Not the Debt but the Deficit Spending (deficit is what you posted) is half of what it was under Bush. The numbers are from the Congressional Budget Office. Also it should be noted that the record spending CUTS is second only to a time after the end of WWII. So yes, Obama has cut spending in half and has done it in record time. I know you haters don't like the truth but there it is.

.
The deficit peaked at $1.4 trillion in 2009, which spanned the end of President George W. Bush’s tenure and the beginning of Mr. Obama’s, and that record was followed by deficits of $1.3 trillion in 2010 and 2011 and $1.1 trillion in 2012. But this year’s deficit is projected to be less than $700 billion.

In one sentence Obama and Kerry demand that Iran compromise in their talks with the USA...or else! Bet on Obama to win shutdown fight

(CNN)-- As Washington hurtles toward a government shutdown, the go-to move for the uninformed is to blame both sides equally. Just say, "A pox on both their houses," and you can get through any neighborhood barbecue or TV talk show.

But what if you really want to know what's happening? There are three metrics you should track if you want to know who will come out ahead in a government shutdown:

Which side is more united?

One of President Clinton's laws of politics is: "Democrats want to fall in love, Republicans just want to fall in line." Which is what makes the GOP fratricide so interesting.

Savaging your colleagues, undermining your leaders, backbiting and backstabbing -- these are usually Democratic specialties. But not now.

Credit the strong leadership of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid with keeping a remarkably diverse Democratic Congress together. When you can keep a strong conservative like Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia on the same page with the powerfully progressive Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, you are definitely winning.

Meanwhile, the GOP, whose members range from conservative to ultraconservative, is at war with itself and its leaders. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas led the fight on the Senate floor to block consideration of the funding bill. But after a pointless 21-hour talkathon, the majority of his GOP colleagues rejected Cruz's strategy. Senate Republicans split badly and bitterly; 25 voted against Cruz while just 19 voted with him.

In the House, it is chaos. The Neanderthals are fighting the Cro-Magnons and the Homo erectus tough guys are fighting the australopithecines.

Which side is more mainstream?

A majority of voters don't like the Affordable Care Act -- although that's a bit misleading, because a percentage of them dislike it because they think it doesn't go far enough.

Which side is more reasonable?

It is hard to seem reasonable when you are pursuing a strategy that even conservative Republicans like Sen. Richard Burr called "the dumbest idea I've ever heard of." Keep in mind this is from a man who represents North Carolina, where the Republicans proposed a law barring federal courts from interpreting the Constitution, and allowing the North Carolina Legislature to declare a state religion.(Which might have passed had they chosen the right religion for the Tarheel State: college basketball.)

Of course, nothing is certain in life. But if I were a betting man, I'd bet on President Obama and the Democrats in this fight. As long as Republicans appear more divided, more extreme and more unreasonable, they are going to lose. And then they will look weak as well.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/29/opinion/begala-...

My money is on the President and Democrats too.

NRA Lobbyist Who Killed An Elephant And Called His Critics Nazis Gets His Show Cancelled By NBC

When NRA lobbyist Tony Makris gunned down a defenseless elephant on his hunting show, outrage ensued. And now in a stunning show of spine, NBC has cancelled Under Wild Skies because of how Mr. Makris treated his critics. In response to the outrage against him, Makris played the Hitler card to describe those who opposed his disgusting slaying of an elephant and celebration with champagne afterward.

According to Dead Spin, an NBC spokesman made the following comment:

Under Wild Skies will no longer air on NBC Sports Network due to the program’s close association with its host, whose recent comments comparing his critics to Hitler are outrageous and unacceptable. NBCSN will continue to air all of our other quality outdoor programming.

Pulling the plug on this NRA-stained program is one of the best decisions the execs at NBC have ever made. Whether or not the elephant killing played a part in the decision is unknown but at least they acted after the show’s host went off the rails to call his critics Nazis. Undoubtedly, the NRA will lash out one way or another to NBC.

They’ll call it discrimination against gun enthusiasts, a violation of Second Amendment rights, a declaration of war by the liberal media and they’ll whine in an effort to spark a spike in donations. Because that’s really what the NRA is all about. It’s not about guns as much as it is about finding ways to make money, and the cancellation of this “hunting” show because of politically despicable comments from an NRA-backed host provides the NRA yet another excuse to beg for cash.

Regardless of how the NRA will react, NBC took a stand against invoking Hitler to describe one’s opponents and critics, and the network should be congratulated for doing so. It’s not everyday that a conservative is actually punished for saying such a thing and it happened this time. Perhaps if politicians would suffer consequences as well for such comparisons, our political discourse would be more cordial. Unfortunately, NBC can’t axe the Republican Party.

Obama Blasts Republicans as They Continue to Simply Make Absolutely No Sense

It’s apparent what President Obama’s strategy is when it comes to a possible government shutdown and, in the next few weeks, a possible first ever default on our credit—-it’s up to Republicans to actually do their jobs, because he’s not going to allow either to be used as political tools for blackmail.

And he’s absolutely right. I don’t care which side of the political spectrum you consider yourself a part of, President Obama is 100 percent correct on his stance in refusing to negotiate with Republicans.

Why the hell should he? The Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare”) isn’t a bill—it’s the law. He shouldn’t have to negotiate the funding of a law simply because Republicans see this as a last-ditch effort to try to get their way.

And he sure as hell shouldn’t allow them to use shutting down the government or defaulting on $17 trillion in debt as mechanisms to try to blackmail the President of the United States into getting something they want.

Obama simply, and directly, called out Republican propaganda by telling it exactly how it is:

“My message to Congress is this: Do not shut down the government. Do not shut down the economy. Pass a budget on time.”

A simple but clear message to this radical faction of the Republican party which almost seems eager to embrace a government shutdown which would devastate the lives of millions of Americans.

He went on to slam Republicans on their continued use of the debt ceiling vote as another tool in their blackmail scheme:

“I don’t know how I can be more clear about this: Nobody gets to threaten the full faith and credit of the United States just to extract political concessions.”

What Republicans simply don’t get is this — Obamacare isn’t up for negotiation. It’s the law. Period, end of story.

They can continue on with this rhetoric all they want, and they’ll end up being the party the vast majority of Americans blame for any negative events that follow. It sure won’t be Democrats or President Obama.

But the dumbest part about this whole thing is that none of it will work. So they shutdown the government for a few weeks — they’ll have to eventually approve funding. And when they do, guess what? Obamacare will get its funding.

Refuse to raise our debt ceiling and default on our debt? Go ahead. It’ll crash our economy, devastate our financial sector, and after that backlash begins to mount (and they eventually raise the debt ceiling), guess what? Obamacare will get its funding.

Because in both of these instances it isn’t Congress passing measures the president is refusing to sign — it’s a small block of Republicans in Congress causing all of these problems, and the majority of the American people are at least smart enough to see that much.

Sure, the radical right-wing Republicans absolutely love the thought of “sticking” it to President Obama by shutting down our government or defaulting on out debt—because they’re idiots. And I don’t say that with a partisan tone, they really are morons. These are the people that think shutting down our government is some defiant act against tyranny and think our debt ceiling is about new spending (it’s not).

These are also many of the same people that still believe Obamacare requires microchips, has death panels and is a government takeover of the health care industry.

Like I said, they’re idiots.

And these right-wing radicals are the ones the tea party Republicans in Congress are winning over as they threaten to ruin the lives of millions of Americans and sink our economy.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of Americans will put the blame solely on Republican antics. And at the end of the day, they will have accomplished nothing.

President Obama is not going to negotiate with Republicans on the funding of Obamacare—period. Ted Cruz can stand there till he’s blue in the face for all I care — at the end of the day, Obamacare will still be the law of the land and will end up being fully funded.

So if Republicans want to completely break our government and crash our economy, go right ahead. Because when push comes to shove, the blame from most Americans won’t be put on Democrats or President Obama — it’s going to rest solely with Congressional Republicans and their reckless radical antics.

I just hope Americans remember this next fall.

Bill Maher: California Does Better When Governed By A Democrat (VIDEO)

Bill Maher is getting back on all those that have been stumping on California’s past misfortune. In fact, a few months Texas governor Rick Perry went to California in an attempt to entice business to his “low tax” balanced budget state.

Maher notes that California has been a basket case,$27 billion in the red under Republican leadership. As Jerry Brown, a government loving Democrat came into power he did the fiscally responsible thing. He cut spending and raised taxes. Now California has a big budget surplus.

This is not surprising; Republicans have always loved cutting taxes on both the backs of the working middle class and at the expense of exploding budget deficits to appease their plutocratic masters. It was the modus operandi of papa Bush and son as well as the GOP Messiah Ronald Reagan.

The excerpts from Bill Maher’s new rule follow. He also wrote an amusing blog post on the same subject.

Tea Party Hero Allen West Fired After Alleged Anti-Semitic Slur

Poor Allen West. The former Republican congressman from Florida just can’t seem to keep a job.

According to BuzzFeed, West has left his job at Pajamas Media after an argument with a female staffer, during which he allegedly called her a “Jewish American princess.”

The BuzzFeed story says that West denied that he was fired, but he did not deny that an argument had taken place. When asked specifically if he had called the other employee a “Jewish American princess” West responded “There was an exchange, that’s all.”

West has a history of behavior similar to this alleged incident. In 2003 West, then a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel serving in Iraq, was investigated following accusations that he abused an Iraqi prisoner. CNN reported on the incident on December 13, 2003.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear skewers McConnell and Paul over Obamacare in NYT op-ed

My State Needs Obamacare. Now. That's the title of Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear's pugnacious NYT op-ed lambasting Washington Republicans, specifically his fellow Kentuckians Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, for trying to blow up the health care law.

Beshear begins by raising the disconnect between the partisan obstruction of Kentucky's dysfunctional duo in D.C. and the state's eager and steadfast implementation of Obamacare.

He points to the sad fact that Kentucky is among the sickest, most unhealthy states in the union and calls for "transformational change" to address that reality.

He credits the Medicaid expansion and Kynect health exchange for providing affordable coverage to more than 600,000 Kentuckians, creating 17,000 jobs, and saving the state $800 million.

Then the good governor delivers his blunt message to the turtle, his boss, and their fellow GOP extortionists:

As for naysayers, I’m offended by their partisan gamesmanship, as they continue to pour time, money and energy into overturning or defunding the Affordable Care Act. It’s shameful that these critics haven’t invested that same level of energy into trying to improve the health of our citizens.

They insist that the Affordable Care Act will never work — when in fact a similar approach put into effect in Massachusetts by Mitt Romney, then the governor, is working.

So, to those more worried about political power than Kentucky’s families, I say,“Get over it.”
...
Get over it ... and get out of the way so I can help my people. Here in Kentucky, we cannot afford to waste another day or another life.

Steve Beshear isn't the ideal dkos Democrat, but he is delivering for his people. And he knows how to take it to the Republicans.

Similarly, we need to elect Terry McAuliffe this November and Charlie Crist next November so they can push through Medicaid expansion in Virginia and Florida, respectively.

Also, Pinto Pony reminds me in the comments that the turtle faces a real challenge from Alison Lundergan Grimes, so help her out however you can!
