Indeed he did, LOL!

I had just discovered this band awhile back and begun getting into their music when the singer David Gold was killed in a car crash 2011. This song is like a really spooky foreshadowing of his death for it occurred not long after this was released...

BTW MC (and I may have asked you before) but have you heard the 2 lps they have done since Layne's demise: Black Gives Way To Blue and the recent The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here? Man, they are killer and to be honest, it is hard to notice that Layne's gone if you can believe it or not. They have been able to hold onto and continue their traditional sound/style much in the same way that Thin Lizzy/Black Star Riders have..which is rare for most bands once they lose an integral member like their vocalist. But let's not forget that original AIC bassist Mike Starr died in 2011 although he had left the band in 1993 which makes this song even more poignant:

Yes I agree!

If any band ever survived the death of their singer any better than AiC, I haven't heard of it.

Even the Jerry Cantrell solo records sound a bit like AiC.

Alice In Chains is one of the best bands ever!!!!

To answer your question: yes, I've heard the later AiC, sans Staley, and they're awesome of course!

Yeah, I have both of Jerry Cantrell's solo albums "Boggy Depot" and "Degradation Trip". In fact, my version of the second one is a special edition 2 cd set. Anyway, if we're going to get into Southern Rock with dead members then here's one of the best..and no it is not the obvious Lynyrd Skynyrd, heh. This South Carolina group has been around for over 40 years and has lost several members like Tommy Caldwell and Stuart Swanlund. Here is the very first opening track from their debut album
released in 1973:

We have mentioned the late great Guitar God Diamond/Dimebag Darrel of Pantera on this thread before but I think we failed to spotlight his Post-Pantera band that he and his drumming brother Vinnie Paul formed after the Pantera split. I actually saw them live in this band too and it's a shame that no one could do this for Darrel that awful night in Ohio:

They're SO awesome!

I've loved them every step of the way, even saw them in Spartanburg.

Is Toy Caldwell the only brother left?

As far as I know he is. They are scheduled to release the live album "Live! From Spartanburg, South Carolina" sometime this year so if you saw a recent show of theirs there then it's likely to be the one recorded for this release. Rebel Meets Rebel is an
awesome lp and one I still jam regularly. A lot of people don't realize that Dimebag made regular appearances on some of the Anthrax lps during the John Bush era. For instance, he plays the leads on this track from Stomp 442:

You're a much bigger Anthrax fan than myself, so I'll ask:

Is John Bush the replacement singer?

They've had a few good songs though

Armored Saint vocalist John Bush joined Anthrax in the early 90s as the replacement for then departed vocalist Joey Belladonna who was the voice for so many classic Anthrax lps like Spreading The Disease, Among The Living, and State of Euphoria among others. In my opinion though Anthrax was much better off during the John Bush era because they created such awesome lps like Sound Of White Noise, Stomp 442, and We've Come For You All to name a few. Plagued by varying problems over the years ranging from a studio fire that destroyed much of Anthrax's equipment, to the 9/11 attack fueling a push for them to change their name, and other incidents, Bush eventually left too. This allowed for the return of Joey Belldonna and has resulted in one of the BEST Anthrax albums yet: Worship Music. In fact, here is a track from said album titled "In The End" which fits this thread due it's being an admitted homage to Ronnie James Dio R.I.P.

One of America's most versatile Power Metal bands and lengthy mainstays: Savatage. Begun by the Oliva brothers Jon (vocals) and Criss (guitars) they made many killer albums and although Criss Oliva was killed by a drunk driver in 1993, have persevered with varying member changes.
