This is why there is a decline in the coal business ..... things going natural gas, nuclear power (nuclear is making a comeback), and to other forms of technology.

Old Dominion just built a brand new plant at Virginia City just outside St.Paul Va.....You will NEVER see one speck of smoke coming from it. You could tie Obama directly on top of the stack and he would breathe easily with No bad effects if you left the useless little dictator up there for the remainder of his term. In fact ,I suggest that would be a fine idea. Give him a megaphone and let him spout his continuous campaign rhetoric from the top of the stack for the next couple years.

But look at the number of 'gas' power-plants built right now. It doesn't include ones that are planned.

Btw, you cannot do a post without yelling Obama, huh? You do know there were 23,000 lost mining jobs 'before' Obama took office, don't you? How do you explain them? And the fact those jobs started being lost in sync with the rise of natural gas.

Btw, my list of closures most likely is not a complete list. There may be more not on it.

The 23,000 lost mining jobs 'before' Obama took office were losses in mining jobs in Kentucky since the 1980's.

The coal business goes up and the coal business goes down...its always been that way but now with your sainted Obama in charge its just going down and will NEVER go back up ...that's one reason I keep "yelling" as you say about OBAMA;the WORST President in history....

I do not agree with Obama on coal because coal and natrual gas has the same DNA they both produce CO2 gas. The technology to reduce the CO2 is there but it's going to take both party's to give the power companies incentives to use the technology because of the cost of converting.

I must desagree. George W. Bush was the worst president .When he left office the country was on the verg of a depression and sent 4,486 U.S troops to their death in Iraq for Dick Cheney and his halliburton contracts.

I disagree. Coal isn't going to make a comeback like it has before. It will to a small degree someday return but not be even near what it was.

I'm basing this not only upon the 175 coal power-plant closures that I could find, but even more so on the huge number of 'gas' power plants that are right now in existence (and more are under plans to be built.

Check out this list. You don't have to read them, only slowly scroll down through the list (all three pages of them) to see just how many there are. The list on the below link is only gas plants operating 'now', not planned ones .....

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/pikeville-ky/...

The coal business is not making a return to what it was.

The decline in coal isn't caused by Obama, any Democrat, or any Republican ..... it's caused by changing times. And it's been occurring over the last three decades leading up to this point. The surge in the number of gas power-plants starting in the 1990's only sped the decline up.

Bush wasn't great, but, he was handed a peak economy headed toward bust because of the Clinton administration propping up of the housing market. The war was horrible, but we as Americans wanted heads to roll after 9/11.

Pure liberal Democrat talking points. Hell Hillary Clinton voted to go to war. The worst thing Bush did was start the great BAILOUTS.. Like a liberal Socialist Democrat he wanted to manipulate the economy rather than let free enterprise capitalism straighten out the mess. IMPORTANT: Some of you dummies need to learn that in a capitalistic society which we have ALWAYS been somebody makes money and somebody else loses. Trying to make sure nobody loses is IDIOTIC...Its chasing UTOPIA which can't exist.

CO2 gas is carbon dioxide which trees need to live. Trees give off oxygen which WE need to live . CO2 is NOT poison...It does NOT contribute to global warming or "climate change" WAKE UP people man CANNOT control the weather. There is as much "scientific" evidence to DISPROVE "Climate change" as there is bogus "scientific evidence" to try and prove there is....Its already been agreed by the entire "scientific community that if the U.S. never burned another lump of coal it wouldn't reduce their so called "climate change " one tiny bit...

As the power plants start closing Jan 1, 2015, the demand for coal will drop, as the demand for stream coal drops so will the price. The price per ton will fall below what the Eastern Ky. Coal market can mine it for. May be a little Met coal for awhile but coal for power generation will be mine somewhere else besides Eastern Ky. Look the man's list and weep, it's over.
