I know that not all people abuse it and none of it goes far regardless if it's purchased with EBT or cash. I have a 2 member household and I swear, we average about $500.00 per month on groceries alone. And it seems like we actually get less and less for more and more money each time I grocery shop.

I fully agree with BOTH of your Posts. EBT benefits are for people that need/deserve them and meet the required criteria and I have nothing against people like that or yourself if this is the case and I've no reason to doubt you. Unfortunately though there is a massive number of people defrauding the program and worse, using it to fuel their drug addictions or acquiring undeserved cash for them, both of which are clearly abuses of the program.
Will you please post a link to the data backing your claim of "a massive number of people defrauding the program and worse"?

I don't really place a lot of faith in Polls and "Surveys" myself because one will say one thing and another will say another based on the political bias of the agency administering it to begin with. It's common sense and not necessarily substantiated by numerical documentation but everyone is aware that Human Nature alone will encompass and allow for a certain amount of fraud no matter what. Then you can always check local/national news sources that report on the rampant fraud

Thanks for the polite reply, but one of your links is bad, the other link works fine and says that fraud is less than 1%. Thats one of the lowest among federal programs even the irs.
I dont see how that supports your "massive" claim, but i do appreciate your reply.

All the years I have worked and salved to earn a good pay check to take care of my families need and not once did I ever complain about people getting welfare.

I know some abuse the system but many abuse some kind of system or another. Now its not right but you will always have a few bad apples.

I personally do not care that my tax dollars have went to aid those that really need a little help to get by on. Love is the first fruit and lets face it more and more people have became hard, selfish and greedy.

A very nice response and I totally agree. After years of working and going through feast and famine times, I've been fortunate never to have had the need for any public assistance but do not begrudge those who do. "There but for fortune go you and me." Government bureaus who administer these funds have always said there is little abuse of these programs in response to those who always want to test, or qualify or withhold rights of those who do need them. Why so little abuse? Because those on public assistance really need it. There is no incentive to partake of these programs unless you are desperate....it is a very meager existance. Any trading or bargaining that may go on may be a necessary evil to make ends meet and would stop if these folks had jobs or the ability to support themselves. The average food stamp recipient receives $1.49 per day for sustenance; hardly an incentive to commit fraud.

More and more I keep coming to the personal feeling that if you don't work , you don't eat. If you don't eat you starve to death. If you starve to death you are dead and no longer a problem to society. I simply don't care if you live or die. Get a job and get the he'll out of my pocket. Any a$$hole who won't work or move to find work doesn't deserve to take up space. Any a$$hole with kids who can't support them should have them taken away and adopted by someone who will. Snuff said !

there are other jobs besides coal mining and working in the auto industry. Go out West and work for the oil and gas industry. Go work where there is work. Don't sit here in Eastern Ky waiting for a government check. MOVE. There is NO future here for anyone without an advanced degree or Professional position. I hate the gov't and especially the current gov't more than most of you on here. Obama has killed our only real livelihood but you idiots fall at the bastard's feet begging fir crumbs. Grow a pair. Way too many people around here have too much sentiment for these worn out mountains. You are like children clinging to mommy's apron strings. YOU and you alone are responsible for your success and well being not the gov't and certainly not the Antichrist in the oval office. F that bastard Don't look to him or his minions to take care of you. He screwed you. Hate him for it if you want. It's up to YOU to move on or sit around and bitch.

I agree and at the same time, disagree.
I guess its a little harder for a man with a family and a home to pay for, etc, to just up and leave.
The younger men, I would def agree they should go.
I wish I had years ago.
You are right, there are jobs out of this area. which angers me, because some of those types of jobs could be brought here, but what do we get?
Another call in center. We, Appalachia, are given the shitty crumb leftover.
It is also hard to think about going from earning 24 plus dollars an hour, to earning less than 9.
that is a third of a persons income gone.
I will say though that if I were a young man with no real hold, or even if I had young children, I would go.
Leave wife and kids at home for a few months, while you earn the money to set up a home.
Our ancestors did it. Alot of them came home, and alot didnt.

1 percent of 15 million people is a lot of fraud. I don't believe the 1 percent figure any more than I believe the governments unemployment figures of around 7 percent. It's really closer to 15 percent and most experts agree. I know one thing; grocery carts piled high with case after case of soft drinks are a common sight at Food City the first of every month and people offering to sell me their food stamps for 50 cents on the dollar has happened to me more than once. ANY fraud is money out of the working mans pocket and excusing it by saying it's only a tiny amount is inexcusable.

Just like the Bible says you take care of yourself, your own families, then if you have more give your ten percent to the church. The church is the responsible party for the public.

I have never looked toward any man, woman, company nor government to take care of me and mine but they sure take from us for their own don't they. Sure mining isn't the only jobs but a person should not have to leave their homes and families to make a living when we made a good one before the government screwed us over.

When approached to defraud the system turn them in. That is getting rid of those that abuse the system.

True you should not have to. But its already happened. That Antichrist in the oval office said from the beginning that he would bankrupt the coal industry and he has. His EPA has just ADMITTED that their newest regs that killed the coal industry will NOT have any effect of reducing global warming at all. Of course it wont because" global warming" is a crock. Yet the EPA still is blaming it on what they said is coal fired power plants. HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE? VOTE REPUBLICAN IN 2014.....its our only hope at over riding the Antichtist's agenda
