My wife spent overnight there (PMC) a few years ago. She was transported within 14 hrs. to a Lexington hospital where she spent 17 days.

PMC charged HALF as much for 14 hours as the hospital in Lex. charged for 17 days!

Then consider that the Grand Pubah Walter May and wife have gone to another hospital when they need treatment.

You have hit upon the real problem of health care--the cost. Contrary to what the media says, the United States has the best health care in world. It just is expensive. One major problem with Obamacare is that is does nothing to lower costs. In fact, medical costs will rise with Obamacare. The irony of why medical costs are so high is because of insurance. Now, I am not suggesting we get rid of insurance. I would not want insurance companies going out of business. We will always need insurance. But hospitals know that insurance will cover most of the cost so they raise the cost of medical treatment. How can we lower medical costs? I don't suggest the government forcing them to lower prices. I am opposed of the government forcing themselves on companies and people. If the hospitals were forced to lower their costs, they would lower the employees saleries. They would make it back somehow. And I don't think the government should dictate how much a compnay pays their employees. That causes serious problems like layoffs. The best way is competition. There is no true competition between hospitals. In smaller to medium-sized towns, there is usually just one hospital. Even in larger cities that have many hospitals, there is really no competition between them. Many hospitals are non-profit. I say forget non-profit--go ahead and make as much money as you can. What would happen though, is that hospitals would then hire the best doctors they could and offer medical procedures at lower prices. This would work. Why does Wal-Mart offer lower prices? Is it out of the kindness in their hearts? No, they know if they didn't offer lower prices, the consumer would go somewhere else. But with hospitals, you don't usually have that choice. But what if you did? What if you could easily choose the hospital of your choice? Of course in an emergency, you would not have a choice, but for most anytthing else, you do. I know not all hospitals offer all medical services. This is apparent in small towns. But, within a medical competitive market, it would be possible. Even small hospitals could make profits and offer more services only found in larger cities. What if there were more smaller clinics for less serious medical needs? There are clinics now, but most are understaffed and offer medicore medical treatments. But in a competitive market, they too would be able to hire better doctors and offer better services.

I know this sounds easier than it really is. But it can be done. Hospitals need to move toward a more competitive model. It would be better for them and would be better for our country.

Please tellme ??/
I , first see it as a JOKE (TOTALLY A JOKE)
How in the world can PMC false advertise the signs and on the local media claiming to be number 1 in the U.S
Even Waldo himself won't even go to his own hospital.
But yet, He wuill proudly FALSELY LIE and claim thta PMC is number one in the country(USA)
How do they get away with suck l;ies?
YEa claming to be ahead of Joh Hopkins, Mayo CLinics< Duke University just to name a few!!!

How does he publicly tell such big lies and get away with it??
Surely noo one around town actually believes the false lies??
Just wondering how doe WALDO get away with claming to be number ONE in the USA??
Please inform me of such flase lies as that>?
How is it even legal to do as anyone in the right mind knows they are not above the Duke's, and Mayo's and other elite hospitals!!!!!!(SURELY)

How do they get away with such advertisements?

They are number one in taking care of patients and visitors while they are there. They are not number one in everyting. If you will read what it says. It is not the doctors it is how you are treated. Which I am not saying they do not have good drs. they have a lot of great drs. And it will get better with all that they have now. I know when I have been in there they always go overboard to see you are taking care of really nice nurses and staff. People in this area should be proud of the progress they are making instead of downing . be proud of what we have here in Pike County

This has been going on for many many many years and getting worse since they are trying to be a number 1 hospital. Which anyone who has ever been treated there or live in the area know that it will never be. They think if they make the hospital the size of lexington that it means they are as good as them this is a joke. Plus they need the money to pay for all the expanding they are doing.

We do need to appreciate what we have available in medical care. Perhaps the high prices are to cover for all the people who never pay their medical bills?
The hospital can charge what they want; but insurance will only approve payment for a portion of that amount. The extra cost has to be paid by those that do pay their medical bills.
why because they can

Because the marketing strategy is prestige pricing. it is that simple. everything about this unethical hospital's strategy is the same way, employment, pricing, ect.
The employees except for the administration has had no raise or compensation adjustment in the last 5-6 years, they have some of the most outdated equipment some which would fall apart if now for the medical tape holding it together. many of the PC in the building are still running XP, with a select few running Windows Me.
