting them wander alone in a store or near a busy street. you should keep your eye on deep water when kids are around it the same way you would if you left your purse or wallet down around a bunch of strangers or someone you didn't trust.

If you weren't there you don't know what happened; so quit passing judgment.

Someone's child has died. Be respectful.

No one was paying attention. Drowning is life threatining but when rescued earlier CPR usually works. The boy had to have been in the water for a long time before anyone noticed.

it just honestly makes me angry please. I debated on even typing what I did but I can't help feeling this way. I see it everyday and I agree with neighbor. I was thinking the same thing. was the lack of attention so bad that it took a while for someone to even notice? I can't help but think the same thing. I honestly do care. it bothers me and it makes me angry because I see people everyday that let their kids or a child under their care wander around alone where they shouldn't be, play in junk heaps with metal jutting out of the ground, wondering around swimming pools. walking alone in stores while they're mentally a million miles away shopping. not holding a small child's hand while they are walking in the parking lot while they're distraced on a goddamn cell phone. playing in or near the street and people never learn.

You weren't there either so you don't know what you are talking about. Be respectful.

distracted on a cell phone... people seem to care more for material things than children. when you plan a pool party certain able bodied adults outta have one job. watching that pool. not cooking on the grill, not off in another part of the property talking to each other or setting out plates or whatever other distraction. there outta be able bodied adults that can swim watching the pool, deep and shallow end. number one job, watch that pool. when people are walking across a busy parking lot you put your phone in your pocket and you hold your baby's hand. when you live near a street get out there and watch your kids. also parents buying their kids stuff that they're not old enough for and turning them lose on it like fourwheelers unsupervised. I know people that have yards when sharp metal laying everywhere that are too lazy to pick the shit up and let their small kids climb all over the junk while they're in the house doing god knows what. I'm honestly sick of seeing it. I aint saying that's what happened here, but that's what happens every day all the time.

just stop!!!
stop placing the blame and finger pointing, you were not there, you do not know what happened.
how many of us have been to family or school gatherings, where the children ran around playing, did you keep your eye on them at every second???
if you say you did, you are lying.
only the people who were there know what happened and its possible for a small child to drown quickly, maybe the parents werent watching closely because he wasnt supposed to be near the pool.
i am only speculating because i also wasnt there.
the baby is dead and the parents you can damn well bet are in deep pain and grief.
so stop your finger pointing and acting better and holier than thou.
in a controlled environment where families are gathered and children are playing, no one thinks something like this will happen.
accidents happen and sometimes we just dont understand, all you who are saying you are praying, if you are a christian then you must believe it was gods plan so stop judging.

This is a terrible tragedy ! I am a nurse and I remember an instructor saying in class that small children are very much more susceptible to drowning because they sometimes play too long in the water having fun and become exhausted and it causes reactions on the cellular level, and when they suddenly have a problem they are too exhausted and the body is depleted drowning happens very fast. It is not the same as we think of drowning as if there was time to have been saved. It is unusual but it does happen. God Bless all the family and others who witnessed this accident.
