There have been quite a few players from PHS play college ball. I don't know about earlier years but the ones I know of are:
Josh Shofner-UK
Ben Scott-Clinche Valley College?
Adam Hall-Pikeville
Chad Roberts-Georgetown/Pikeville
Noah Batten-Pikeville
John Mims-Pikeville
Josh May-St. Catherine
Nick Roberts-Georgetown
Jamie Anderson-Georgetown
Chris Adkins-St. Catherine
Jarrod Frasure-Alice Lloyd
Ryan Mccoy-Pikeville
I'm sure there are many more

First to begin my argument let me make a few things clear for you guys. 1.) Chase Huffman no longer pitches for morehead he pitches at Pikeville College. 2.) Hunter Smith who couldn't cut it in college no longer plays and I also saw him with my own eyes and I wasn't impressed at all slow hands, no crow hop from the outfield, and drugged out. 3.) Josh Adams was a good player who never had coaching his entire career because he choose to stay in this area. 4.) The reason I said no coaching in this area is because the majority of coaches in this area didn't play at a higher level and only played high school in this area.......... which if you played other teams in others states you would realize the level here is far below everywhere else. I have alot of friends on the baseball team from other places in the United States and they tell me they laugh when they watch HS games in this area. For example you don't even take baseball serious your little league's grass is up to my knees at the YMCA that's ridiculous. One of your High Schools has a full grass field now because they don't have a coach who's ever played (SHELBY VALLEY) So the level here is not good and i'm not the only one to say this. I have seen Harmon play and the best he could go to is Alice Lloyd who gets everyone from the 14th and 15th region and look were that gets them absolutely no where.

Who were the best players to play for Johns Creek. When they were a high school, they had some good teams.

Pikeville has always had some players, but to crown Harmon king is the most laughable thing you could do. Obviously you are from the age group that is still enrolled at PHS or have just recently done so. If not then you would know Pikeville baseball is about the worst it has been in years, possibly ever. I didn't even attend Pikeville, but other than JC and Paintsville they are the epitime of 15th Region Baseball.

I think everybody has pretty much been covered as far as those far and away better than Harmon, but there is probably still some left out. In my opinion, I'd even take a Jared Frassure anyday over Harmon, I guarantee Fraze would be the better hitter.

read my lips ALL PLAYERS IN THIS AREA ARE HORRIBLE you think they are going to get drafted when they are hitting off pitchers throwing around 74 to 75 and don't say they are throwing harder I have worked showcases in this area and I have read the guns daddy is telling all the coaches and scouts that junior is throwing 88 to 91 when in reality its 82 to 84. WAKE THE HECK UP

yes, Kenny Smalls was an excellent athlete. Baseball and boxing. He, in fact, did have a major league arm. As far as the guy called "TOOMS" on here claiming "Baseball in this area is a joke". Well, it's not a joke to me or to the many kids grew up playing here. You say, "the grass grows up to your knees" at the little league field and "there is no coaches who know anything". Why don't you volunteer to coach or cut the grass? Attitudes like yours are why things are the way they are. This community could have as good as baseball talent anywhere else if people didn't share the poor attitude you seem to have. Kids in this area are like sponges and would learn if the adults would volunteer to teach and help.

I played college, and I played semi-pro, so baseball in this area isn't a joke. As far as I'm concerned, HArmon was a decent player, but nowhere near the best ever at PHS. Matt Coleman, Terry Wright, Andrew Joyce, John Venters (the dad, not the current MLB pitcher), et al were all better. There was one poster on here who talked about coaches running off good players at the expense of playing suckup parent's kids, that poster wasn't lying. The worst one was Cutright. Good coach as far as knowledge, but absolutely horrible, blatantly seeking favors to play people. Here's hoping the current coach has the smarts not to ruin the good core he has now, they just made a run to the state Final 4 with basically two good pitchers. Got a couple other potentials if he spends some time developing them

I guess you feel pretty stupid since Pikeville just made a run deeper in the State Tournament than they ever had?

By the way Matt Coleman was the Ace on a UK Team that made it to the College World Series.

JP Blair was a man among boys. By far the best of his age group for years before and after. He looked, threw and batted like a pro ball player when he was a Senior. Then he went astray. Too bad Jimmy let him get away.

J.P. is a good guy and deserves full credit for his HS athletic career. I know he is very involved in the family business and doing well from all I know. Bible says, "Judge not less thou be judged."

from long ago one of jimmy blair's friends.

C. J. May played for pikeville college, i even played ONE game with him in college went 3 for 4 with 6rbi's.

i hadnt played baseball since little league for the same reason given here, the experience of seeing favored kids get all the chances and being not picked for the all star team, i continued basketball where i was so good even politics couldnt keep me off the team.

i was among the best athletes ever at PHS, with a 44 inch vertical jump.

also the records are a bit off, i had 32 rebounds in a game against betsy layne, the next game after a 49 point 25 rebound effort against warfield, both when i was a junior.

also played against seniors much older than i and was already playing in junior college when i was 17.

Bill T you`re full of it... 44inch vertical leap my ASS! I played against Warfield and Joe Stepp when he lead the state in scoring, what year did you play at Pike High?

1969 and indeed my jump wasnt quite that high when i was 17 later when my body matured and i played at pikeville college then it was 44.

joe was soph the year we played, and the williamson daily news had the caption are the nets still hanging? pikevilles taylor outscores warfields stepp 49-42.

2 players in the region could rebound with me, mike castle of johnson central and eugene lyons of johns creek both were older and much heavier than my 165 pounds.

and the other thing i stated about politics and favoritism, the fact is i am NOT in the PHS hall of fame.

also i had 3 coaches in the last 2 years at phs, john lee butcher, c p mims and wayne martin.

IF you played at the time dont hold me blocking your shots against me now...lol

i made a huge mistake there it wasnt joe stepp in the headline and he was probably a freshman, it was ken maynard that scored those for warfield.
