You hillbillies make me laugh! When things are good you are masters of your own domain. When things are bad its the boogey man that did it. It reminds me of the middle ages blaming witchcraft.

Its really quite simple. Eastern Kentucky has been high on coal since the 1950's. Never once trying to diversify its economy. For example Sprint, ACS, and AT&T are running away. It's funny I owned a boost phone and when I would talk to the Pikeville Call Center it was apparent. Dragging out the vowel's in every word. You look around and see everyone else acting the same and figure hey its how it is. When in reality its not.

Its really quite simple. Fracking rock to extract natural gas has become cheaper than coal. Combined with the EPA (which was created in 1970) enforcing new laws about carbon emission. coal is the dirtiest and natural gas isn't. Next, China's economy is the number one buyer of eastern kentucky coal and their economy is suffering because of Europe's slow down. China can't survive on its own its a export country. Where do you think the coal goes when it gets to Norfolk Virginia?

So to sum it up the world has moved on and eastern kentucky is being left behind. You are reaping what you sow for not diversifying your economy and you can blame your politicians for it. That means you Wayne T. because the train is a leaving.

Yea, ole Wayne is a real loser, he didn't get his 1% occupation tax but if he had no one will have a job to pay it...lol
His best example of progress is that 10,000,000 dollar hole in the ground up at Douglas Park. A reverse Midas touch, everything he touches turns to crap. Well let's see if some of them long winded speeches he is famous for put food on the table or brings any coal jobs back. We have fossil head politicians, old incompetent and destroying the place for who ever will be left after the great exodus out of here.

Ghost Town

It will be like a ghost town around here when the mines shut down. About like the old Western towns when the silver played out. A few school board jobs and state and county jobs, mostly retired and welfare to sustain the area. Hard times ahead with no where to go for the ones that want to leave. We should have diversified 40 years ago, all our eggs in one coal bucket!

please explain your reasoning?
for people who live in homes or apartments that do not have wood burning fire places/
are you suggesting everyone remove their electric furnaces and begin to use firewood to heat with?
ok, now explain to the same environmentalists who have pushed for regulations to help end coalmining, that you are now going to begin stripping down all the trees.
this is what is going to be blamed for the flooding in colorado.
my suggestion there is, stop building highways on the sides of mountains and over rivers.

To late to cry about your situation after you hit the ice burg. Anything the blow hard politicians will do now will be as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. We staked our future on dinosaur s#*t and then stepped in it.
We had one last chance when they initiated the Coal Severance Tax, a tax meant to go tward the creation of non coal jobs "diversify" for a time when the coal industry went away, "as in right now"
The politicians over the last 30 years have wasted the coal severance and blown the money on everything but what is was set up for. I hope the Wayne train has enough cars to haul all your asses out of here because it is going to look like a scene from the Grapes of Wrath during the dust bowl era. It's over, the handwriting has been on the wall since 08 but the whole region has been in denial. Hard times in the neighborhood boys and girls, all the easy coal is gone, several area's are mining it cheaper, EPA has been sic'd on ya and natural gas burns cleaner and is cheaper. The perfect storm of destruction for the eastern coal industry. There ain't enough life rafts for everybody and the ones that survive are going to be taxed to death to keep the sorry azz politicians political machine and lifestyle going.
Please
