I thought the county was $3 million in the red?

Crash and burn, we picked up on that, too. While the thousand dollar raise won't make a difference considering the cuts to the fire departments, one would think with the number of house fires in our areas recently that would be the last budget cut. We also noticed that none of the executive assistants to the Judge had cuts listed AND if there is a $3 million deficit, maybe the $2.1 million they spent to build a road around Fishtrap could have been spent more wisely?!? Especially since the dirt road carved out of the hills and a few trees being knocked down don't seem to be $2 million dollars worth.

I think an audit of the finances and payments to whom and how much is warranted for the projects like road construction, building construction, etc. I am curious to know if there are any relationships between the contractors and the Fiscal Court members as well. They want to blame coal severance tax money for this problem when I don't think it all rests on Obama and Federal EPA. Most, yes, but not all.

Wayne T. and his croonies there have known since getting into office that the coal severance tax money was headed in a downward spiral. One would think that they would have taken measures to not have to rely on money they knew had potential to not be available.

In speaking with the common folks of Pike County, you can hear of how the county offices flaunt the fact they waste money. Deputies leave their vehicles running while stopped off at law offices for quick errands, taking clerks to lunch in company sheriff cars, more than one attorney on the fiscal court staff when it isn't clear what position Roland Case or John Doug Hayes holds, and the county road workers don't seem to be too interested in saving the county $ either with all the running up and down roads to and from job sites when car/truck pooling could be beneficial.

Just throwing some thoughts out here because here is the only place that anyone will actually care enough to comment. Seems that there is nothing that will stop Wayne T.'s train even if we complain.

I agree with Curious.I have long stated that someone needs to do an independent audit to find out if there is any connection between the contractors or landowners for the construction projects around here and our elected officials. Our officials seem to think it is ok to pay millions of dollars out to build new buildings that we really don't need. That money could be spent in much better ways. And after spending millions on these projects these new buildings for some reason aren't sufficient after only a few years and then the officials decide to spend more millions to build new buildings to replace the new buildings that aren't sufficient after only a few years of being built.Take for instance the new library. For what little use it gets the library in town is more than sufficient to serve the needs of the public.Yet the officials have decided to spend millions building a 4 story library in a location that will be less than efficient for the few that use the old library now.My guess is that PMC or U-Pike will end up occupying that space in a few years and we will then need to build another library. The new court house in town is another example.I know it has been a few years but I do remember them putting millions into the restoration of the old court house in town to make it more sufficient to fill the needs of this town.So now our officials decided to spend millions building the new court house and destroy a quarter of the downtown area in order to do so.I can't wait for it to open and I hope the public is allowed to take a tour to see how extravagantly it is furnished and what the officials offices will look like. They also spent a ton of money to research the effectiveness of the location of the current post office behind Wal-Mart.After deciding that would make a perfect location they spent millions building that post office but now only a few short years later they are going to tear it down and relocate it.I wonder who will own the property of the new location for the new post office.I also wonder why it is that when these new projects are built that it is never a local company or workers who get the jobs.Hiring local companies and workers would benefit this area much more especially now that the coal industry is in a decline.

Today's newspaper is another example of what exactly Wayne T's croonies do. I have learned that executive assistant's primary job duty is to accept responsibility for the old man's mishaps. While looking into the Fishtrap road ordeal, Roland Case made the comment to "blame" him instead of Wayne T. or Summitt Engineering for the property owners not getting notification. Today's newspaper has Brandon Roberts accepting responsibility for a recent misunderstanding with Wayne T. and Mr. Bowling.

Lets put behind us the idea of spending the total cuts Wayne Rutherford has proposed is $522,000 plus or minus a few thousand, and he gets a raise... ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Wayne T. said we are at a 3.2 million dollar shortfall for the fiscal year. There is one way to raise money if you can't cut enough to cover the shortfall is by Taxation. We all know he isn't afraid of taxing the people of this county. First way we can save money is by running him out of office on that broken down train he is so damn proud of.

Wayne T. would stand up to a lion in its cave for the people of Pike County! I, for one, am glad the Old Man fights for us. We are lucky to have him and some of the imbeciles that other counties have. Count me in on the train!

How few actually understand what has been going on to help bring about the County's budget crisis?

If anyone is interested in actually knowing and being capable of discussing the issue intelligently, he needs only research the unfair division of available monies between the little town of Pikeville as opposed to Pike, the LARGEST County in the state.

Does anyone recall the episode involving Senator Ray S. Jones and Magistrate Harris over the dispensation of available funds from state legislators?("We have the best crooks in Kentucky") was as true a statement then as now.

I honestly couldn't have said it better. Wayne hired another executive assistant too conveniently right before the election. I hope you do an audit or open records request!

He just wants the county employment tax to pass but not under his name. Remember how he blamed someone else when everyone got upset over that one? "I'm going to tax the county to cover my Toyota and my gas to run around"

I don't personally know the man, nor do I know of his sexual escapades.

I'll let you tell us how you know about the
"DEPTH" your senator can go. Apparently you have personal experience with that usually private information.

Nor do you know the facts. But that doesn't stop you from spewing out false information.
