Pikeville Independent has the WORST managed athletic dept in the county..Sammy D....who in no way is a teacher or otherwise is a coach and an egotisitical jerk who only cares about a win, and not the kids..as parents we were LIED to by Mr. G..who is suppose to be athletic director..A-team..B-team crap..if u don't write big enough checks..guess what???your kid doesn't play, no matter how talented they are..

It's the same way in all schools; city or county, doesn't matter. And parents usually see a lot more talent in their own kids than anyone else does. Human nature.

i agree about sammy d. he has always been that way. he gets involved in everything but cant do anything. the athletic dept needs revamped. football, soccer, b-ball. it is a shame that with the athletes pikeville has they cannot get them to play because of who is involved.

Not that it would do any good, but I was thinkin of calling the Board and asking for a review of the sports operations. It's completely ridiculous, when the JR high team was put together it was divided into an A team and B team. We were told that NO A team members would be playing B team games and vice versa..so, out very first B team game what happens>??? Because Sammy Hamilton is an egotistical "all about me" coach he put let A team players start the game, and this was just after the A team had played and won...how does this make B team players feel?? Garris assures us this was not going to happen, but it did. And in addition to that, they expect all parents to solicit donations and work the concession stand..forget that. I have never claimed that my child was the most talented, but if he is going to work as hard at pratice, etc..he deserves the same opportunity during B team games.

I agree Pikeville Jr High Baseball, and basketball is a JOKE. It is who has the most money not if your child wants to play or has talent to play.

Trust me this is never gonna change. the entire baseball program at PHS is all the same. Wait until you play High School baseball and have to deal with that coach, all I can say is better start kissing a** now because he also has a son on Jr. High team that will play High School even if he does not have the talent, that is what happened with his older son. The school system really does not care. They play the blame game down there. The younger son does seem to have more talent than the older one though. Still it is not fun to have your child cursed by a druken coach that is pissed off that he has to come to practice when he would rather be at the OTB having another beer after his bus run!!! This is very true and the school system knows about it but still nothing gets done. So I guess it's fine to take a few kids home after school on the bus pull your bus off at the OTB catch about 4-5 beer and then go to baseball practice and be mean to the players, Oh and get paid to do this. This entire system is a joke. That is some pretty fine Christian people running this program don't you think.

I remember PHS baseball from the late 90's. They were good because they played very well organized baseball from age 5 and on up. PHS youth baseball has saddly taken a turn for the worse. It started when D. Mullins and others from the county couldn't stand it that PHS little league wouldn't had area boundaries and actually there sons should have played at Johns Creek. So what did they do? They changed the rules and the charter. Now the July nights are not lit up with great little league area tournaments from teams all around. It took away the area competition and the fun. Now the "Pikeville Cal Ripkin League" Allstars advance right on to state and there is no area competition. But Mr. Mullins and Eugene and those cronies got what they wanted. Thus crippling Pikeville Little League and area competition. Has anyone seen those how crappy those fields look? Doesn't anyone remember how much fun L.L. Allstars used to be?
I love the current PHS baseball coach as a person. However, he is incapable of teaching the fundamentals of the game and he does a poor job managing the team. I hope things change soon. Pikeville needs a high school coach who will revive baseball in this town from the youth sports up. We need a passionate firey young coach. I know a few and Garris does too. There may be problems getting those guys though.

u are so right, but as long as we have parents on the school board who's kids are gonna play, other kids dont stand a chance. This year/season was horrible..there was zero communication with the parents, and the same kids played every game, but all kids were expected to work equally as hard..and all parents were expected to work the concessions stand..i dont think so..I really wish something would change that would truly benefit all kids interested in playing..

doesnt have a dam thing to do with talent...i can assure you, unless you were a parent( such as myself) and witnessed pratices, etc u have NO right to comment. The whole prgram was unfairly ran by an egomaniac, it wasn't unfair to my kid, it was ALL kids with the exception of a few...next time u want to comment, have some experience with the subject u moron.

quit being jealous that all the other children play better ball than your child. maybe if you would take away the World of Warcraft they would increase their beneficial skill set!

what ever happened to the kids having fun playing sports?
Thats why kids are lazy and play world of warcraft nowadays is because how fun is it to go play a baseball game and have drunk parents yell at you if you mess up...
I played baseball for 6 years and one day I slipped up and got yelled at by someone I didnt even know and just said im done with it.

i have been involved in pikeville sports for almost 12 years from one child to another. the politics is so apparent from b-ball to baseball.
soccer has become that way with joe dan and hagen coaching, bart is a great guy but cannot manage his teams from jr high to high school. baseball coach can't keep his hands off the women in order to coach. my children have the talent and will not play because of the coaches.

it is obvious you play for sammy. just because someone is cut does not mean he isn't any good. michael jordan never played high school. so don't get the big head because you do play
