The best advice I can give you is that if you want to organize, you need to have one clear message.....something that needs to be changed and your suggestion of changing it. The mistake that many of these home grown groups are making is that nobody knows what exactly they want. For example, the truckers that were mad as hell, or sick of the BS..........sure, but our legislators can't write a law to make us "not mad as hell no more". You have to have a problem, one clear fixable problem, and the remedy you are proposing. That is what the activists and lobbyists do, and they get things done.
Amanda......our problem here is that we just don't have ONE issue, Pike County has MANY issues, that's why we are SICK and TIRED of what's going on around us and it's time for a change. The politicians have had YEARS to make that change and since they don't seem to worry about the issues at hand, then it's up to the VOTERS to solve it for them by voting them out and getting someone who will listen and do the job that should've been done YEARS ago. It's not just the Politicians fault here, the people of the county has to take some responsibility in not speaking up before now. We knew the officials were not doing what they've promised for YEARS they would do for us but guess it took everyone getting past the point of FRUSTRATION to start doing something about it. I feel the people are ready to stand UNITED and hold our elected officials accountable and help them KEEP their PROMISES during their campaign trail well into their term if they get elected. So we are not looking at creating any new legislatures, laws, or policies....WE just want our Politicians to get this COUNTY back to a working / productive society like it used to be. So we don't have the coal mine industry anymore, well, they knew it was coming, it just didn't end overnight, they could've looked ahead and prepared for other industries to come in here but since it didn't take any money out of their pocket they just laid dormant. So with that said, this forum to not only let the citizens speak their suggestions and ideas, but also to give support to one another that we have each others back and will stand together and make a difference.

Non coal jobs for an area that is losing our coal economy.

No new taxes!

No Fire department Fee's on our property taxes.

We need to get all the tax increases back on the ballot, be able to vote on these tax increases instead of a bunch of fat cat politicking in and voting to tax us every year. A referendum on the ballot for levies or tax increases the people get to vote on. The Pike County Board of Education, the Library Board, Fiscal Court can just go in on a whim and vote taxes on us and we have no say in the matter.
