Our town has lost a great asset. Mayfield Pennington loved to help our kids, he helped many.

Mayfield, may you rest easy and get the rewards you deserved in that ring on the other side. Thank you for all you did for our kids.

I'm impressed with the man, Mayfield, and didn't ever meet him. He must have been what this area needs desperately. I loved boxing when I was younger.
His kind of man probably walked with the charisma and air of one who knew where he was going. I also feel a loss for his friends, family and the entire community.
The boxing profession has raised many young men from the depths of depression and hopelessness. His mentoring was priceless. Why do the truely good ones go away so young?
..R.I.P. Mayfield Pennington.

I like many others knew what a good man mayfield was, I seen him open his doors to complete strangers, give them a key to his gym or a place to stay and food to eat if they needed it. If people could not afford to train he wouldn't turn them away, or if someone just needed advice he would sit down and talk with them. Truly a great person that will be missed by many.

i was in court one day with a friend when he came in over a young man who had caused problems at his gym
he told the judge that he just wanted to make sure the young man didnt go to jail but that he wanted to see to it that the young man got some help or anger management or something to help him
he told the judge he just didnt want the man around his gym causing trouble for the ones who were in there to work hard and stay out of trouble.

Breaks my heart that Mayfield has passed. A man who truly cared for others. A man who had seen and been discriminated in this town in his youth. He rose above all that & still came back to help. When I met him for the 1st time he had just opened his gym. He invited me in, my child & I. Told me about his mission. To help get the youth off of drugs, off the streets. Give them hope & something positive. Later I found Mayfield to be a mentor. He gave me some good advice & friendship, when not many others cared. God's garden is very busy right now, cause that man had spirit. RIP my friend.

Heartbreaking! How I wish this wasn't true. My son was riduculed at school and called a skank daily. My son is just a lil awkward. Mayfield took him and built his esteem so high. Mayfield listened to him cry and would put his arms around my son and tell him he was a strong kid and he wasn't going to let anyone get him down.

Mayfield was a wonderful man and cared for others so much! No matter what tragedy was going on with him or yourself he was always thankful to God and reminded everyone daily that "God is Good"! Rest In Peace my dear dear friend! You are loved and missed dearly!
