Mountain View at Elkhorn City is by far the best one. Anyone you take her to you have to go every single day to make sure she is being taken care of! They all have their good and bad sides. Good Luck and will keep you and her in my prayers.

Opinion is right. Wherever you place your mother, visit as often as you can and go at different times.
That way, they never know when to expect you, and if they're not doing their job taking proper care of your mother, it will be obvious. On days you cannot go, have another family member or a friend visit her if possible. Just don't let very much time pass without someone checking on her. God bless you and your mother. I hope you find the best place for her and that all goes well.

Recent visit to see my Uncle at Parkview....The entry way into 3rd floor smells so strong of urine it almost smells like syrup...although must say housekeeping seemed to be hard workers and...some little woman bless her heart came into his room several times wanting to know where her room was...and one pt. yelling for a nurse because know one would answer her light...I went and told nurse myself and she said they just did not have enough help but for me not to say she told me or they would try to fire her...and I myself witness that some that do direct care needed to be cleaner themselves...

If it is drivable for you then I would highly recommend J J Jordan at Louisa Ky.The patients are treated very well and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

So much goes on in these Nursing Homes....why can't they put video cameras in their rooms and monitor our love ones...we have to fight for better care for our disabled and elderly...We may be there someday

You can check at the Courthouse how many lawsuits there are and what are the complaints in them. It is a matter of public record. You can also check the other nursing homes as well. Parkview seems to have numerous (seems to be in excess of 15) open lawsuits while Elkhorn and Signature don't have near that many. Either which one you chose, you would still need to visit every day and keep an eye out on things such as proper medication. One of the lawsuits allege nurses overmedicate so the residents sleep most of the time and a couple of citations through the state say that nurses were taking the narcotics and giving something different to the residents not expecting anyone to find out.

My job takes me in nursing homes all over the state and even some out of state...pretty much all day every day. Of all I have worked with Parkview is by far the worst... surprisingly though letcher manner in whitesburg is probably the best I've worked with... if that isn't too far out of your way I would definitely at least check it out. Take a day and visit a few and you will quickly see the difference in the ones you visit.

The first impression is when you first go in...right in front of main entrance employee's smoking and does it stink...and the other person is right...3rd floor entry smells like pee...My uncle says no one ever comes to him when he calls out...and the rumors from other employees of what goes on there is out of this world...Are our nursing homes safe?

I wouldn't advise anyone to put there family in parkview..I hear the one in Elkhorn is the best place.

because that violates a persons right to privacy! would you feel comfortable being under camera 24 hours a day?

You must work for a Nursing Home...The patients in most of them esp. Parkview has no rights...I think it comes from some of the employee's who is afraid of getting caught not doing their job or being mean to patient's...It happens all the times...The only thing would be for a family member or if the pt. is coherent and oriented is to give permission...How would you feel if you were unable to move and needed a nurse..just feel our elderly and disabled deserve better care..prisoners get better treatment...

Good Shepherd at Phelps is by far the best NH is Pike co. Due to my work, I am in nursing homes all over the region and Phelps gets my vote as one of the best.
