Well, well looks like the city is about to get into our pockets "Again" guaranteed to increase the frustration level with out of town shoppers and people that have to come into the county seat to do their business. All the projects and spending must be catching up with the once fully funded city coffers.
Why would the Mayor" or is it the city manager" want to put parking meters back into Pikeville? They were taken out to increase business to the so called business district, why go back to meters. Is it because there is no business in Pikeville but ambulance chasing lawyers? The taxes have drove almost all the old business out of town. Guess what! The parking meters will be a big flop after all these years with no meters. I don't go to Pikeville now unless it is just for banking or the court house, Will be moving business to the branch banks and do what court house business I can at the satellites.

I hope ole Cool Hand Luke comes to town and takes care of your meters for you! Money grubbing nickel and diming bunch of tax, fee and fine fools. Pikeville is becoming a real shithole!

You would think they would make more money with the $20 tickets that are handed out for exceeding your parking limit. But t...hen, if people don't pay the fines....guess they need meters??

The problem with the $20 tickets is that they are not given out to everyone. There are certain people in town that don't have to worry about receiving tickets. I have personally watched as they chalk tires on vehicles on Division St., and will skip certain vehicles. I then watched as they returned to ticket the ones that had not moved. Guess what! The vehicles that belonged to the common person got a ticket. The vehicles that belonged to the "special" / politically important persons were still in the same spots as well. They received nothing!! If "The City" is going to enforce parking, it should and must be enforced for all. Regardless of how much growth happens, if the special treatment of the politically elite doesn't change, the growth will be for nothing!! Growth sold as and paid for by all, yet continuing special favors and treatment to the few, will do nothing but continue the negative perceptions that already excist!

Them greedy corrupt fools are gonna win by a landslide. It never fails to get negative publicity just before the election and then be the hero. All they have to do is minor and they look good again. Then all is forgotten by that time. Then we spend another term with there bs. All talk and no action. They've got voters trained and campaigning down to an art form. They know what we are gonna do before we do it.

LOL you think the city needs more money maybe you should do alittle research check the city's Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFRs) closely you may be surprised to learn just what the city really does have off the public books of course but everyone knows that money is for friends and family to get contracts with our fine city. they are far from broke just looking for more ways to store up vast amounts of cash is all.

The meters are the result of a failed economic stimulus policy for downtown Pikeville. We had meters in Pikeville for years and the city decided to take them out to stimulate downtown business and growth. However since the meters have been taken out the taxes have run about all of the shops and business out of Pikeville.

How can you have any shops downtown when most of the rental space is occupied by lawyers? The city should have designated law offices to second floors years ago. They could have maintained downtown as a shopping/tourist location. The parking garage offers space to park; but apparently no one wants to park there and walk; including the people that work downtown.

Walking a few blocks wouldn't hurt any of us.

Yep all the stores, shops, retail stores taxed out and then the ambulance chasers moved in at a lower rate! Down Town Pikeville was once a busy place on a Saturday, now it is a ghost town. Put the meters in, who gives a crap!

I doubt that there will be meters installed downtown. It will get closer to election time and as a another poster suggested someone will be your hero. Jimmy Carter will probably heavily object to the meters and they will suddenly reconsider. He will be your hero and then you will vote him in as mayor. Does that sound likely?

Ditto! I agree with the poster who says this meter crap was all made up to eventually make poor ol Jimmy Carter look like a hero. Little Frankie is as transparent as a broken out window glass. Sad thing is.....Pikeville voters fall for his obvious BS. "Obvious" that is to more intelligent people. Trouble is intelligent people won't live in that POS little town.

Park for free in the parking garage! Can't figure out why people won't park in there - too lazy to walk 500 more feet or scared of the dark???
